I dunno man. I tried playing MG1 back when I first got Subsistence and urgh.

MG2 is actually still playable and a really cool game though. It was fascinating to play and realize how much was pioneered in that game, so many things that I just assumed had been added by MGS1.

MGS1's story synopsis does the job just fine so if you just wanna jump into MGS that's quite fine.

the meat of the series is in the solid era, don't burn out playing the 2d games

Hey guys,

Having never played any MGS games, I thought it was about time after all the awesome things I've heard. So I'll grab the MGS Legacy Collection tomorrow. Just wanted to know the ideal play order. Should I play Metal Gear 1+2 before MGS1?, etc, etc. Cheers!

MG2:SS is the best of the series, definitely give it a shot.
Its basically the prototype to MGS1 but better in alot of ways.

Playing 4 is so fuckin pointless if you haven't played all the previous Solid games.

1, 2 ,3, 4 is the way to go.

Why? Because there are story bits that will be revealed in the recent games even though its timeline is set in the past.

In my opinion, mgs1 then mgs2, the others are forgettable.

MGS2, the pinnacle of the series, rich with chillingly prophetic storylines and themes
MGS3, a really cool cold-war action-thriller

Don't expect too much from MGS4 when you get to it. In fact, I like to pretend MGS4's story never happened.

If you still want more after that you can always play MG and MG2.

I often get asked "which title one should play if haven't done MGS series?". Play MGS3 as control is more modern, if you liked it then MGS4.

But if you followed this you would miss out on the best Metal Gear.
