• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

If no new games were ever released, how long would your backlog last?

Few months, but then I have to play all the extremely boring shit as well such as Tales of Symphonia (which I bought recently and I already discovered has aged terrible)

My back log is zero games. Am not stupid to purchase a game only for it to sit there for years without play.... or that rich.
Most of my purchases are pre-owned, years after the fact, under a tenner for most of them. There comes a point were the game is only going to get rarer and more expensive. If I feel I may want to play it at some point, I grab it while it's cheap. I regret not grabbing Bully 360 earlier, it's like £25 pre owned. I missed the boat on that one!

But I agree, when I hear of people buying games day one, only to have half their collection still in shrink wrap a year or so later, seem like such a waste of money.

Only counting the games I currently own, excluding those I have no desire to play: 2-5 years

Counting every game release up to this point: The rest of my life.

Even if I never bought another game ever, I'd be set for life. Assuming I'm still working until normal retirement age.

Might not be quite life if I was home all day. But close though.

Did a bit of a re-evaluation of the collection. Id have to say its been upped to potentially 2-3 years if we also include all the stuff on Steam and shoved away in the back of the closet, which includes PS2 / some PS games.

I've only got 8 games on my backlog and 14 new/upcoming games(excluding 3DS games without a NA release scheduled) I'm planning on buying so that would probably last me a year or so.

I have been thinking about adding to my Saturn library and starting a Super Famicom collection though.

With the games I have on my shelves right now? I'd never run out of something to play - I'd probably get too bored with them before finishing, though.

Depends on how many of the games in my backlog I even WANT to finish, or if they get forced aside by other hobbies. It's plausible that if I seriously play through everything and space it out some it could last me for the rest of my life, or at least a decade. Nevermind replaying games, then I really would be set for life.

I got 7 games to go. So I would say 2-3 months.

Darksiders
Pikmin 2
Tales of Graces f
Tales of the Abyss
Metal Gear Solid 2 (HD collection)
Metal Gear Solid 3 (HD collection)
Metal Gear Solid 4
Batman: Arkham City GOTY for PC (Out September 7th)

I'm almost done Darksiders.

I want to Finish it all before Wii U releases :)

Just to be clear, a backlog doesn't include games I want to play but haven't got around to buying yet?

If so none, but otherwise it could easily last me the rest of the decade.

I finish around 20 games a year of various lengths, so my current backlog would take me over a decade to complete at that rate. Goddamn!

I still love my backlog though :) I look forward to it growing even more.

It would last about 1 minute because I don't really have a backlog. I would die of boredom if no new games were released. I've been struggling enough getting through the summer waiting for Darksiders 2 and Sleeping Dogs.

I'd be set for years, perhaps decades even.

Granted, I haven't even touched some stuff in my backlog yet and given that I keep adding stuff to it, it could take some time before it's finished (if that occurs).

Years. I have roughly 300 games to play on Steam alone. If I really put time into 100%ing or at least coming close to it with all the games I have, I'd probably never need to buy a game again.

I could probably clear up my backlog in a few months if I had nothing else to play. The older I've gotten the more selective I am about the games buy.

I can easily last a generation or two with my current backlog/collection. If I actually replayed my games I could would never need to buy any games ever.

My back log is zero games. Am not stupid to purchase a game only for it to sit there for years without play.... or that rich.

because there could be absolutely zero explanations as to why one doesn't play the game he buys right as he gets home. Zero

I could probably find something to keep me busy for about two solid years. I am another of those guys that succumbs to the pressure of Steam sales whether or not I intend to play the games I buy. Most end up in the backlog as games I intend to play. There's probably another year of shit I won't play but could!

Years and years lol, factoring in achievements and OCD crap too I could go for a loooooooooooong time.

I hardly buy games full priced/new, yet I still end up collecting heaps just cause I see bargains and want them.

I could literally play Skyrim for another year or two.

And on top of that monster, I've got quite a few other RPGs. I'd be good for quite some time. I just picked up about ten games in the Steam summer sale. Yeah, holy shit, I could probably go for 7+ years, maybe as long as 10, just on what I have.

Kinda sad, actually.

Humble Bundles are SOOOOO tasty =3

Indeed! Humble Bundles and those packs that Steam sells such as the Square Enix deal that netted me like 12 or 13 games for $79! It's stuff like that I can't pass up. When I want one game out of a bundle if the bundle is reasonably priced, I grab it.

About 8 hours :(
Sorry gaf I actually play and beat all my games, only thing I haven't gotten around to is buying deus ex dlc. Can you ever forgive me?

Not long, thanks to GameFly I don't have much of a backlog except a list of titles I don't really want to play that much but am somewhat interested in trying.

ive stopped buying games day 1 - usually wait until they are half price or more.

Bought just the one game on day 1 this year Sleeping Dogs...

With the games I own now? I have a lot of stuff on Steam, and a ton of stuff I would replay if I had the time. Maybe 10 years.

If I can still buy old games, probably hundreds of years. There are so many RPGs that I haven't played yet.
