I want to go bald

Summertime is the perfect time to try it out, so go for it.
Some people really can't pull it off though, but you'll only know once you try.

Wintertime kinda sucks though, and cold rain on a shaven head is like torture, keep that in mind. ;)

Shave your head, then.

I decided to shave bald when various factors came together:
- I already had started balding with 16.
- I tried virtually everything with my hair, but it was too thin and brittle for any styling, and due to its width and the balding, even dying it wouldn't help making it look any better.
- It started getting greasy very quickly.
- It clogged up my shower drain really badly.

I shaved bald, and now I'm really good. Stuck with it for years now. No more issues, and it looks decent, too.

Not having hair does not stop you from wearing headgear. If you're cold, wear a hat. If you don't want to get wet, use a hat or an umbrella. It's not hard. :P

I know that my father still shaves his head. I don't mind that minor amount of maintenance.
That's the thing, as others have mentioned most people that are bald, even from losing their hair still have to shave twice or more a week to keep it clean. I started going bald when I was still in high school, decided at the age of 18 to just save it all and love it. I still have that horseshoe ring if I were to let it grow.

So if you like the bald look, just grab your nearest electric trimmer and give yourself a 1. Then just jump in the shower, lather up the head and go to town with a bic, mach 3 turbo or whatever your preference. Once you have it shaved down, its just the maintenance in the shower (well, I do it in the shower). You can feel any stubble with your hand so you don't even need a mirror or anything.

I get the whole clean look but your examples are hilarious. Yea, being an incredibly good looking person with a well shaped head is helpful.

You have to use a lot of sunscreen, but it's the easiest part of your body to apply to, more so than the face. However I never wear hats in winter because my skin is thick and lustrous, like a Dolphin.

For me, I use a Wahl Clipper that I modified so that the vibrating teeth have an "under bite". Shave at the wrong angle, I'll get slices and cuts across the noggin, Shave right, then its a clean shave (it'll look like morning shadow) that takes ~7 mins. I do that twice a week. I record is 11 mins from start to finish + shower.

I don't use sunscreen on my head, because I generally avoid going out into the sun whenever I can.
I even have a good reason for it, medically speaking.

I'm recently bald myself. One of the better decisions I've made as an adult. Do it OP. You'll look back thinking you should've been did it.

Those are all pretty good looking people. Like the one time I thought I can look like Jake Gyllenhaal in Jarhead but ended up more like Coneheads

I don't get it, just shave your head. Even people who are bald have to shave their head to have it look like the examples you gave. I don't think anyone loses their hair entirely like that.

Yeah some people look great with a bald head, most look like shit though.

Gotta post a pic of yourself OP so we can judge.

As you wish:

You think shaving your head regularly and taking care of your scalp is any less troublesome?

I'm not under any delusions that I'll suddenly never have to touch my head again. But I hazard to think that it's somehow any more work than my normal hair.

why not just shave your head OP?

Hair shaving it is. I had thought I'd hear about BaldGAFers who went through laser hair removal or something

My hairline has receded a bit, and thinned a bit. Additionally I cut it super duper (but not bic level) short.

One one hand, I'd like to have all my hair, so that if have more options for dyeing it and styling it, and do miss it at times.

It hasn't hurt my dating life though. Actually, in a way, I like it in that sense. It keeps the really superficial girls away, so that I don't have to deal with them.

Well yeah, off course. :P
It just doesn't always work out like that. Forgetting your beany at home or not expecting it to rain tends to happen from time to time and that still sucks. ;)

Of course. I only ever have problems when it's suddenly pouring down. I wear glasses, so they tend to slip off my ears then. So annoying. Same if it's really hot and my head sweats lots, too, though.
But temperature-wise I've never had any problems.

As a guy with receding hairline and a few years from going bald (Thanks, dad!), I consider this thread offensive.

If you have a head full of hair, then sport that hair with pride. Do it for all of us.

What is your skin complexion?

If you are of darker complextion: go for it
If you are as white as a t-shirt. I would not

*edit. just saw the pic. i think it could work

As someone with male pattern baldness since 16, I resent people choosing to be bald the same way visually impaired despise people with 20/20 vision "choose" to wear designer glasses.

You don't understand how good you have it.

Truth. I've been wearing glasses since I was like 5 and don't get why people that don't need them want to wear them

I buzz my head and face twice a week.

Jury's out on whether it's more work than the hair I used to have, since I never did much with it once I stopped gelling it into an 80's 'do.

Bald people don't just wake up one day and have all their hair gone. Even Vin Diesel or Dwayne Johnson would still have the fringe of hair around the sides of their heads if they grew it out. They still have to shave and do maintenance to keep a uniform bald look. Going bald and even being bald is not a ticket out of hair maintenance. Also balding is a slow process that can take many years, decades even, wherein you'll still have enough hair for it to be a hassle, but not a full head of hair to have an actual haircut.

1. I hate hair care. Barbering, shampooing, brushing, combing, pomade, and the personal care work that I actually actively dislike. It's troublesome and time consuming.
Get a pair of clippers and just keep it buzzed.

I run my clippers with a #1 attachment on my head every sunday. Keeps it close enough to where you don't even have to shampoo if you don't want. Want it shorter just run it without any attachments. I hate my hair but only because product does absolutely nothing it's too thick and stubborn and my hair grows out weird so i keep it buzzed.

Those Wahl clippers are rough. I switched to a remington shaver which is much softer and gives a nice shave.

To the OP, just shave it, you'll look fine and in a month be glad you did.

so you already did it?

oh wait - thats the hair you have so much trouble looking after? You're practically there already. Surely you can already imagine what you'll look like (never mind the photoshop help in the thread). So just get some clippers and go to it. Or get your barber to do it next time. If you don't like the look, it won't take long to grow back to where you have it now.

It's why I use em. They're like the AK47 of clippers.

Never got a better shave with other brands TBH. I only need to do a single once over on my head and never worry about missing a spot. Other brands miss hair or need a couple run throughs to make sure everything is caught. My modified clippers let me go pretty fast without worry(except for the angle like I mentioned before) of stray hairs.

As someone who was once able to sit on his hair, I say shave it. I shaved my head as an act of solidarity with my mother, who was going through leukemia (she's fine, thanks for asking). The moment I felt the wind on my scalp, there was no turning back. It is the best “style “ I've ever had. I'm not even receding. Granted, I'm lucky my head has a decent shape for it.
