If Microsoft were to make a crossover fighter...

Here's a roster that includes one character per game. It's a bit old so it doesn't include Ryse, Titanfall, Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, Phantom Dust, etc.

.

That... ehm, I... I would actually buy this? Seriously. Add Marius, Titanfall Pilot and some more and that is a decent list of characters. Same goes for stages: Spiral Mountain, Agency Tower, Lab from Splosion Man, Great Mighty Poo stage, Bright Falls, Pinata Garden, Time Shifting Stage, Roman Colosseum, etc...

While the lineup wouldn't be as spectacular as Smash Bros (hard to compete with Nintendo when it comes to mascots), I think they could pull off something decent. I'm a huge Rare fan, so I'd welcome any game that includes their characters/

Characters From Microsoft Owned IPs:
-Master Chief
-Marcus Phoenix
-Fable Hero
-Crackdown Agent
-Banjo
-Conker
-Kameo
-Joanna Dark
-Orchid
-Horsetachio
-Splosion Man
-Ms. Splosion man
-The Maw
-Gun Stringer
-Voodoo Vince
-Blinx
-Jack Joyce
-Max (Max Curse of Brotherhood)

Characters From Microsoft Published games
-Commander Shepard
-Marius
-Alan Wake
-Dawn Star (Jade Empire)

Third Party
-Sam Fisher
-Frank West
-Sarah (Titanfall)

I was trying to do one character per IP, so you could probably add others. Rare's characters also lets you have a decent amount of female characters too.

Too OP?

RRoD has it beat.

Oh, and one of the characters from Crackdown, if they haven't been mentioned already. Like one of the agents.

Non-exclusive characters:
Vanquish guy
Eddie Riggs (Brutal Legend)

And yeah, someone mentioned Horstachio, but fuck if you're leaving out Franklin:

I think these type of games are a terrible idea, but...

you left out all the bad guys not to mention Theresa from Fable. I mean she's only been in every single Fable game.

You guys act like Smash characters were recognizable. Hell when the 64 version came out I was introduced to half the cast. Obscurity is good imo.

While I think Nintendo and Sony have a stronger library of characters, a Microsoft-fighter has TONS of potential with its roster. From Microsoft-made IP; you have a lot of characters from X-Box exclusives and original IP such as lots of Sega characters (JSRF, Panzer Dragoon, Shenmue), Bioware characters (Knights of the Old Republic 1/2, Jade Empire) and characters like Vudo Vince and....um Blinks?

I'm not really that attached to Microsoft's IP (as I can't really see how Master Chef and Marcus could be interesting fighters, as all they have is different guns, but PSAS WAS able to make Nathan Drake, Emit Graves, Redic and other gun users fun, so who knows) but I would be the most excited due to Rare characters being in this. Banjo & Kazooie, Conker, Joanna Dark, Kemio, a Viva Pinata, TONS of Killer Instinct characters, JFG characters and tons more could be in this and have their chance to shine again after being dormant for so lone :).

Even then, I could see Microsoft having lots of indie developers lend their characters over for this (due to their start with XBLA) such as Super Meat Boy, Bastion, the main character from Braid, Gomez from Fez, the ship from Geometry Wars, the Castle Crashers, Aein Hommided (I'm sure that got a XBLA port at some point...) and tons more.

The biggest issue I would have is, HOW are all these characters and franchises are going to fit in this? That was one of the biggest issues with PSAS (with their being no 'general' artstyle for the characters) and even then, most of Microsofts IP's are violent characters (sure Sony has them too but they are even out with many platforming mascots and much of the PS1/PS2 characters), so having say Banjo fight Master Chief may look odd to say the least...

Either way, this would be really cool to see and would be a perfect game for the X1; make this with TONS of characters from the ENTIRE Microsoft IP history and see what works :).

Would buy. No questions asked.

i remember hearing this about PS All Stars alot.. it ended up bombing.

