Fuck Löw
Probably because a lot of people have no fucking clue what this is and who these people are.
But feel free to enlighten them.

Okay, two shots:

Gilles Villeneuve - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilles_Villeneuve

1979-dutch-gp-gilles-villeneuve-ferrari-312t4_zps7c8fc9a7.jpg

This shot sums up the man, flat out at all costs. Had a puncture and instead of coasting back to the pits or retiring he kept it pinned all the way back to the pitlane

Michael Dunlop - Now this isn't a particularly stunning shot unless you know the story, Michael's dad had been killed two days prior at the same race meeting. Michael decided to race and eventually won reducing most people around to tears, watched this live on tv and it was hard not to get emotional - http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/motorbikes/7406242.stm

Schalke heartbreak

That sucked so much.

Wooooo, Bayern got their five billionth Meisterschaft, what a special moment. A Schalke championship would've been so much better for the sport as a whole.

Seriously, the whole league system in European soccer should be remade completely, including salary caps et cetera.

But I guess that's not the point of the thread.

18-1 will never escape my mind

That fucking play lol :(
First no one can sack Eli or grab his jersey
Then a no name bench game named David Tyree catches the biggest jump ball on his helmet

I'm still mad

It's Mario Balotelli celebrating a goal as only he can.
He's probably one of the most famous/recognisable footballers in the world for all his antics.

kaoklai-mo.jpg

On December 4, 2004, Kaoklai was the youngest and the lightest fighter ever to compete in the 12th annual K-1 World GP Championships, held in Tokyo Dome, Japan. His opponent, American slugger Mighty Mo, the winner of Las Vegas GP, was the heaviest at 280 lb (130 kg). Kaoklai started the fight cautiously circling the American, tossing in hard low kicks. At the end of the first round Kaoklai landed a lightning-quick jumping high kick which connected just below Mo's left ear and sent Kaoklai to the semifinals.

I will never forget this kockout.

I know who it is and what that moment was. It's just borderline idiotic to assume people have the same knowledge ,interests and memories that you have. That goes for every image without text. Even the true iconic ones.

Great, you've posted three photos of tennis player Boris Becker playing tennis.

Have you not seen people asking for text with photo contributions?

No, I didn't see that. Half of the pictures posted here are without any text. So what do you talking about?

Seriously Bro?

John Sattler of the South Sydney Rabbitohs, carried off the field on the shoulders of his team mates after leading his team to victory and winnng the Pemiership for 1970. He did this despite being punched and having his jaw broken early in the game.

Can't relate to any NFL, NHL or MLB pictures at all. Probably the same feeling Americans have when seeing iconic football pictures. Oh well.

My personal favourite Crows photo would have to be Darren Jarman the moment the Crows won the premiership in 1997. I don't think there's ever been a better sporting moment or ever will be in my lifetime.

Same for me, but for the team across town

some of my favorites.

The best part of Hank Aaron breaking Babe Ruth's HR record was Vin Scully's play-by-play of it:

"What a marvelous moment for baseball. What a marvelous moment for Atlanta and the state of Georgia. What a marvelous moment for the country and the world. A black man is getting a standing ovation in the Deep South for breaking a record of an all-time baseball idol. And it is a great moment for all of us, and particularly for Henry Aaron..."

I also loved that after Aaron hit the HR Scully didn't say anything for almost 2 minutes before starting what I quoted.

And 40 years later Scully is still far and away the best in the business.

A lot of Spurs fans should recognize this one:

Context for those who don't know.
The play

Portland, who narrowly lost Game 1, emphatically outplayed the Spurs in the first half of Game 2. In the third, Portland increased its lead to 18 before the Spurs went on a 9–2 run. Blazers coach Mike Dunleavy called time to break their momentum, but the Spurs continued their run, scoring 8 unanswered to make it 54–51 and force Dunleavy to call another timeout. Stacey Augmon hit 2 free throws with 4:15 left in the quarter to finally end the Spurs' run.

The momentum went back and forth until Damon Stoudamire was fouled with 12 seconds left in the fourth. He hit 1 of 2 free throws to make it 85–83. The Spurs called time to advance to halfcourt. Following the time-out, Spurs guard Mario Elie inbounded the ball past a diving Augmon to forward Sean Elliott.

Elliott, who privately battled an ailment that required kidney transplant surgery, caught the inbounds pass near the sideline. He stayed on his toes while turning to shoot a 3, careful not to set his heels down and turn it over. With Rasheed Wallace running at him trying to block the shot, he arced it over his outstretched hand and in with 9 seconds left to give the Spurs an 86–85 lead, their first. Time expired after Portland failed to score, and the Spurs' only lead was the final score.
Significance

The "Miracle" designation relates to the combination of circumstances involved:

Elliott played with a serious kidney condition and would likely have not been involved in the game had he gone through with the transplant surgery sooner.
The Spurs trailed by 18 (52–34) in the third; more often than not, a lead that big that late holds up in a playoff game.
The Spurs' last play succeeded despite a near steal by Augmon, a near block by Wallace and a near turnover (Elliott shot the ball with his heels over the sideline).

Aftermath

The Spurs won the last two in Portland for a four game sweep, then defeated the New York Knicks in the 1999 NBA Finals 4 games to 1 to win their first NBA Title.

Some more shameless fanboyism and life-longer team promotion:

September 25, 2006, the first game back in the Superdome post-Katrina (and I was there!): Steve Gleason blocks a Falcons punt by kicker Michael Koenen to be recovered by Curtis DeLoach in the endzone for a touchdown. When I tell you I have never heard a louder more incensed crowd in all my life. Reverberates in my mind to this day. The use as a symbol of New Orleans' rebirth is no joke, and I can personally attest to that. It's become even more poignant, since Gleason has since been diagnosed with ALS. Gleason has been a staunch supporter of the city and ALS research and care over the past few years, and just this past season he was commemorated with this statue on the outside Superdome plaza.

EDIT: And a shot of Gleason himself 2 years ago after first learning of his diagnosis and announcing it to the city at large. The game that day was played in his honor.

And of course:

Tracy Porter intercepts Peyton Manning (brilliantly caught on his ass in the background) for a 72-yard touchdown in the 3rd quarter of Superbowl XLIV to essentially seal the win in the Saints' first ever appearance in the Superbowl in the franchise's 44 year history. There were tears in the eyes of friends and family members who'd all gathered at my parents' place to watch this game. Afterwards we just hopped in the car and drove around the city, hanging out the windows and honking like mad on our way to the black and gold shop to get our New Orleans Saints Superbowl Champions shirts, caps, fotballs, cups, and whatever else we had to to convince ourselves that what we just saw had really happened. Downtown on Canal St. and in the quarter was just sheer pandemonium (and yet not a single fatality, injury, or even arrest that night). Not a single dry eye in the place. I've never seen a city so uniformly overjoyed. I imagine it must have been what V-Day was like back in the day.
