Also, the Slims should be the Pro/X versions as well. Seriously, it would be amazing. PS2 Slim has to be the sexiest console to ever grace my hands.

Bonus points: While they're at it I need them to make electricity wireless and no wires on the damn thing.

Unfortunately that kind of reduction will at best happen with a second revision close to the end of the generation. Pretty crazy that they managed such a massive reduction with the PS2 Slim in just 4 years.
 
MS already have a slim version, it's the S. there's not going to be much hope of Ms making the X much slimmer. There's not a cm3 of spare room in it, and they're already using a tiny fabrication process. It's not like the old days where components shrunk massively.

Sony are possibly more likely just because of how big the PS5 is, but again, the parts aren't shrinking any time soon so they'd have to keep an eye on thermals.

PS2 Slim was a fucking masterpiece, not only it maintained the great look and proportions of the OG console, but it was so damn tiny, like soooo slim, it really stood to it's name. That being said, it's impossible to recreate such a form factor anymore given the power the new consoles pack, there's simply no cooling technology/material that would allow for it, we'll be lucky if the PS5/XSX Slim revisions will fit into a case of a size of X1X.
 
Maybe look at thermal output of those chips, then maybe call Elon Musk. There are certain physical reason for Consoles to getting bigger.

We are starting to move to a 5nm transistor size and in a few years may be on 3nm. But even then, a console half the size of a PS5 would still be PS4 size territory. Add to that everyone moans about jet engine fans, they won't be going that small again.

PS2 had lot of empty space insider for hard drive and network adaptor. Power supply was also removed from console and changed to external one.
 
I'd be ok if a Ps5 Slim gets it to Series X levels (or slightly smaller) and with a less ugly design.

But I'd rather have a quiet large console than a compact jet engine.

Waiting for the PS5 redesign until I get one. Or maybe the Pro model. I have a 3080 for now but when the PlayStation exclusives pile up, count me in.

Whoever engineered the PS5 should commit seppuku at the PS2 slim designer's altar.

PS2 slim is still the most impressive slim console compare to the original it amazing how they shrink everything down into that small form factor it amazing design and plus they manage to include the internet part into the slim wile the original you had to buy a separate modem adapter.

ps3 slim nor ps4 slim were *this* level of slim

ps5 is another level of beast
 
Putting aside the upgrade, because that's crazy town, I just don't see a dramatic transformation like that happening again. Everything about consoles then seemed so rapidly evolving. Today, a size cut much less impressive than that, might not be feasible with the tech advancements of a couple of years.

The one hope for teeny consoles is... well, not something that will appeal to any of us enthusiasts. It seems that HD, cut-down versions of consoles can get quite small.
 
The earliest point I'm gonna buy a Playstation 5 is when a full black 'Pro'-version is being released, no matter if it's gonna be slimmer or not. :messenger_sleeping:
 
Microsoft doesn't really need a slim version. Series X is already pretty small. I was surprised when I got it.

I'm holding out on a slim version for the PS5 though. Hopefully if that happens it's also less ugly.

if MS can stuff more performance in a smaller package then there is no doubt Sony could've made a console the same size or smaller than the Series X. they just got scared of the "iT SoUnDs LiKe A jEt eNgIne!!" comments and went overboard with the amount of cooling for the PS5. maybe in a few years they will put out something like those images.
