I thought I was about to 100% Mario 3D World...I was wrong...

Update: My 2 1/2 year old son came in the room holding the controller and said, "Where did Luigi go dada?"

I walked into the TV room to find this:

!00% my fault. I leave the controller where he can reach it.

:/

This happened with my Mario Galaxy save , my son deleted it. But as you say it's our fault. or could be a Nintendo conspiracy against fathers

Sorry OP you moved from nearly 100% to 0% as Murphy's law would predicted.

That gives me so many bad memories. Me deleting my baby sitter's Zelda NES save, and my little cousin deleting my Phantasy Star Online save after I specifically told him to use any and all VMU's except the one with a string on it.

It would be cool if nowadays there was a way to safeguard a specific save with a password required for deletion... or a system wise password like parental control so it's not too easy to forget.

Cloud save backups would be swell.

This thread made me have another go at 100% it but it instead made me realise I'm never going to. I just watched a speedrun of champions road and put it back on the shelf.

This thread though, what a twist.

Try having everything except Champions Road accomplished. I'll never beat that damn level. I'm perpetually stuck at 99%

The entire game is ezpz then you get to Champions road and it's like 1000% harder

That sucks OP. Did you at least do the Captain Toad final level and the Mystery House Challenge?

So since I'm never going to do all those character stamp unlocks and OP's save was nuked, this thread is now about how can you copy someone else's save to your WiiU just to play Champion's Road. Can it be done, GAF?

You don't have to get the character stamps to unlock champion's road. You have to get every star, stamp, and golden flagpole in worlds 1 through flower.

LOL, I thought this thread would be about the final level WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE. You really thought you had to beat every level with every character, no. Now go out there and fail miserably at the last level.

My deepest condolences OP. That really sucks.

In a way I feel like 3D World is one of the easier games to have erased since it's so segmented and number and type of collectibles are so uniform across levels.

Something like a long RPG or open-world game with lots of different things that could happen on each playthrough would be much much worse.

On the bright side your son asking "Where did Luigi go?" is a hilarious story.

Also while obviously cloud saves (thankfully these are coming) and backups are best what I do is every few months I couple all my internal saves to my hard drive so if my console fails I have that. I also need to take a moment and back up the hardrive to another one.

"Ehhhh, we didn't clear no flagpoles and we didn't steal no bike neither."

Man up, Mikey!

What I did was that I finished a level with a character then at the end I used my other 3 Wii motes and jump with the other characters to the pole.....

That's exactly what I did. I'd play through a stage as with one of the characters I hadn't cleared it with, then right before the flagpole I'd activate three Wiimotes and sidle the other characters up close, hit the pole with player one first before quickly pressing the jump buttons on all three Wiimotes at the same time which would cause the other characters to latch onto the bottom of the pole like little magnets, rinse and repeat. Got the character flags on every stage and unlocked the greatness of Champion's Road in only about 2-3 days, totally worth it and I actually enjoyed getting to experience all of the stages one more time in order to get a solid reward.

Just in case you missed it earlier in the thread, you don't need all the character stamps to unlock World Crown (which contains Champion's Road). I have a longer post earlier in the thread that specifies unlock conditions for that and other stuff in the game.

Imagine the feeling when you do all that, unlock Champion's Road, then realise you're not actually good enough to beat it.

...actually it felt aright. I had a heck of a good time with the game. Favourite 3D Mario ever.

Ok I read that earlier but then saw something posted from Gamefaqs which I thought said you did need it so I was confused. Now I might actually try for it since I think I've got most of that done. I ended up ragequitting the final Crown level in 3D Land after many attempts so we'll see how it goes if I ever get there.

Beating the game is one thing. Beating the game 100% is another thing.

Doing it with three of your best friends? Well, now you're talking.

You can still do Champion's Road without beating the game with all 5 characters. Just do everything else. I remember when I saw that I had to beat the game with everyone and I thought to myself "I'm okay with having 4 stars on my profile." I'm sure you can too.

I think you missed something somewhere, OP.

I played through the game with just Mario and Rosalina exclusively. And got to Champion's Road. And I don't really remember collecting stamps either, I thought that was optional Wii U system shit.

Also wanted to say Champion's Road is so brilliantly designed, it's ridiculously over the top at times but once you get the patterns down it's like becoming one with the game, my best Mario series clear ever.

I'm getting mighty sick of Joel taking so long in between updates. :/

Yeah but the updates he's had have been pretty packed, but yeah, we need something else at this point to hold us over until Comic Con. Plus in my book he's still way classier than Trace and Frank trying to undermine excitement for the reboot by throwing shade at Joel on Twitter trying to convince people they "weren't welcome" to be part of the reboot (which doesn't wash since Joel keeps saying everyone is welcome and Trace himself even said in a podcast interview that Joel "made me a very nice offer" but he turned it down anyways for a reason he won't explain).

Edit: Just caught the post about your son nuking your file, haha. Seriously, YIKES. Much sympathy, I think I would pass out.

If you want a cool trick, just connect three extra controllers at the end and "finish" with those characters

Games that force you to do tedious things to play its best content need to stop doing that.

Sonic Heroes had its 2 best modes, the Full Race (2-player race that actually consists of the entire stage) and Super Hard Mode (cutsceneless classic mode where all the stages are heavily redesigned to be more challenging) locked behind such tedious goals that nobody would even like the game after unlocking them anymore.

I can't remember if each user has its own set of save files, but could it be that your son switched users and your save file is actually still intact?

My 3 year old daughter erased my single player play through while I was going back to beat the stages with each character. I was so silently mad I didn't want to touch the game again.

After a while I noticed my daughter really caught on. She can go from stage one to world Bowser and clear it! Sometimes with the help of super tonookie but still.

So we started from scratch, went through every level and every star together. At the end of each level we would turn on our other 2 controllers and just throw the other characters toward the flag pole. It was a lot less tedious than I imagined it in my head.

Trust me, there was nothing worse than playing with 4 people, and having one of them grab the flag before the rest could reach it. That's the only god damned reason I still haven't 100%'d it yet, myself.

It's just collecting the levels' collectables.

I 100%'d this not too long after launch, including doing Champion's Road with all 5 characters. Doing the final stage with Toad was one of the most difficult things I'd done in a long time. That level is an absolute beast.

I did do everything and unlocked Champion's road. But I gave up like a little bitch after trying for an hour. It's like a 5 minutes long Super Meat Boy level.