The odds of the same things happening for a potential MS fighter is pretty big considering they have even less really memorable characters to choose from.

WTF, you guys?!? How has this gone this far without anyone mentioning Stubbs the Zombie? You have Blinx and the dumb kid from Grabbed By The Ghoulies, but no love for Stubbs?!? Come on, now!

stubbs.jpg

Stubbs am sad.

MAN!, I completely forgot about that guy :(. I loved what I saw of the game a few years ago and it was such an original concept (what game lets you play as a zombie and control an ARMY of them?!?). If this hypothetical party game would happen, Stubbs HAS to be in it :).

Master Chief probably wouldn't be too difficult to make a decent fighter out of.

Nicole_vs_Ryu.jpg

The Dark Queen, Rash, Zits, and Pimple (Battletoads)
Conker, Gregg, and the Panther King (Conker)
Kameo (could be a character like pokemon trainer or Super Skrull)
Joanna Dark, Mr Blonde, and Elvis (Perfect Dark)
Banjo & Kazooie, Gruntilda, and Klungo (Banjo Kazooie)
Horstachio, Pretztail, and Professor Pestor (Viva Pinata)
Chief, Arbiter, and Sarge (Halo)
Marcus Fenix and a Locust enemy (Gears of War)
Hero of Brightwood/Oakvale, Theresa, and Jack of Blades (Fable)
Agent (Crackdown)
Alan Wake and Mr Scratch (Alan Wake/American Nightmare)
Jago, Orchid, and Fullgore (Killer Instinct)
Kaim Argonar, Jansen, and Seth (Lost Oddysey)
Shu, Jiro, and Kluke (Blue Dragon)
Nathan Zachary (Crimson Skies)
Vince (Voodoo Vince)
Blinx (Blinx The Timecat)
A Battlemech (Mechassault)

3rd Party possibles

Marius Titus (Ryse)
Kasumi and Ayane (Dead or Alive)
Ryu Hayabusa and Racheal (Ninja Gaiden)
Geralt (The Witcher)
Frank, Chuck, or Nick (Dead Rising)
Wayne Holden (Lost Planet)
Shepperd, Wrex, and Garrus (Mass Effect)
Sam Fischer (Splinter Cell)
Vayne (Morrowind)
A Titan (Titanfall)

I think That'd be the roster I'd like to see in a game like this. Nothing to obscure aside from Blinx and Vince but their movesets have potential. I also agree with the poster that said more like Anarchy Reigns and less like Smash.

I would LOVE for them to make this. They certainly have a ton of potential characters they could use. However, they already have an exclusive, first party fighting IP in Killer Instinct. I don't know how 2 would work. If they go the SSB route, everyone would slam them and accuse them of copying Nintendo like Sony was when they made PASBR.

at first i looked at the title of the post i thought good joke ..and entered and jesus people some of you take this fucking horrible idea seriously? even calling spencer to take notes?

even sony with a much varied roster of ips and characters got problems with ps all stars and you use things like BLINX come on...what next the brute force guys?

this is a nintendo thing..leave this to them and the smash phenomena

Much like Sony, I don't think MS should make a brawler/fighter

It worked with Nintendo because they were kind of known for their 2D platformers, and SMash Bros does a good job with that

I think if anything, MS would be better suited for an arena shooter of some sort. Like a giant arcade shooter with various stages and key weapons from all of these games

I would be down for that

Rare would probably provide most of the roster if they were to do such a thing, while MS would add the most popular characters from the big franchises they own (Halo, Fable, Gears). Anyone expecting shit like Sneakers (Seriously, did anyone even play that game?) is being delusional.

Nintendo can get away with it due to the legacy, while Sony can due to the variety of what they provide, series wise. It's not that MS doesn't have these qualities, it just it doesn't have enough to make something without poking through the bottom of the barrel.

Lol. Anyone could do this. And if PSAS had gameplay as good as smash we'd all be playing it.

