Idea Factory and Sting form... Super Sting

I can't for the life of me remember anything Idea Factory has ever done....
The meeting probably went like this
Exec A : We need to merge IdeaF with Sting
Exec B : Yeah but why?
Exec A : Let's be fair it's all to give Sting more people to finish their products, a kind of Super Sting if you will
Exec B : Hey, that's a catchy name!

So because I have never really played RPGs I am the only one thinking about this guy:

Hopefully Sting is using this as an opportunity to leverage Idea Factory's art assets rather than turn their games into poorly coded, grindy fanservice like most/all of IF's stuff.

Eewww, what is Sting doing with those shmucks? :( Actually, some of the garbage Sting produces fits right into IFs lineup, but what about Ito. :(

At least Super Sting is a dumb enough name to make me laugh.

Boy was Siliconera's Idea Factory Defense Force out in force about this.
(I fear for society when that is a real thing.)

.

I love what Sting did with the GBA and DS and their non-Dept. Heaven games were usually on the decent side of mediocre.

There's an Idea Factory Defense Force? How? WHY?

Read their comments. They have a VERY vocal group of people who, for some incomprehensible reason, feel obligated to defend them at any opportunity.

If they get some new creative heads, make some new IP's, and take the time to actually finish their ideas (including game balance) then this might not be so bad.

I think a lot of GAF has the wrong impression of Idea Factory based just on the Compile Heart games. IF is a rather large publisher with a bunch of games in a lot of different genres - most of which we never hear about in the US because visual novels and dating games just don't get localizations.

Personally, I really liked the Generation of Chaos games. I think they are, like, amazing. GoC, for example, is basically a cross between Dragon Force and Dokapon Kingdom, but the English localization suffered greatly from every menu command being a 3 letter acronym, making the game almost impenetrable. But get into the game, and there is so, so much there to enjoy (I would double dip if it went up on PSN, since Aedis Eclipse loses all slowdown when played on a Vita).

I was interested in those games, but I really didn't like what I saw. Still, I was willing to write those off as 'just not my thing', unlike their recent output, which I actively loathe. (Excluding Hakuoki.)

Wrong. People were aware of Ideaf's horrible games long before they created their Compile Heart offshoot brand. In fact, some people still aren't aware the two are linked, and still have a strong opinion about Ideaf.

Why else do you think they keep on trying to create different labels for themselves? There's always a new easily-swayed gamer every minute who will be decieved by pretty characters and box art and a random dev name.

Yeah, this. I've hated Idea Factory for years. I can't even remember which game it was that started the hate...most assuredly it was terrible, though.

This is the only Super Sting that I recognize.

A 3DS or PSV SRPG would be nice.

^ First thing I thought of when I saw the title.

Really? That's something I've never heard about the company before; I had gotten the impression from comments on a handful of sites that Idea Factory was just a middling developer, and the Neptunia games didn't do much to change that assumption. Interesting stuff.

Man, I wish someone would rip off Sting's old 80's gimmick a bit and update it. I miss face paint wrestlers like Sting, Ultimate Warrior, Demolition and The Legion of Doom/Road Warriors.

What didn't you like about them? Though I agree with you on the recent stuff. Seems I only like the GoC games. But it's enough for me to say IF isn't all bad without feeling ashamed or apologizing for it.

I was under the impression that the Compile Heart group is made up of ex-Compile (the Puyo-Puyo guys) designers. It's like the second coming of Compile or something. The Neverland label is just for the Neverland universe games. Not sure how they are purposely creating labels to hide their name.

IF does have a reputation, even in Japan, but it does have a cult fanbase - certainly a big enough one to keep the publisher in business. I see IF like Nippon Ichi or Gust. They make niche games. If you like the niche they make games in, you are taken care of. But IF is also like Akitoshi Kawazu and Sting in that they make complicated games with unexplained game systems that require a huge learning curve before you even remotely begin to start enjoying yourself (I don't usually have the patience). In that way, I guess IF and Sting are the perfect match.

Just seemed a poor man's Dragon Force, and I love Dragon Force.

As for Compile Heart, I think that came from their collaborations with RED.
(Another tragic loss.)

Compile Heart was indeed started by Moo Niitani but I think he left (and retired?) less than a year later.

It's a shame that Compile's name and iconic logo have been reduced to, well, what they're doing now.

Now when Idea Factory made a game we can not say it is developed by "Idea Fuck" anymore. We need a new nickname for Super Sting.

So this is just a brand name? The games themselves will still be developed independently by each company? I don't understand the point of this.

I'm not sure what it exactly implies. There aren't a lot of details right now. We might find out more next week, when there's actually a game.

What did Idea Factory make that makes everyone act like they murdered their family or first-born?
They make a lot of niche SRPGs that tend to be grindy, obtuse, and occasionally, poorly coded - some of them being very "moe" or sexually provocative. I'm not sure what games in particular people take offense to, but it's probably one of these:

Spectral Force 3
Cross Edge
Record of the Agarest War
Hyperdimension Neptunia

Hm. PSP? Toss it in with Gungnir and Growlanser for the last few PSP releases? C'mon NISA!

Did you not *see* the 'super'? It's a *clear* upgrade.

Hopefully they can rope someone else in (Nippon Ichi?) so they can become Super Duper Sting.

They'll add NIS, Imageepoch, and Gust and the end of the world shall be on the horizon.

Hmm, I was really hating the idea of Sting joining up with Idea Factory since I don't like them. But to see them collab on Generation of Chaos, it definitely does make me interested.

I reckon Idea Factory being touted as the better company on here has more to do with the wider availability of their games as opposed to them actually being better than Sting's.

What? Its more the other way, people regard Sting as the better company.

As in matter of fact, I don't ever remember hearing anything positive or neutral about Idea Factory...
