Is there anything better than the smell of a new AAA Playstaion IP?
The Last of Us type moments don't come along often, but when they do oh boy
This generation will have a huge Playstation killer app I can feel it in veins
I recently platinumed GoWR and got the 100% after 92 hours, so I can rest and wait for a while.
Regarding new IPs, Sony is working on a lot of them. There are at least 2 Bungie ones in the works, at least one of them to be relesed by/before 2025, and new IPs coming from Bend, Haven, Firewalk, Deviation, London Studio, Housemarque, Ballistic Moon, Team Ninja, different Chinese studios and apparently also (if not now, soon) Sony Santa Monica or Naughty Dog. There are also studios like Bluepoint, Pixel Opus, Team Asobi, Media Molecule or Guerrilla that we have no idea if they are working on a new IP or not.
We know that around half of the games under development at PS Studios are new IPs, plus there are the Bungie ones and the 3rd party ones. According to Jimbo PS5 will have more exclusives than any previous PS console, meaning we'll have a lot of exclusive AAA new IPs and looking at the Sony track record make sure that a good percentage of them will be great and very successful.
Eh. I’m kind of over third person games with hours and hours of cutscene and set pieces. Let’s try something new this time.
Sony has shorter games like Ratchet Rift apart, Morales, Lost Legacy and games without cutscenes and set pieces focus like Gran Turismo, Sackboy, Dreams or MLB just to name a few examples. Plus there's all their VR stuff.
In fact Sony is maybe the big publisher with the most diverse portfolio in terms of genres and types of games.
They’ll keep selling well and people will hush while critics throw awards and high ratings at them, while the formula grows horridly stale to me. At this point, I’m more excited for the movies and tv shows based on the games than I am for new versions of the games.
These Sony games are selling over 15M and in some cases even 20M and get critical acclaim and lots of awards. Way more than before.
So as a company, even if Sony also makes many very different types of games and funds external indies/3rd parties that cover even more types of game, they'll continue focusing on that because it's what it works best for them and what most people wants them to do, more Uncharted, Horizon, God of War, The Last of Us, Gran Turismo, Spider-Man, Ghost of Tsushima etc. and similar because it's what dozens of millions of people buys them, like them and ask for them.
They won't cancel or stop making a game with potential >20M sales only because a handful of forum users don't like them.
