I think sony is sending Tearaway is death

I don't think they will affect eachother much.

If you own a Vita you'll want to pick the game up no matter what.

If anything, the PS4 launch will help since it will drum up interest for the Vita.

It will be out on 22nd Nov

Same release date as xbox one launch, mario party, zelda a link between worlds...

Sony might want to adjust the release date for this game to sell better

Not really seeing how the Xbox One launch would affect this much.

"I was planning on picking up Tearaway for $40 but instead, I think I'll spend $500+ on a brand new console."

Zelda & Mario Party might have more of an effect but they're still totally different genres on a totally different system.

But honestly, if you're releasing a game between September-December, there's going to be fierce competition no matter what date you pick unless you pick a date after Christmas (which is a bad idea).

Well, my preorder isn't going anywhere, and it shows how afraid the competition is when they have to schedule their biggest launches of the year against it.

Ain't no stopping the Tearaway train!

Well it is ridiculous, to push it back (okay..) and to push it back to the Launch of the XBONE (WTFBBQ)

Having said that...given that I'm a convert of the digital download format ever since getting a Vita, maybe the DD sales will help!

They could move it forward maybe?

Why would this matter? Most vita owners will be getting a Xbox One, have a 3DS, or Wii U?

Probably? Most Vita owners are core gamers, so it's only expected the installed base has a relatively large fraction of multi-platform owners.

Having said that, the game is going to bomb whenever it's released. I'm doing my part, but we have to face reality.

Both can be true. There was an unfortunate lapse in retail releases. There is now a major retail release, and its release date is unfortunately timed strategically.

Or it's, god forbid, intentional to get the most amount of eyes on Tearaway because there will be lots and lots of people in retail on that day buying related projects.

People always think this is a bad strategy when it's actually a great strategy, and game companies have been doing this for years -- because it works.

Not as much as Nintendo throwing Wonderful101 under the bus, releasing against GTAV.

There is no excuse for that release date, especially as the Euro release date was weeks ago.

This holiday in general will be jam packed. The fight for peoples wallets will be interesting to say in the least.

Im in day one.
I hope it goes well for Media Molecule, theyve become one of my fav devs from this gen

I'm getting it. It looks great and it's only $40, IIRC. So they have one sale.

I'm sure they're now thrilled.

$39.99 Vita game in the fall is somewhat troubling. Maybe positive reviews will help raise its mind share to allow for decent sales for the holidays. Black Friday is the next week in the US, so that may help as well. NPD November threads are going to be glorious.

Vita owners don't really seem to be ones to worry about buying multiple games at a time, they're pretty hardcore judging from the attach rate, Also I'd imagine the majority of Vita owners will be getting PS4 over XB1 due to the whole core gamer thing and remote play.

I don't think Tearaway will suffer because of this, but maybe some purchases will be week 2/3 instead of day one.

Damn. Some of you guys literally have no idea how the industry works. Again, Nintendo picked that date specifically BECAUSE GTAV was releasing on it. There will be hundreds of people in Best Buy and Gamestops around the country that day -- it's a form of exposure.

Do you guys seriously keep thinking these companies are just making mistakes? Like they don't realize when they release their games?

I hope this game will sell at least 200,000 in the west.

I think Killzone has potential for 500,000 but are they advertising the game?

Make a bundle and I think it could do decently (as well as a Vita game could) for Xmas/Holidays.
This. Put this or KZ:M with a cheap, decently sized memory card, and a subscription to PS+ and Baby, you've got a stew going.

Yea, I don't think this game is gonna do great, but hopefully it'll get some solid sales.

Put me in the camp, that will also buy it as well.

He's got a point. They clearly know what they're doing.
Well the results came in from Japan:

Famitsu: The Wonderful 101: 6,663
Media Create: The Wonderful 101: 5,258

I'm sure the Sep NPD's will prove you right.

it's also being made for a console with piss-poor sales when compared to practically everything else but the wii u... We new the sales were going to suck from the start.

