This is the main reason I thought it was I.D over the years. Plus if it's an abbreviation for something that's typically how you say the name as each letter has its own separate value.

iam from germany, and in the 90s i never knew it better so i pronounced sonic the hedgehog in the weirdest way possible. since no one of us kids knew english, everyone was wondering what this word even means.

on tv there was sonic der igel(german word for hedgehog) so we thought maybe the original word means something more awesome (i didnt even know that sonic was a hedgehog to begin with, since NOTHING LOOKS LIKE A HEDGEHOG ON FUCKING SONIC)

so yea, "misspelled" id games(in the german way), then when i was a teenager and able to speak english i said I D games
and when i was 22 or something i found out, that IT WAS ACTUALLY RIGHT.

My point is, shoryuken contains 'Ryu' in it. Yet people say Ryu wrong and still say shoryuken somewhat correctly. It's literally sho-ryu-ken.