What is wrong with Blinx in a game like this? He's a part of Xbox history and first party owned. He also has potential with a moveset that would be quite unique. Amaterasu and Joe in MvC showed that speedup and slowdown specials could work in a fighting game...if it's a brawler they could be like status effects like pause, slowmo, and reversed controls. These would also work in something like the standard character driven cart racer.

Just because his game series didn't go anywhere doesn't mean the character ceases to become viable in cameo fests like this topic is talking about.

its not only good gameplay its no one cared about any of these characters besides master chief

you seriously asked why its wrong with blinx? maybe its on the land of noonecares? or in the planet of nooneremenbers? these games lives and dies by the memorable characters they choose to draw in

It failed for Sony, and it would fail for MS. There is also no evidence to suggest they have a studio with the skills necessary to make such a game.

Editing my list from the last time.

The entire game includes 4 different game types.

  1. Arena Domination! [3rd person vs-gametype arena shooter]
  2. Stage Fighter! [SSB style 2D fighter]
  3. Racing [a mario kart style game]
  4. Tower Defense [3rd person tower defense style game against all sorts of enemies from across MS's IPs. Elites, Brutes, Sour Pinatas, Locusts, etc. All kinds of crazy mashing together of IPs]
Every one of these would support 8 player multiplayer on a single console (or at least on the stage fighter and racing ones. The other two could have 4 player split screen if necessary).

The point of this is to be a huge ultimate party game for the Xbox One. I'm sure people could get loads of fun from this kind of thing.

More importantly, it would set it off from a pure SSB clone.

Please...the people that would be buying a game like this would likely know who Blinx was. They'd likely laugh at his inclusion but I'm sure he's a bit more recognizable than Popo and Nana were in melee...or lucas from Brawl. He's as obscure a character as Ness was.

I like this idea. Create the base game types, then introduce new characters over time like in Killer Instinct. It would probably need quite a few guest appearances though.

There are a few characters that could work out well sure, but the problem is executing them. A problem that PSASBR suffered was that a LOT of characters played extremely similar, which didn't make things as fun as they could have been. And what I see from some of these lists are characters that wouldn't differ much from each other.

It shouldn't be a 2d fighting game.

I say make it play like Anarchy Reigns. A big, open 3rd person action game would work best for Microsoft's IPs. You could even have characters in mechs like a Titan or even Banjo in a vehicle mech (Banjo would also work well with Kazooie as a gun ala Tooie)

Perhaps something like this as the roster? Last row would be third party characters.

I dont know how I feel about banjo being in the xbox crossover, yet didnt get the chance to be in nintendo's

Could this be made in project spark?

Dude...

I would buy it twice and burry the other copy in my backyard for safekeeping. Seriously though, I would buy this.

I could see them putting Master Chief vs a Forza car over any Rare characters tbh.
Lol. That just sounds ridiculous
ly awesome

This is well thought out. +1

Another vote for arena shooter as a better fit.

Also wouldn't be surprised if they eliminated all E-rated games and mascots from the character pool.

That's kinda the point. And it sucked more for it.

Sony went about it the wrong way. Yes Raiden and Dante are "playstation" characters but they used the wrong versions and characters from their respective series. Yes it was a marketing ploy and it backfired on them. Heihachi was the correct way to honor the history of Playstation via a 3rd party inclusion.

Issac and Big Daddy (ESPECIALLY Big daddy) were the wrong ways.

MS could use 3rd parties to spruce up their roster and do it the correct way by honoring games that actually were relevent to the Xbox brand over the years like Dead or Alive, Ninja Gaiden, or Mass Effect. Not shit like tossing in Cloud because they got Final Fantasy XIII-3 and Lightning has a Cloud costume in it.

They said they would't do it. The Playstation game failed badly, so I doubt they jump in (Phil Spencer said he would't).

BUT

Microsoft does have enough distinct characters to make a fun experience.
You don't need 32 fighters to be a good game, 8-12 is okay (look at original SSB, it worked so well. And only 12).