Not if it's too hot a day there won't be :)

I played Tearaway at E3 this year. It actually convinced me NOT to get it. It was super slow paced and kinda boring. I was super underwhelmed.

Don't think date matters for a title like this. Feel like it's going to gradually sell well over time with word of mouth and critic praise down the line.

Will buy Day One, unlike an XBox One.

Apocalypse is cancelled.

bam! best post i read all thread.

100% agree.

tearaway may be sent to its death, but i'll be there cradling its limp lifeless body.

a shame so few people are getting to experience these vita gems.

almost every impression i've read has blown the person away... so i have no worries.

We already know that this game would have been better on a console and deserves 6s.

That sort of pervasive thinking killed it before it was even programmed. It looks fun to me though, so smokeydave and I will be buying.

People who are buying XBONE and XBONE only don't matter. They were never going to buy the game. People who are buying both consoles and are interested in the game will buy it and play it.

The launch of xbone means nothing and Link between worlds? Come on.

I'm sure the Sep NPD's will prove you right.

Well, actually they won't prove either side right because it will be impossible to tell what Wonderful 101 would have sold being launched on any other day. The fact that the game is underperforming in Japan and Europe has nothing to do with why the game might underperform in the US, though, right? It's now going to be because it launched on the same day as GTA? Is that the story the apologists are now starting?

Every single time a smaller game gets released on the same day as a huge AAA title, neogaf cries foul. Literally every time. But they are wrong. Case in point -- Yakuza 3 launched on the same day as FFXIII. Everyone cried foul...until Sega said the game sold well, enough to get us Dead Souls and 4. Then 4 came out, launched alongside jack shit...and 5 will now never be released here.

I don't go on game buying binges, do people do that commonly? I usually stagger purchases for when I think I have time to play them, unless I want to support a dev on day one. Does that coordinated release date stuff work for some of you?

If you want it and it plays well, buy it. Simple as that. I'm also getting a PS4 so I'll remote play Watchdogs and the switch to Tearaway.

I kind of do 'save for Winter' style because I have this completely unnatural idea that the games will magically become rare in months...

No one else I know buys more than one game at launch. From the casualest of casual to the hardest of hardcore. And if they do, they're like 10 dollar games not 60 dollar ones.

That doesn't explain why sony ended up shifting killzone away from gta release.

Its also possible those who are intending to buy Tearaway and Tearaway only, get swayed to buying the xbox one, or zelda, or mario party when they step into the shop. I imagine there will be lots of xbox one games promo during that period.

not buying an xbox, don't care about mario party, still undecided about zelda, have a vita, like the look of Tearaway.

Oh look, consumer choice. How nice.

Unfortunately, during that time, I'm going to be using my Vita for PS4 remote play mainly. If Tearaway is amazing, I'll get it.

Killzone is a big franchise. It's not Tearaway, a brand-new IP Vita game, or Yakuza, a niche Japanese franchise.

Whatever data Sony or Nintendo has, it's not accidental the release dates they choose for their games. That's the whole point. So many people think they are 'sending their game to die' when it's not that at all. It's a strategically-chosen date. Those strategies can often vary, but there is thought behind it. The reactions like 'OMG what is Nintendo/Sony/Sega THINKING?!?!?!' are very naive.

It's like when a sports fanatic questions a Phil Jackson coaching decision. Often times a coach can be wrong and the fan can be right, but make no mistake that Phil has thought long and hard about every choice he's making. Nothing is willy nilly. Nothing is by accident.

Haha. I'll admit that I've gotten to itch to buy something yet I knew I didn't have time for, but that's because I wanted the game before. Most people I know are like those you know, one at a time. The bigger enthusiasts will buy multiple games, but not cause they were swayed by a box of game x when they went to pick up game Y, they already had plans to buy both. Of course the bargain bin used game shoppers I know seem to shop more sporadically.
