I think we're all sleeping on RIGS (PSVR)

I'm down for some RIGS, but there's no point in getting excited when I don't know how much PSVR is going to cost nor do we know it's release date. So I will be patient before I get hype

Trailer was great.

Sadly, it'll blatantly end up not having any sort of single player mode, meaning that the limited amount of people who splash out for the hardware and that particular game will be left sitting waiting for other people to play against.

I see this taking off as an eSport about as much as Evolve did.

They said that there will be some sort of single player mode but that they're not ready to talk about it yet.

That's what was surprising for me for the conference today, no timeframe. I know they have said it would be spring or the first half of next year, but we're getting release dates for spring and start of summer games now, so it might be a little farther back than originally thought.

I'm not sleeping on it, it is definitely one of the games that excited me about VR. Simple concept, but it looks like it could be like Rocket League and keep you coming back to play on and off for months.

But with VR it has the potential to grab people more, if done right.

Would like to see some proper gameplay rather than 5 second snippets, even in 2D.

All the while PSVR isn't free, I will be ignoring games I can most certainly not afford.

I have a feeling that is why it's receiving very little attention.

If it were coming to PS4 as an FPS, I think it looks amazing. Almost like WipEout, but a shooter. They need some amazing music, and customisable mechs, but I'd be so interested in that game.

What makes it "esports"? Why isn't it just "multiplayer"?

It's not as much eSports as much as its just sports. The setting is a sport where the competitors pilot mechs. There is a hoop in the middle that the player with "possession" has to jump through to score a point.

This and Gran Turismo Sport is what I am buying a VR for! Hope there's support for both on launch day! : D
edit: I've seen this game before, but when I was sitting at my desk watching it this morning, I couldn't help but get really excited for it. It just screams fun or something to me. I hope it's a big hit! :D

I mean the game looks great - but I just don't know how's it going to be possible to not feel nauseous after a minute of playing this.

Everyone I know that's played it has raved about it. Guerrilla Cambridge has some great shooter chops so I have high hopes for this.

This game looks really cool, but still not sure how it controls. The way they were moving around, looked like it would only be possible with a controller in hand. So is it a combination PSVR and controller game, sure you can't get that kind of movement with move since the navigation controller isn't a thing anymore.

Also, I was under the impression it was like a collection of futuristic arena sports games, this latest trailer made it look like just one. Hopefully PSVR isn't more than $300, that way I can get it on sale or something closer to $200. RIGS and GT Sports look really good for PSVR.

So how do you score? Is it a ball type thing, or is it jumping into the "hoop" in the middle of the arena?

But I agree, this game looks sick. VERY Rocket League, down to the logo.

Also, for some reason, I didn't hate the commentary on this one like I usually do. I think it's because the game resembles real sports enough to kind of warrant it, over something like Evolve which just has commentary for no reason.

Only have seen one Gameplay Video so far and Gameplay looked a bit Slow, Don't know if this would be my Cup of tea

While it looks great, I don't think it will compel people to buy the PSVR just on it's own merits, and the abundance of a system goes a long way to enabling a game to have a competitive following. Assuming there's an awesome killer app which does move people to buy the system (WipEout VR pls), then this game should sell if it gets a good marketing push and good impressions.

Yes you use a regular controller.

2 things I like about this game.
- Clean map
- Head tracking aiming might fix my poor poor twin stick aiming.

It's a capture the flag thing. So more like ball type thing from your example. The one who hold the ball/flag had to enter the goal to score point. Everyone on the offensive team protect the ball carrier, everyone on the opposing team try to kill the carrier to grab the ball/flag

I posted this video a while ago. In depth walk through of the gameplay mechanics.

Q: you turn if you turn your head? thats kinda stupid. id rather aim with the right thumbstick, and turn my head just to look at my surroundings. it isnt that hard for your brain to register these information. physical sports like airsoft and paintball requires your brain to do this.

A: I thought the same thing before I played it, but it actually works so much better when you play it. Aiming is really precise if you're able to look at things, and turning only happens when you look at a certain angle, which again makes sense when you're in the game. There wasn't a time, when playing this game, where I actually felt like using the right stick would have been better.

I definitely havent been sleeping on it, its easily my most hyped confirmed PSVR game at this point. I can see it being a surprise hit like Rocket League, definitely has that same arena vibe going for it. Its also one of the main reasons im going to PSX this year

The Esports focus isn't doing it any favors. That title has such a negative connotation with the core gaming community at the moment who hear it and think of dudebros.

I don't see it as an esport focus, the entire motif and design of the game seems to be trying to sell it as a realistic future sport. They are drawing a lot from real sports and stuff like F1 with the way the bots are designed.

To me it's different than something like Evolve, which felt much more like having esports stuff being forced into it. Having the commentary here feels natural because it's being positioned as a real sport.

Maybe the market it too seriously. They should look at Rocket league, tone down those seriousness.

Well it's inherently less goofy than RL, because few things are more goofy than RL. It's soccer with cars. Strange thing is though watching the initial trailer I actually got reminded most of Rocket League. I think it hits on a lot of the same points. I just thought it was really well made. I didn't get the vibe that they were trying to force their way into e-sports at all.

I swear, some people are down on VR as a whole simply because they don't want to feel compelled to buy more hardware.

That aside, I still have some trepidation with any of these fast-paced VR games given my first and only not-so-great experience with an early Oculus Rift demo. But if and when I get to try PSVR, and games like this specifically, I'm pretty sure I'll be on board, too :-)

Yeah, I really dig the clean, shiny sports aesthetic. It's definitely channeling some of the same feel as Rocket League.

What if someone is behind you and you need to do a 180 degree turn?

Wow, that looks cool. It reminded me of IGPX.

And now that I think about it a IGPX game with PSVR would be fucking cool too.

By adding guns they doomed this game, now it's just Hawken/Titanfall and that game died fast.

Well guns weren't the reason titanfall died. Hawken, most people don't even know about tbh.

In regards to Rigs, personally I don't think it looks all that great. Seems slower paced than I expected. Would need to see more to determine.

Happy #ValentinesDay everyone!

To me Rigs could potentially be the next fresh 'WipEout'-level creation spawning from the UK.
