If I ever got crazy rich, I'd pay to have a mansion built, and tell the architects to put in secret rooms that would have varying levels of difficulty to find/get into, and then I would spend the rest of my life trying to get them all.

See, I am weird. I've been poor my whole life, often went hungry, etc, but if I win the lottery, I wouldn't over spend. I would still look at stuff like 'do I really need this?' I'd buy a house (nothing huge, no pool, pools suck to maintain, maaaybe with a play room for the kids cause that's cool), replace my broken van, pay off the debt of me and my family, and make sure my kids got a good education. Maybe a new computer since mine is failing.

Giving every member 100 bucks would take 10 Million, so that would deplete any lottery winnings to do it that way. Maybe 10 bucks a person would be nice, everyone can use an extra 10 bucks.

We should take that money, and invest it into children without certain opportunities. We could sponsor some children, and make points offa their success in the future.
Its like a retirement plan.
We could teach inner city kids;
1. Computers.
2. Web Development.
3. Maths
4. Visual Effects
5. Game development.

If I ever get a good job, I was going to host a GAF party at some lodge in a city most GAFfers live in (probably New York) and sponsor the whole thing. Maybe hold a fundraiser for even more kick ass servers and cool contests like what we used to have.

Gromph is still investigating solutions for the remaining problems. My hands are tied. I've thrown money at server infrastructure to the point where IT gaffers have characterized me as insane. We have really, really robust hardware that I just had upgraded again a week ago. We're also being hit with DDoS attacks on a daily basis.
You have no idea what the financial situation is. Costs have increased tremendously over the last year while revenue has simultaneously declined sharply. It's always a matter of finding sustainable solutions.
NeoGAF is not operated by a big corporation, as most sites are when they're this size. The site's important and valuable, but as a strategic asset, not because of its revenue.

I work for a firm that handles very high profile stuff, and we don't get DDoS in that volume. Neither do our clients.

That sucks to hear
. I'm certainly not of the opinion that you should open your balance sheet to the public but the amount of misinformation about gaf's incomings and outgoings means that people aren't even aware of the above.

OP, instead of giving 1 million to GAF members in cash, it would be awesome if you set up a thread where you bought every person 1 game of their choosing. That would be a lot more memorable and fun IMO.
It's good that you say things like this, because on my uninformed side, I get a lot of errors and wonder "What the hell, GAF?" It would be cool if you had a little blog series talking about what's going on with GAF behind the scenes. I know I'd read it.
Probably a lot of jealous persons trying to start a successful forum... or banned users.
