I think Gears 6 should be a 8-10hr game.

I'm 100% game for that. Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart and Deathloop both took me around 10 hours each and it was the perfect length for both. Not a fan of much longer games at all these days.

8-10 hour camping, add some element that gives replay value. Go back to the grim setting that gears 1 had and ditch the open map what gears 5 had.

And keep execution playmode active at all times along with koth.

it should or could've been an actual flagship franchise for microsoft. first 3 games are amazing. gears 6 should aim for a minimum 90+ score and should aim to be a goty contender. or i will be hugely disappointed. i dont care if its 8 hrs 15 hors or 25 hrs

gow 4 and 5... they're okay games, but they can't even be considered any kind of goty contender

I definitely don't want open world gears of war!

I want big set pieces and corridor sections leading to more big set pieces!

The game should only be as long as it needs to be to tell its central story and to ensure an enjoyable experience. If you can't handle a game being a certain length, steer clear. Just play to your enjoyment.

The bare minimum for games in general should be 8 or 9 hours.

I miss that feeling of playing 1 game for an entire day and then feeling accomplished after finishing it and the story.

Disappointment struck me when I played Crysis 2 in 2011. I literally finished it in 4-5 hours and it wasn't even mid-day. First time I played Crysis 1 it took me 8 hours.

Gears 5 is sitting a an 84 metacritic. I enjoyed it, but I dont think it needs to be so ambitious, now that Xbox has other devs making huge games.
Im not saying quality and innovation should be less infact it should take bigger risks.
Having about half of the coalition work on the game for 2yrs.
I think its better then having a 15-20hr game every 3-4 yrs, for this style of game.

As Kena is demonstrating not every game has to be so huge.

Edit:
For fuck sake
Kenya is short?

I don't think that length is the problem so much as depth, Gears used to be the top of the very top of its genre, in gameplay AND graphics.

Whatever it was that gave the games their depth should be rediscovered by the team that does these games now.

This is something i've been thinking about.

With Gamepass, I think it makes sense to make predominantly single-player games episodic. This would hopefully allow for developers to have more focus in the games and not have to think of filler sections.

Gears could release new 4-6 hour episodes every two months to give people time to play each one. For those not sold on GamePass, there would be a different pricing model.

(All this is thoughts i've had with no real understanding of the development process for games so might actually not be feasable at all haha)

I think single player campaigns should be around 10-15 hours max. 8 hours is probably too short for an AAA title, but I am dead set against 30-40 hour campaigns like TLOU2 and GOW.

Insomniac with their 10-15 hour campaigns with side quests have it right.

I do think Gears needs a massive reboot. I liked 5 more than 4, but man it still feels like Gears 2006. They need to overhaul it like Sony did GOW. Camera shift maybe. Make it first person. Focus on weapons, AI, abilities and destruciton. Do what Gears did for the Xbox 360 back in 2006. Really truly innovate instead of just copying and pasting the same formulaic game that was dated in the late 2000s.

The last fucking thing they should do is turn one of the few 3rd person games they have into another FPS, you kiddin' me?

you have literally had gotten 6 third person gears games in the last 15 years. is that not enough?

let them change things. god of war changed the perspective to over the shoulder and reinvigorated the franchise. mario has done this several times. it's ok to change things up every now and then.

gears doesnt have to be another mindless and soulless fps. they can be better.

Leave the FPS's to id and 343

it should be a walking simulator, enough with all the gore and violence already.
Yep, more of the excruciatingly slow and boring walking simulator parts of Gears 5 is needed in the next Gears. While they are at it, they need more of the boring as f@!k driving/land sailing simulator parts to help kill the Gears vibe further. That part was especially fun for the co-op player who got to ride in the useless thrill kill map marking seat.

I think it should be 0 hours long in
its current form. They should either ditch the 3rd person cover shooter model and go full 3d adventure or just start a new IP. I tried playing the newer games and after a few hours I was done. No matter how pretty the games are, the gameplay is just too limited to enjoy.

