No, they can't. They may be able to keep a SIMILAR line on every lap. But keeping the EXACT same line, with no deviations at all? Even for WR holders, that's impossible. No one is that consistent.
If it didn't look like there were any deviations at all, then it may have been the way the game predicts where players are. Since it's AI, it can reproduce the exact same movements every time. Either that, or the OP is mistaken.
What makes you believe that everyone in this thread (aside from me) is a bot?
You're playing someone from Japan. What you see as "robotic" movement is his high ping being compensated by the game.
I know its crazy and maybe you have come across something unusual, but some people really are just that good
The time trial replays for the best times in the world on the likes of Rainbow Road 64 are mental. They literally dangle off the edge of the track as they take the bends

Has anyone commented that this game has horrible lag issues every race?
People that aren't even behind me get a boost. I hit them with an item, they recover instantly.
among other things. I think this game is far from perfect online wise. needs a lot of fixing. This bot thing wouldn't even surprise me. Some games have done this in the past.

All those ROARGHS as he's zipping gracefully around the track makes you realise how demented this game really is.

Once you pay attention, you will notice. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
I don't think it's lag, I don't know what else to call it. It's just that everyone else is like a second or two ahead/behind you. But it doesn't stop the fun I guess. Mario Kart is as random as it gets, there's nothing tactical about it, so it doesn't seem to get in the way too much.
Twitter is filthy with bots. This is all the proof I need!

A simple explanation for what you are seeing is you are not see the actual player but an approximate mirage of them. Presumably the game receives key frames and for everything else is an AI determined route.
Likewise other players are not seeing you which is why you get strange things like them getting a boost off you when you were nowhere near them.

So this must be it with my issue with the game like I explained above. That makes sense.
Maybe you are talking about the first month of MK8 online when the servers were overloaded. This has been fixed long ago.
As a matter of fact, I'm playing online right now globablly and it is MUCH better than before. Call me crazy, but I think the 2.0 patch has improved quite a bit. It's smooth as fuck right now, the item wheel is spinning correctly and most hits get registered.
Online right now and how it was in the beginning is day and night.
Happened to me all the time in MK Wii. It really infuriated me, but with 8 I've not had that problem. I have had long spellps of not being able to get online at all, but that's a different story.

I've paid attention and have never noticed what you have. I always play regional, though, so maybe that's helping a bit?

I noticed something similar a few nights ago. Gave MK8 a blast after not playing it in months. Noticed 1 person had the name "Player" and was absolutely amazing. I came second 3 races in a row with this "Player" coming first each time. And he/she/it nailed every corner and it looked way too perfect.

There's something weird guys. They could just be insanely good, but it was so... robotic.
youre getting beaten by a kid using tilt controls. that's like losing to a blind person in the "how many fingers am I holding up" game.
All it did was remind me how much I hate that firehopping bullshit. Looks so stupid.
