IGN: 15 Most Heartbreaking Game Cancellations

PotC: Armada of the Damned still hurts, I get the feeling that there was a great game in there, it just needed more development time. :(

Yeah, Pirates of the Caribbean: Armada of the Damned is a sad one. I remember thinking that sounded like a really cool game.

I remember Jeff Gerstmann speaking pretty highly of it when he saw/played it, too.

I dunno... none of those were particularly heartbreaking for me. Closest one to that would be Dead Phoenix, but then, I think that was pretty well known to be in development hell, so people didn't expect much from it anyway.

I do remember being really disappointed when they announced they were cutting Xenosaga short.

How can you be sad about Final Fantasy 64 being canceled if it never existed?

Thank you, I dont know why people still think that FF64 is or ever was a thing. That rumor was killed many moons ago.

Some poor choices in the article. Sadly many of those didnt play well from my understanding.

"final fantasy 64" was never a game.. just a tech demo at most

but yeah as a nintendo kid myself it was traumatizing. also still pissed the robotech N64 game was cancelled. it looked cool

Has the game confirmed to been cancelled yet? Anyway, Agent didn't even look that good to begin with imo. The only reason people cared about it was because it was an exclusive.

It was never shown, so I don't know how you can say it didn't look good. And it was a Rockstar game. That's why people were excited.

I think they left out Raven Blade, Fallout: Van Buren, and Final Fantasy 64

Final Fantasy 64 was never even a game. People mistakenly thought that the tech demo that Square created was FF64. But it never was. It was Square trying to figure out which direction to take FF in. Once they created that they knew that it needed to move to polygons. And with that they also knew that CD's were the only choice, which lead them to the PSone. The N64 was never an option due to carts.

Most of those were cancelled for good reasons.

Did anyone seriously want to play a Dirty Harry game? Also the Fallout MMO was a scam.

I think an actual series video game like Timesplitters 4 getting cancelled is a little more list worthy than a 'game' like 8 days which was nothing more than a cgi tech demo.

The Half life 2 episode that Arkane was working on (Return to Ravenholm).
Would love to see Valve shop the expansions out again, since I loved OpFor and like BlueShift from Gearbox

The true most heartbreaking Game Cancellations are the ones that are never vocally confirmed as cancelled.

As for the list, interestingly enough, the only one's I've actually heard of would be Starcraft Ghost and Star Wars 1313. I still remember the beginning stages of Ghost's announcement. So sad...

Say what you want but this is relevant to my interests. Snoop and John Singleton? Count me in

It seemed like the author rushed the list.

Also Dinosaur Planet looked promising. Too bad they forced Starfox into it.
