IGN Closes TeamXbox

Didn't realize there were so many TXBers here.

I used to write for Xbox 2K but then they were bought by UGO and I started spending my time at TXB and SRK. I've been posting at TXB for over ten years now, which is somewhat hard to believe.

Anyway, the forums are going to remain up (for now), but it is a shame to see it close.

That was my first gaming forum, I'll miss it. Really disliked when they kicked out Shockwave.

If anybody remembers the forum member Saosin, hey.

How can you even blame them? What does Xbox have to report on? Halo Halo Halo Gears Halo Fable Assassin's Creed Halo Gears Prequel Forza Halo ...Dust Halo

Even if IGN are Sony fanboys, clearly Sony has the upper hand when it comes to games. There's no point in having an Xbox dedicated website when they already have that on IGN to begin with.

Couldn't have picked a better username.

Damn, I still remember when I registered the AIM screenname "gamem8ker" and people on that site swore I was the one behind those Microsoft ARGs. Fun times.

Seems they are keeping the forums up.

Such non-news unless we get word of the forums going down. It's about all the site has had for a long time.. and IMO.. was never a good front page. *runs*

Yeah I was a regular TeamXbox reader/lurker/poster until I got approved here. It had gone to shit before the 360 launched, but the coverage of the new hotness kept it on life support until 2006.

Was a great place back in the day, and the forums were very cool for a "brand specific" site.

Anyone else remember the TXB "nuke" attempt against NeoGaf that got compromised and exposed in the 11th hour? iirc there were only a dozen or so people involved.

Statement from shockwave

Few things have had a greater impact on my life and who I am today than TeamXbox and the community that has supported it for more than a decade. From the very first day I sat down and started putting together a design for the site back in 2000, there was something special about this place. As the site evolved and the community took on a life of its own, TeamXbox quickly became much more than I could have ever expected or hoped for.

Through the ups and downs the TeamXbox community kept me motivated to continue and always put my heart and soul into everything I did here. Along the way we built an amazing staff of people who shared the same enthusiasm and passion for what did. That passion was matched by the community and together I truly believe that what TeamXbox became was unlike anything before it or since.

I am overcome by the memories and emotions stirred up through the experiences I've had as a result of being a part of TeamXbox. I thank every single one of you who helped make it more than I could have ever imagined. Even those of you who probably contributed to some of the grey hairs I now have.

It's a bitter sweet day now that the final announcement of TeamXbox's closing has been posted. I'm still very proud of what we accomplished, yet it breaks my heart to know it's run has come to an end. I genuinely appreciate all the support throughout the years, and I want to thank the people who made the best of what was left of this place after I was gone.

Thank you all for helping create such wonderful, lasting memories.

Why? Were they losing money??

They weren't paying any staff.

That ended in early 2010.

They had a couple of volunteers updating the front page.

They basically just turned off admin access... the volunteers said it was a decision made based on pulling traffic from IGN. They probably just didn't want to keep running such an amateur outfit... even if they are unpaid these people were still posting up things in IGNs name.

Beyond that, they may be preparing to get rid of the forums too.. perhaps they are going to "migrate" all content over to IGN.com.

They've had basically a "code freeze" on the forums for 2 years.. they can't even install basic bot protection there.

TeamXbox was the Fox News of video game fanboyist websites. They were actively promoting flame wars and bigotry. Here's an example.

They will not be missed.

I once read a TeamXbox review that said a feature was "fun, but I didn't get a chance to try it out too much."

That feature was a co-op mode.

That didn't exist.

I bought the game for the co-op mentioned in the review..

Quality stuff.. these were supposedly PAID editors.

Guys, I once convinced the editors that Microsoft now had the rights to Starfox.

The difference between a game journalist and a college kid is very small.

Wow sad. Have not been back to teamxbox in years but was a cool forums back when 360 launched. Look to the stars bowen.

I miss the ask 'Dad' for advice thread in off-topic, he had a milkman avatar if I remember correctly, and Garp was funny. was he the one trying to pass the bar to become a lawyer? I had some good times there. Smurfboy was a deaf gamer that I enjoyed reading stuff from for a different opinion. along with TFX and his avatars.

Hate the forums. My friend had a very high failure rate for the 360 when it came out(went through 10+ 360s in 8 months) and we went on the forums to try to find a solution. Some mod called us liars and demanded proof, asking for our case# or something. Gave it to him and that shut him up for a while and then when I asked him what he found, he said he was unable to verify anything, basically admitting his bluff. A week later our account was suddenly banned for "trolling."

The forums had already gone to the dogs by then. The admins/mods were utter fanboy trash.

Never had a problem with the mods, in the 10+ years I've been there.
Best Xbox forum on the web.
Nice place to get away from the PC elitists and Sony Defense Force that plague many gaming forums.

Hardly ever read the TXB main site or news though; some of the articles were stupid crap.
Guess that's why IGN sucked them in.

Sadly, that's how the majority of the threads there are now.

I used to really like posting on the forums since there were many fair gamers that you could have good discussions with. Many of them left.

That site used to be the only forum I used before Shockwave and a ton of other people left. Kind of sucks to see it shut down, but its been dead to me for years now.
