I would like a Crash Bandicoot level editor

Well, not for me. I never liked Crash. Not sure why the hell people think it was any good. I guess these people didn't have a Nintendo machine in those days.

I loved Crash and Mario, with Crash I always enjoyed how the gameplay would switch up between levels so often, you never really knew what to expect.

But more than anything I found it more fun to play with friends, the gameplay was more twitchy so getting towards the end of a level, everything felt super tense which was a lot of fun with a bunch of hysterical friends.

I don't care if they do. I don't really care that much about Mario games as much as I used to. Still play them sometimes. It is more that people claim Crash was the pinnacle of platforming games even though they haven't played it in a long time.

Would you mind pointing out these individuals?

I would be absolutely astounded if Sony spent time and money bringing this mascot back. I don't know if this is a Battletoads situation... that property at least had some pop culture relevance over the past few years.

That's the other thing, if you search Crash Bandicoot Remake etc. in Google Trends, you'll see that it's relevance has only risen in the last few years as opposed to FF7 remake which had been consistent for over a decade. It feels like someone suggested it a couple years ago and now people are going absolutely mad for the idea of their next hit of nostalgia.

Out of curiosity, which Mario games have you played?

SMB 1-3, SMW, Yoshi's Island, Mario 64, Mario Sunshine, NSMB and very briefly the first Galaxy. SMB 1-3 are fine games (especially SMB 3) and what I played of Galaxy was awesome, the rest were meh to me. Never been a huge Mario fan, vastly preferred the old 8-bit and 16-bit Sonic games.

Edit: I played Super Mario Land 1-3 also ages ago.

Level creator is fine I just can't get into them if that is the primary focus, like Little Big Planet.

Gimme a full set of professionally crafted levels to enjoy, and I'll play a few user-created levels on the side for shits and giggles.

I never said Crash wasn't fun or couldn't be fun with a level creator. I just don't think Crash is coming back.

Even if Crash doesn't come back by Sony, there certainly has been enough buzz and energy around the franchise for the last couple of years for Activision to evaluate a potential new entry.

Personally, i'm hoping the two have worked out a deal, though i won't be too disappointed if the franchise stays dead. I'm just a bit desperate for 3D platformers.

Pretty much.
They can do the whole 'Crash Bandicoot Maker' mode, as long as they put a fully crafter SP in there too.

Unless it's excitebike esque where you can just place pre-set assets in an order of the players choosing this would be an awful solution since very few players would be able to make functioning 3d levels, especially with Crash's gameplay engine.

Always good to see so many people oblivious to the fact that Crash Bandicoot sells to this day on PSN.

But please, keep up the "do people still like this series?" talk. Looking forward to see it return in the next CB thread.

I did and it was called SNES and the Mario game on it was my first platformer back in the day

bought PS1 after that just for Crash and loved it more and never cared about Nintendo again until Bayonetta 2.....

Where he hell were all these Crash fans 20 years ago? 10 years ago?

If we're going all in on this REMEMBER THE 90s?! Buzz feed nostalgia reboot crap that at the same time people will moan about how we've ran out of ideas and resorted to rebooting and how it will "ruin my childhood " how about something more appealing like Dino Crisis?

Because a mascot bandicoot isn't made to appeal to your ancient 25-45 year old ass and we'll just get the usual OMG They ruined it😭😭😭 because you can't accept that it's aimed at young kids.

Ideally I'd want both options. A simple drag and drop level designer built around a variety of presets/templates eg. Hog Wild level types, sidescroller level type etc.

But also an "advanced mode" that allows a bit more drill down and some custom models, win conditions, enemy behaviors etc.

The key would be allowing people to create custom bosses. Imo that would be very exciting. How many of you that aren't interested in a custom level would actually be curious to try one if it ended with a custom boss encounter?

Why and how do you know when the last time we played a specific game was? Should we be concerned for our privacy around you?

50+ Million Sold to date. 10+ Million of that is Crash 1-3 in their first couple years. PS1's install base was tiny compared to PS4's current one at the same point in its lifespan. Crash fans were everywhere. You're just choosing to ignore it.

A fun game is fun.

True that

In the PS2 days it was the teens and young adults coming off PS1 that wanted "more mature" stuff. The demographic was much narrower at that time, wanting more T and M rated material I think.

Now many of the players from the Crash days are much older and buy stuff like R&C reboot and other stuff.

I think most people have grown out of this silly narrative of "for kids" or "for adults" finally, which is good. A fun game is fun.

Plus there's a whole new generation of young kids that can be exposed to R&C and maybe Crash now too. Lots of parents and young adults who were kids in the PS1 era now buying consoles for their own kids or smaller cousins/siblings.

The market for games is maturing! :)

Yeah, it reminds me of the Legend of Dragoon sequel/remake talk over the past few years.

Can't wait for a new crash game to finally come out and underperform so people can stop asking for it.

The new Ratchet and Clank game performed extremely well without a huge amount of marketing and a failed move tie in. I think the market is wide open for a Crash revival, arguable the bigger of the two franchises.

Regarding a level editor for a 3D platformer, what kind of safeguards will need to be put into place to ensure that the user will not create a level that will tank the performance of the game?

Doom's a game that came out recently and has a level editor, but the difference between what you can create and what is done in the main game is enormous.

I'm not exactly on the level editor train but Crash games have been pretty linear in the past and don't really feature any advanced physics ect. unlike LBP for example.

I'm not really excited for a new Crash game, but why would you want it to under perform? Wouldn't it be great for everybody if the game was good and did well?

Ratchet and Clank fanbase doesn't make a new Ratchet thread every day clamoring for a new Ratchet too.

But... they haven't granted Crash a big return.

Not officially, but you can't deny Sony have been making a big noise about Crash these past months. There are countless rumours and nods to him returning as of late, and it all comes back to Sony, not Activision. Activision may still holds the rights to the IP when the news comes out, but I doubt it's them who have been so enthusiastic to see Crash return.

I will NEVER understand the "I don't like this thing, so no matter how many other people do, I hope it does poorly and goes away, because I for some reason am personally offended by its success" shtick that some people take on. It's as if people don't realize that they can simply not purchase the game. There are thousands of games out there. There are games for every type of gamer.

I also get a kick out of "Crash was never popular" revisionists, due to the sales figures I cited above.

i somehow read the title as 'Clash Royale naysayers'

where's my glasses

(Crash is average, but I always looooved ingame editors, so it might sway me)

I played the original Crash games and liked them well enough as a kid, but especially after playing the first stage in UC4 I'm a naysayer

The UC4 has completely weird animations ect., is based on the ''worst'' of the series and is played on a tiny screen.

I would at least ask for you to not judge it by UC4 and give a little RTTP action with Crash 2 for example.

Yeah I went a bit overboard with colors, lol. I hope to get a better grasp on color usage as I learn more about pixel art.

no worries m8, i actually dig the LSD look.
what does your game offer that MM does not? looks like a clone so far in terms of design and functionality.
