Idiot kills himself taking a selfie

So where did the guy actually get the gun from?

Police said he had borrowed the gun and was waving it around while trying to snap a photo.

It shouldn't be that "easy" to borrow one.

You can't because you still have to treat it like it's loaded.

There's no question the premise for the type of picture in question was dumb in the first place. Certainly unadvisable. But if someone not bent on suicide was gonna do it anyway because they were a dumb young person (as many of us were), it would be ideal to unload the weapon.

There's 7 billion people on this planet. If people die because they point a gun at themselves I don't see why the hell anyone should care.

Now if someone isn't good at math and science and dies in a car crash, then yes they get some sympathy.

I don't see how the number of people on Earth matter. The guy died doing something very stupid. I guess I get nothing out of getting into a group and conversing about how undeserving of sympathy he is. To be honest, I feel like a lot of people do it because it makes them feel a little better about themselves.

this was bound to happen.

Waste of life.

Dude was so lucky he only got a kick.

Something is very wrong if you're standing at kicking distance from a moving train.

To be fair, he doesn't have any fingers anywhere near the trigger.

finger doesn't need to be in trigger well for a firearm to discharge. you don't want sneeze while you've got a barrel pointed at yourself

safety be damned

Triggers don't pull themselves. I agree that it was still incredibly stupid. Just saying he atleast had the sense to not have his finger on the trigger.

"It wasn't on the trigger" is definitely different than "he doesn't have any fingers anywhere near the trigger."

There's no way to enforce that. Someone can be perfectly sane the day they purchase a firearm and 10 years later they can be mentally unstable. People change because their circumstances change. In this case I think it was intentional anyways.

It's a touchy thing. Like, if mental checks were once a year for gun owners, maybe they'd feel discriminated that they're thought of being a hair trigger away from losing it. You can't control what a person does a decade away, so it's still best to be safe and have mental health check-ups.

Yeah, I think selfie's are dumb, but one of the worst things ever?

because it is dumb as fuck and serves no other purpose than fro attention whores and narcissistic people to go "FUCKING LOOK AT ME DO THING AND GIVE ME ATTENTION" and then people go out and get kicked for being too close to trains or kill themselves trying to take pictures of themselves

Those poor gun owners. Can't hurt their feelings to make sure they don't snap with an actual weapon.

Yeah... probably an accident. No need to hate on the guy for the mistake that killed him. Thread is in poor taste, imo.

man please

saying the narcisstic culture irritates you (that is NOT new at all btw) is one thing but attaching it to people injured/dying while doing it is just flatout stupid. what do you think the selfie:injury ratio is? i bet its staggering

So what you are saying is that it is one of the worst things because people are taking photographs of themselves and sharing it with other people with the goal to spread more attention directed towards them? That doesn't really seem like anything that terrible or new even. Hell, people used to pay fortunes to have themselves painted while sitting days in front of an expensive artist to craft their selfie.

Well I think there's a difference between extreme radical "look at me while I am doing risky stupid shit" selfie culture and regular "hey look at me" selfie culture.

By enacting an annual mental health checkup policy, one would probably incite a civil war lol. Gun owner culture would not have any of that. That definitely goes beyond better initial background checks.

Isn't it presumptuous to think gun owners are that short-tempered to start a civil war over some check-ups? I'm sure they have good emotional regulation or they shouldn't be owning a gun in the first place. We are not poking around their head, just some questionnaires and tests for mental aptitude. Owning a gun should be a big life decision, it's to be taken seriously like many things (home owning, car owning, marriage, will, etc).

No shit? Well damn here I thought I stumbled on something new to be irritable about and now you tell me it's not a new thing.

And it doesn't mean I can't get annoyed or not feel sympathy for people doing stupid shit. And why can't I attach it to people killing themselves? If they were trying to get a "cool" picture of them doing something stupid and SURPRISE they kill or injure themselves in the process, then yes, I consider that apart of the stupid "selfie-culture".

Yes but we never got 103808348x portraits of person doing x every goddamned day.

.

There is but one is a direct result of the other so...

I wouldn't call him an idiot, because it's disrespectful, but why would you not put the safety on or take out the bullets out (depending on the type of gun).

If you don't know about safety locks, you shouldn't be holding a gun.

It's like he went from 2D to 3D.

Kid looks like a wannabe narco.

Taking selfies isn't bad. I take selfies once in a while and post them on Instagram. It just depends on the person and how stupid they are that they risk their life for a fucking picture. People do stupid things for stupid reasons all the time.

If there's a Republican president at the time, it could possibly be smoothed over. There would be backlash. Maybe it could work though. A Democrat trying to do that? Hillary in particular? Welp...at that point you're dealing with years of pent up repugnance. Maybe not a full blown civil war but some people would be killed.

I think it's more presumptuous to assume all gun owners act the same as if they all share the same mind and behave alike. Personally, I am naturally skeptical of another group of humans that actively work to remove my basic tool of self defense. You should be too, because that same group may give you a test one day to assess your aptitude to vote, get married, be a father, ect, ect, ect. Like you said, these are all major life decisions- do you not have the ability to assess yourself?

This reminds me of the episode of homicide hunter, I was watching. Two brothers going around shooting signs in a car. One of them said there were no bullets left in the gun and the other one after that jokingly pretended to pull the trigger at him. But sadly there was a bullet and the brother died instantly

So yeah don't play with guns.

BUT FIRST LET ME TAKE A

SHUT THE FUCK UP!

Sigh... feel bad for the guy's family, but damn he kind of did himself in so can't really.
