If the PS4 is $599, would you still consider getting it?

No for me as well. There's enough competing for my attention that I can afford to wait for a price drop or bundle. Top I'm willing to spend is $400.

I would buy a premium versions at $599, but only if there is another version at $399-449. Otherwise, Sony would just be showing again that it just doesn't get it.

I could go to $450, Maybe... maybe $500. Assuming the generation is going to last at least as long as this one, and the console itself isn't going to break down every two years. But $600? Pass.

You won't be using the iPad for the next 5-7 years. I've certainly got my money's worth of the 599€ PS3; a wealth of entertainment in the form of games, Blu-rays, PS+ & Netflix.

I can understand that over 400€ may be too much for someone's budget, but implying it's more than it's worth is absurd. Especially after last night's event.

True, an iPad would probably be useful for 2 years or so when Apple releases an upgrade or two. But in 2 years, I would've bought 8-10 games for the PS4 which totals to more than a single iPad already

iPad = $499 + (let's be generous and say I spend $60 on apps) = $559 for ~2 years of use

PS4 = $599 + (4 new games * 2 years * $60) = $1,079

I am in no way saying the PS4 isn't worth $599, but knowing I would be spending a lot on games, I would rather wait for a price drop before diving in.

I'd consider ANYTHING. There's no way I'm missing out.

When it comes time that I need a PS4, I will hand Sony my wallet.

I will play PS3 as long as I still have games I want to play on it. When those games dry up, the PS4 has games I want to play, and the hardware is stable enough, I will pay whatever it costs.

Same goes for any system, really.

That's as much a technical decision as a business one, and while it was unlikely, it wasn't completely out of the realm of possibility.

Pricing on the other hand is a completely business decision, and if Sony actually thinks they can charge $600 again after what happened with the PS3, they might as well just quit the business altogether now.
Can't compare the situation. People had to buy a new TV back then as well.

I'm not seeing a 499.99 price point in anyone's posts - but that would be the magic number for me to jump in at launch. Anything higher and I would probably wait a few months.
