I think Notch just threatened to blackmail Brenda Romero

I realized in this thread that Notch could probably become president when the minecraft kids get old enough to vote. Well, if he was a native citizen anyway.

I think Brenda comes out on top because her Twitter feed paints her as a nice, happy, cool person who has moved on from this argument and notch's Twitter feed paints him as an obsessed, grumpy dude who is still going on about this stuff.

I hate to ask this dumb question but what order do you read tweets like that? Is it top to bottom, bottom to top... WHAT IS HAPPENING?

This guy used to be an inspiration to indie game developers. What's he working on anyway?

I think he stopped when he realized he could never top Minecraft and all the Scrolls stuff happened.

Sooooo.... Isn't this blackmail? Like literal textbook blackmail? Can he get sued for this?

Yeah, he escalated shit pretty quick out of nowhere. He's always been steadfast in his views in a way that comes off as completely childish and off-putting. Completely arrogant and throws his opinion around as if they're worth as much as he made.

Brenda is claiming the paper mario "gate" reference is relating to gamergate, and Notch is agreeing to Nintendo claim it isnt.
How is it arrogant?

OP should of explained the tweets

Notch has a weird quality where I usually agree with the point he's making but he makes it in the most arrogant and assholish way possible. It really does seem like a DM for someone who was calmly disagreeing with you would be a better cause of action then publicly threatening to black mail them.

totally. This is basically a masterclass in how to start off being technically right, but act so poorly in doing so that you end up looking wrong.

edit - Actually being wrong in another way, to be more accurate.

I like the comment section

"Guess that's just one of the down sides of becoming a household name, constant scrutiny."

It must suck being famous. Every time I threaten to blackmail someone who has politely disagreed with me in a discussion about a Nintendo game, I get called on it.

But seriously, at least he admits that he made a mistake. Can't hate the man for that.

Well that was exceptionally quick.

Still think there's a running trend of Notch saying something controversial (or at least, going about communicating his point controversially) and then backtracking soon afterwards. Dude should take things slower to avoid having to retract stuff he says as often if it's legitimately putting-your-foot-in-your-mouth syndrome, spoken as someone who does the same thing constantly... Just with a comparatively microscopic audience.

Could it be like part of the Orthy thing where a discussion between friends was read into differently?
Eh, the dude still strongly hinted at a ton of controversial policies for the XBox One in that public conversation. Even if he wasn't as flippant about the people it would effect, if MS had seen that convo before anybody else had I could've still seen some sort of punishment being dished out.

Uh man wut

Like, besides how much of an asshole this makes Notch, all I could think of when reading that is:

Like, I don't get how you go from a response like that to blackmail. There's just no logic there.

I can't believe the things I say in a public forum are scrutinized, just appalling.

What the fuuuuuck is wrong with this dude? He has seriously gone off the deep end.
Hasn't he said in a round about way that he hates much of his life now? That being rich and having all the stuff he does still isn't doing anything for him...

This twitter stuff aside, there's still people who actually think that Paper Mario reference wasn't about Watergate?...

No. He says gross and inflammatory shit all of the time because he hates himself and everyone else and can get away with it. Miserable person.

Damn, she was being chill AF about it, too

I feel like never having to worry about money again would make me more cordial

I can't help but think these kinds of situations would be easily avoidable, but I'm glad this has come to a reasonable conclusion.

By the way, to the perma-banned guy who narced us out to Notch on Twitter: Dude, move on with your life.
