I want to play Phoenix Wright 5 soooo bad........

Wait, I have to play the Apollo game before AA5? I can't find that game anywhere and it is expensive online :(

edit: oh shit, it is only 20 dollars on amazon.

I played AA1 and then most of 2, but gave up on it near the end of the intolerably long circus case.

What's with the circus case hate?
I loved the music, the defendant
Maximilion Galactica
constantly saying
FABULOUS
while throwing playing cards towards the screen and featuring one of the most genious characters of the series,
Benjamin Woodman and Trilo Quist.

I guess it depends on what type of gamer you are. I have a lot of games I want to play, so when a game starts to bore/tire me out, I decide its time to move on as I have more games that I want to play than time to play them.

Also... you probably have a lot of time to play games lol. The whole series in a month!?! I think I played through AA1 and half of AA2 over the course of like 3 months. And that was when I was unemployed!

I looked at my 3DS log and I was off. I started AA1 on August 10th and finished AAI on October 21st. So yeah, I'm not that crazy.

Don't skip AA3. AA3 is the best AA game (I haven't played AA5 yet).
Also, don't forget that AA4 is connected to AA5.

Yeah you are right on that one. I was really surprised to see that Dual Destinies is more a visual novel than it's predecessors, especially due to the lack of exploration. And that was just something I really, really loved in the original trilogy, searching every nook and cranny and hearing some funny comments and small talk.
I miss some of that small talk, sure, (even though clicking everything could be a bit tedious at times) but I think the bigger issue is that they never let go of the handholding in cross-examinations and spell out almost every contradiction for you. There's very little thinking required by the player. Hell, the tutorial case of AA1 is probably more challenging than the entirety of AA5.

So... about Dual destinies.

What would be the best time to buy the DLC and play that case?

Some people say after case 3 is that true?

But the thing is I only have finished the first game, and I'm currently on the last case of AA2. I could maybe power-through AA3, but I want to move to A5 so bad. I guess those gorgeous 3D models spoiled me.

Would you guys recommend to be patient and play the trilogy first, or can I just wrap-up AA2 and immediately move to AA5? If it is a series that needs to be played in order and all stories are connected, then I guess I have no other choice. But if there are only some small references to past games in AA5, then I would love to play that ASAP.

What do you say GAF?

Absolutely play through the original trilogy + Apollo Justice first, without question. You'll regret it otherwise.

Play AA3, you'll enjoy it a ton and possibly more than AA5. AA4 you might want to read up on if you choose to skip it, and AAI isn't necessary to enjoy AA5.

AA3 is obligatory. Avoid playing AA5 before it because it will spoil you with the gorgeous 3D models and dialog history.

But, ironically, AA5 contains more references to AA4 than the original trilogy, being a direct sequel and all, so you might at least wiki that one. I'd recommend playing it, because there's no such thing as a bad AA game.

I'm waiting for a ~50% sale on AA5 to bite.

It's a digital release so I sure as hell won't pay for it more than I did for any ace attorney game before. (although I think I would consider paying full price in excess of the actual virtual price if it was on stores and featured some CE extras)

But I want to play it, bad.

So the PW games are available for download in the US e-shop, but not EU? I want to get 3 and 4, but I can't find them on the store. I'm currently looking at €47 for 3+4 on Amazon.uk, plus shipping. Seeing as T&T goes for €30 on ebay, that's probably an ok deal? If someone could point me to a cheaper solution, that'd be great.

I already have 1 and 2 and plan to replay these, then move on to the rest.

Does the eStore ever have sales? I've never seen one on 3DS titles.

For maximum enjoyment of AA5 all previous games should be played because there are a lot of awesome cameos.

Also, AA3 is not only the best game in the series but one of the best games ever made, period.

I am currently in the middle of playing the final case of T&T but to be honest nothing has topped the Matt Engarde case of JFA for me. Hopefully there is solid twist at the end. (I am guessing there is).

The third game is the best in the series and just really damn spectacular all around. You'd be doing yourself a major disservice if you skipped it.

Skipping AA3 is a crime against video gaming in general.

JFA last case is great (despite it having one massive plot hole), but that's the only thing that really make the game worth. Trial and Tribulation on the other hand consistent throughout all the case. Great pacing and building of the story that make it really deliver when the moment came. All of that presented with the most excellent soundtrack that nothing have yet to topped by any new game in the series, for the music really build up the theme and the atmosphere to come together. This is what make Trial and Tribulation the best AA game that nothing new in the series will ever topped it, since such perfection is near impossible to surpass (and a reason why Shu Takumi want to start the series fresh with Apollo Justice, much to Capcom disaproval).

Yeah, the denouement of Trials & Tribulations is just fantastic.

Not playing Trials and Tribulations is sinful and I'd probably ask you for your gamer card back if you skipped it.

I haven't had a puzzle/VN game grip me like that since Zero Escape. AA3 is masterful.

Oh. And Godot. He can summon coffee from thin air. No one will ever be as cool.

Yeah, that's where it'd be chronologically. I wouldn't save it for after the final case, because it's not as good as the final case. Finish on a high note, you know?

I'm certain it takes place chronologically after case 2.

And it seems many people enjoyed the DLC case just as much, if not more, than the final case, so I wouldn't agree with this.

Play them in order. This is not hard. They are all great games - even the worst ones in the series are worth playing if you like the first game.

From purely gameplay perspective, AA5 is the worst of the series. The game doesn't really challenge you in any meaningful way, it always tells you where to go, and when it's time to move the investigation to a new location. Too many times it also hints directly what items to present in the court. The game is is still enjoyable, other than maybe the annoying second case, but you really shouldn't skip any previous games just so you could get to it faster...

I don't know why you would want to skip the best game in the series so you could play one of the average entries.

Meh screw it, I didn't find any cheaper alternatives. Too bad these games aren't available to download on the e-shop. I bought 3 and 4 off Amazon. I'll have to replay 1 and 2 first to refresh my memory. I'm actually considering a Phoenix-athon now, closing off with Dual Destinies.

not a lot of them, but some items drop from time to time... I remember smt4 virtual release was on sale around christmas for US costumers.

I remember, because it's not out in europe yet *waves fist*

Yeah, don't skip 3, it's incredible. I have only played the initial trilogy and all the games are great.

AA2 felt a bit worse because the music wasn't as good and because it didn't have a big storyline like AA1 and AA2 did but it was still cool and introduced some great characters (Pearls is the best). I loved the 2nd and 4th cases in AA2, they had cool twists.

Took a long time, but I finally finished PW2. I loved it.

People say PW3 is the best of 'Em all? I'm so excited to start it.

I've just gotten Ghost Trick and I want to start the Ace Attorney series but, why are the DS games so costly? Even on Amazon it's like $20+ for each one. I could just get them on WiiWare but ewww digital.
