I will never understand what gets in so many people's craws about that 5 second "For espanol, el numero dos."

Your second question is also incredibly vague and broad, you may want to narrow down what you're talking about.

What you got against Chinese OP?

OP's caught in a chinese finger trap

that's why they haven't responded to anyone so far

1) White nationalism is actually not ok even though it's been mainstreamed

2) Conservative problems aren't even a real thing

I mean Obama being a secret lizard-muslim ISIS gun-eater sleeper cell triple agent is a typical conservative problem

The only conservative problem is how to make people dumb and angry enough to give corporations their money

OP I live in a country where we actually have English as our official language, and there are places where shops list their products in Asian languages with an English translation underneath.

Sorry, I should have included a trigger warning for you. I'll do better next time.

I have no idea what the OP is trying to say. I am assuming he is a conservative? Regardless, I want to pitch in and say that non English speaking immigrants entering the workforce should be offered English classes to help them fully assimilate. I work in the healthcare field and I find it incredibly frustrating when I have to deal with non English speaking patients, especially when I am working by myself and there is no one around that speaks their language. I can't help you if I don't know what you need help with.

English is by far the most common language in the US, and by not learning it you are essentially limiting yourself to specific jobs and careers that don't require the use of English and it puts you at a disadvantage in the long run. Not only that, but it creates racial tension and further promotes unnecessary stereotypes.

Not sure what you are going with their OP.

Trump is awful. So much that as a bit of a right winger myself, who hates discussing politics, I have converted at least 5 people to vote for a third party canidate, vote for Hillary, or not vote at all.

Anything outside of Trump.

I.... don't see the problem with the first question. Imo every business/service in the world should have multiple languages. There's like, zero downside to it. Helps everybody.

For real though. Everyone should learn at least one other language, might as well be Spanish

I feel like English speaking countries don't put nearly enough emphasis on language classes in schools. I've been travelling around Europe the last couple of months and literally everyone speaks a minimum of 2 languages, often 3 or 4.

Learning just one language feels so entitled

America doesn't even have an official language. Surprisingly.

Actually I'm shocked that one didn't get defined during one immigration panic or another.

At the federal level, yeah there's no national official language. Each state, though, still retains the power to set their own official languages (or choose none). 32 states have English as their sole official language. 16 have no official language at all. Hawai'i has the Hawaiian language a second official language and Alaska also has English as an official language alongside 20 indigenous languages. Also, there's no official language in Louisiana but its constitution specifically protects and promotes French as part of its history, iirc.

And a lot of that offical adoption of English solely was stupid scare tactic shit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English-only_movement

(Some of the US territories also have English alongside other official languages like American Samoa (Samoan), Guam (Chamorro), N. Mariana Islands (Chamorro, Carolinian) and Puerto Rico (Spanish))

I know countless Republicans who are voting for Hilary because when they look at Trump, they don't see someone who represents what they believe. They are generally want a small state that upholds how they interpret the constitution, attempts to maximise individual freedom and steps in when they think its required. In fact, I think basically everyone in the US thinks this, it's just that where they draw the line differs (ie an average Democrat will see "maximising freedom" as a removal of financial constraints and "when required" to step in will be more frequent). Banning Muslims and buildings walls doesn't really do this for them, and they hate what's become on their party.

1. I don't understand why this is a problem, we have that in germany too for arabs or turks.

I don't know what you mean with that second question, sry.

In Canada some services are offered in Spanish, English, Mandarin and Arabic

Such is the way of multiculturalism, it doesn't rub well with some

I'm with ya OP. If Hillary gets elected, calling help centers is going to be a bitch. There's probably going to be like 3 minutes of just reading all the languages in order to be more "PC". Trump will get rid of the language options! English only! It's the best. Crooked Hillary going to ruin this country. Ruined!

I have no idea what you're talking about. Your points don't make sense and I can't see how Trump has anything to do with them.

I mean why is it a problem that you can choose to get help in Spanish. Similarly, why would it matter to you if Chinese or Indian languages were options as well? If it makes people's lives easier isn't that a good thing. I don't really see the reason for your outrage

"I'm no racist, but America needs less culture from other races."

"Trump's an idiot who shouldn't have power, but I'm going to vote for him anyway because we share the same ideals."

I got you covered, OP.

1) in the us most services have a Spanish versus English option so where do you draw the line ? Should Chinese also be okay or Indian languages too ? Should America go sept lingual ?

This is defined by the company not the government....I thought you conservatives were small government?

Not only is English not the official language of the United States, but the one time we almost did get an official language, it was likely going to end up being two languages: English and German. At one point German was so widely spoken in the U.S. that many newspapers printed an English and a German edition in some cities. The advent of World War I made speaking German much less cool than it used to be, though, so that all got dropped in a hurry.

The notion that American citizens should only be speaking English is a very recent invention of the far right.

You berated Fox News but this is exactly the kinds of nonsense questions they throw around.

2) there are legitimate concerns if you're a conservative and how can that be addressed in a reasonable manner (Fox News is wacko , brietbart is horrific . nyt and others are good but for now not trusted) what's the middle ground ? And how can we fix this as ppl (not just Americans but ppl of the world )

How can we help and yes I know some ppl are beyond help but how can we as a world populace help.
Republicans wanted it to go like this. The whole discourse turned toxic and they stood by and clapped while it happened.

You have moderate conservatives that won't give a definitive "No" answer to the question if Obama is muslim. They thought they needed this to win and it has backfired in that they can't produce a candidate that resonates with reasonable people anymore. They tried to oppose it and they all failed miserably.
Now you got the guy that sent a task force to Hawaii (remember the "absolutely unbelievable" stuff they were finding?) to get information about Obama's birth certificate as your party's candidate.

I don't think they can bring it back. It's a force of its own now and I'm sure we'll see something like a "Trump News Network" after he lost and it might get worse.

The U.S. doesn't have an official language. This is by intent.
There almost was a requirement that all federal documents be published in German. That's as close as we got.

I literally have zero idea why. I feel like it was probably some guy at the Convention who refused to budge and this was his "no, now i'm going to be the dick!"

There was a sizeable German speaking population back then.

Our country implements inclusive measures so that our closest non English speaking neighbours can function better when they visit or live in our country.

How do we deal with this?

It's a legitimate concern.

it is hard to understand that many americans dont know this... it was first thing i learned in highschool and everyone was proud of diversity... and that was in freakin 'bama.

I think it's hillarious that OP is scared of other languages taking over English while their own grasp of the language is tenuous at best

Don't be a Trump. Highlight the flaws in a person's argument instead of using insults.

Considering you have a misspelled word and a pluralism error in your post, attacking a person's writing skill is probably not the best call.

1. Why should a line be drawn at all?
If a language is heavily used in a country, why would businesses not want to capitalize on the diversity?

2. What needs to be addressed? Multiple languages in the world?
I agree that it would be pretty nice if everybody spoke the same language with the same dialect, but that's not going to happen, so just get over any discomfort about being around people who aren't exactly like you, and the world will be fine.