It should be as long as it manages to be without tiring. Some games become boring after 3-4 hours, others stay fresh well beyond twice as much. I think 5 was a great game, managed to modernize many now-dated elements of the franchise and give the most visually captivating worlds the game has seen so far, finally not afraid to throw some colours to it and taking the story to weirder places. I gotta say I'm not particularly invested in the franchise's lore and multiplayer, but I enjoyed the last campaign more than... any other Gears, frankly. Give me another evolution like that, and be that 6 hours or 15, chances are I'll finish it.

Your advice can apply to all games and shows a funny paradox - people with money are mostly working adults, with little time, whereas game developers are clearly targeting teenagers with little money, but lots of time. This the need to provide 'value for money'.

stfu. 20h or more is ideal for any game that costs over 60euros and has no mp. Gears has MP but who the fuck plays it? It's dead'ish.
Gears 5 online is still active, I still get games instantly in the UK.
That being said after two years, my interest has waned and I'm ready to move onto halo infinite.

Agreed. Make it relatively short, but up the replay value by making it challenging. Kinda like the first one, although they scrapped an entire chapter from the 360 version just to make the PC version (an later re-releases) more bang for buck. That was kinda shitty of them.

If they are unable of integrating wide open spaces with interesting stuff to find\fight and shake the formula then yeah, a shorter more focused gears would be better.

Next step is erasing the new cast and a major overhaul to the animation system where it does't feel like i'm still playing gears1 with hd graphic.

Gears games got progressively worse as they got longer. The first was the shortest, and also the best. Still a great experience today. I'm not touching 5 again, ever. Too long, too many empty spaces, too much pointless wasting of time.

Keep it short, keep it intense and exiting. Not all experiences should be long. 10 hours should be the absolute max for a game like this if you ask me.

I want Gears simply to stay Gears, TPS, artstyle like it is, humor etc. I loved 5 but NOT the open world stuff, the DLC Hivebusters was top notch and way more enjoyable because it was not open world but more the focussed coridor style we got to know and love. Keep big changes to other games, Gears of War is a game I also love because the controls haven't change that much since the original and after I finish a campaign I always keep craving for more. They can add stuff of course like Jack and his abilities in 5 but in general the game is already perfect as is IMO.

Hivebusters DLC was the best campaign gears thing in years

just follow that formula, epic scenarios, constant mini boss battles, fun on rail spectacles

Can you imagine the threads if the next game was shorter???

"Gamepass has stifled gears development" etc chock full with the same concerned fanboys that would never go near anything Microsoft, but are the most active in GP threads. A short gears would cause incurable concern in those people.

That's not really how it works. Cutting playtime in half doesn't half the development time. In fact, when you have built and created assets, made engine modifications you're probably better off using those for as much playtime as possible instead of making just a few hours of gameplay and then have to go back and redo the whole thing in order to keep up with expectations on your next game.

they have both gotten stagnant. In fact, Halo could use a third person perspective shift to breath some new life into the series.
So you make Gears first person, you make Halo third person and then you pat yourself on the back for rebuilding both series « from the ground up »? I don't see how that improves anything except killing what makes the series different today.

So you suffer from small man syndrome?

Sure, technically active can mean 10, 100 or so players as well. Practically it's fucking dead regarding those numbers. Unless something changed in this past year.
What makes you say the MP is dead?
You seem to have some insider information cuz Gears 5 is still on the most played list.

I can play days on end back to back games of Horde/MP and not see the same gamertag twice.
Matchmaking is less than a minute full lobby pretty much any game mode.
We are still getting content drops.

So how much more alive does a game need to be to qualify for whatever metric you are using to say the MP is dead or alive?

I find this hypothetical problematic.. I mean, the game could be a thousand hours for that matter - if it's fun (!). But yeah, contextually Gears 5s "open world" was a snooze fest with no sense of value (to me), so I would for sure cut away two thirds to tighten up the experience as a whole. But if they in G6 manage to "fill" up the voids with fun stuff then of course I logically wouldn't want to make the game shorter.

subverting expectations is the name of the game lately and you have to annoy the players at every turn if you know what's good for you.
