IGN Closes TeamXbox

It was a nice place to read in the day. Sad to see it go from a historical perspective, but it became rather obsolete years ago.

I used to really like posting on the forums since there were many fair gamers that you could have good discussions with. Many of them left.
It's like how many current posters are mainly over on the OT/Community side now. Several posters have admitted they rarely bother with the gaming side anymore because of the platform wars.

Used to love that website.

Frequented the site and forums in the middle of the Xbox 1 generation, and early portion of the 360 generation.

Great community, but I hadn't been there in years.

Yesterday, from a ign-Xbox editor:

today teamxbox is closing...

there are coincidences and then there are coincidences...

Needs a new generation to reignite the spark. I got weary of arguing about this generation probably by 2009 or 2010. All seems trivial when something new and interesting will replace this generation in the next year or so.

Didn't go to Team Xbox too much but it spawned Darkfalz, some poster who worked at MS who went to various other forums I read after he got banned there. Takes some true skill to be an MS employee and get banned from TeamXbox.

Watching TXB close for some must be rather like selling a car you used to drive to anon, and then seeing on the news later that night that a car a bit like yours, but a different colour etc accidentally fell of a cliff, with no-one inside. There was a landslide.

I wonder what Wecravegames (ie. Shockwave) and the rest of the crew feel about this. I was on Teamxbox because one of my friend was there. That was my neogaf before I joined here... I stayed on there for a while before I bought my first next gen console (PS3)... I still lurked until the mass exodus ie. when they fired Shockwave and the whole crew. :|

That sucks, I didn't go on the site much but when It did it seemed really interesting, it is weird though we heard the statement of IGN yesterday about Sony and than we here about this...wouldn't be shocked if IGN changed to IGSony.

http://wecravegames.com is not Shockwave's forum.

That's : http://gamertype.com

WCG is the spin-off that got the most posters.

And most of the guys Shockwave got to help him with GamerType moved on here:

http://flesheatingzipper.com

Which.. ironically is all front page, little forum activity.

These conclusions... sigh. In fact, pretty much no one outside of the small playstation team (3-4 people) uses their machines, except for the 360. It's pretty obvious for anyone that has followed IGN closely this generation.

TeamXbox was two fan sites (msxbox (news central)and TeamXbox (lighthearted community site) entangled into one to make a mega site

The site used website design way ahead of its time, half the Internet uses the layouts it had (talking msxbox 1999/2000 era here)

Holy shit, sounds like an awesome forum. I'm saddened by this fact, I hope people can still visit the old threads for nostalgia sake.

Probably, I guess IGN wants everyone's heart to go to Sony.

Valve fucking with the minds of millions AND IGN exposing themselves as a Sony puppet review site! All in the same week.

I am going to blame that site for the visual hump fest that was created. I remember reading thread after thread there in the 2002-2006 days and it was nothing but people talking about visuals on average. Someone talking about why a game was better than the other systems (because of visuals) and I strongly feel this is site was a big part in what created that whole "must have top end visuals even if the gameplay is shallow mind set" Then the 360 and PS3 came in with a much lower percentage of unique games and it took twice as long to hit that mark, if it was ever hit..

Either way, there seemed to be some nice guys there but there in a few occasions. Gaf's polices make much more sense, it seems you can stay on topic :)

Found out about this a few days ago. I've been writing for TeamXbox for the past year and a half and most of us who were trying our hardest to keep the site alive saw this coming. No matter what we'd do or suggest to try and improve the site (we had SO many cool things planned, including trying to get Shockwave back, as he actively was trying to get control of the site back,) IGN continuously treated us like complete shit and it was only a matter of time before this happened.

I was a member of TXB since 2002...so many good times. I'll never forget I Love Bees and OurColony, how tied their community was to it.

Seeing the site close after being a member for over 10 years is crazy. I'm gonna miss it :(

Probably one of my most visited gaming sites before joining GAF. Back in the original Xbox days and even the early days of the 360 it was a great site for info and help. I even got most of my Sony info from there as well. Shame to see it getting shut down.

Put me along with the others who went to TXB before coming to GAF.

I had some good times there way back. RIP

edit:

wait what

You have been banned for the following reason:
No reason was specified.

Date the ban will be lifted: Never

i dont remember this

Looked up some of my old posts. Heyo I was right on something from 2006.

All those PS2's in college dorms will not be replaced by $500-$600 PS3's.
Like hundreds have already said. That price and forcing blue ray is going to cost them this Next Gen.

They ruin all video game discussions. Same thing with video card discussions. You would think people would like everything. I guess people have to justify their purchases or something.

Is IGN as big as they used to be?

Biggest pure gaming site on the Internet... but in the Gaming Information category on comScore they are smaller than Wikia (something I know kills the bosses).

Damn, that the forum back then from the early msxbox days to the early times of TXB - great times over there especially during the OG Xbox days.

Haven't been there regularly since I joined here actually, even though those years back GAF didn't get the memo that consoles were just electronics and plastic. Lots of good guys were back there over at TXB.

Why don't IGN just let the site go and do its thing? Such a shame for a forum with such history to go down like that. Funny to see quite a bit of guys here under new names or lurkers though.

I thought people like him disappeared in 2006.

I frequented the forums for years, the OTL was a wonderful thing back then (didn't really go to the forums for gaming stuff), a great community that has mostly stuck together over the years. I've been at WCG and GT since the exodus when they fired Shockwave, but it's still sad to see it finally end. They're technically not shutting down the forums, but it's one crash away from oblivion now. Out with a whimper, such a damn shame. The writing was on the wall for a while now, but still.

Same here...just went to post over there and I saw that I registered back in 2001...I use to read TXB forums a lot at work, when I worked evening and nights,it was so quiet most of the time, thank god for the forum and site back then...some say the forums will stay though? but for how long? It was getting really quiet over there now,but still I went and took a look almost everyday... :(

Cesar article. As I said, that git made me jump ship to GAF, even if back then GAF hated anything Xbox related.

The community was good, tho, even if a bit unruly.

Edit: IIRC this particular piece greeted the visitor with a laugh track. I kid you not.

Oh man. I'm saving all of these for posterity. Do you know any other bullshit articles like these? I want to take screencaps of the most I can. I remember when a particular Sony exclusive was announced for the 360, they had written something along the lines of "one down, two more to go (referring to Metal Gear and Final Fantasy). I think the game was Devil May Cry 4. I'll search.

edit: haha, oh damn, years later, they deleted one of my posts calling out Cesar on his flamebaiting. He had replied, saying, and I quote, "Shut the fuck up". Both of these posts cannot be found on the article in question. LOL.

I remember this website. However, I hung out more at Xbox-Scene when I spent more time screwing with Xbox homebrew than the actual games. Sadly, nowadays it's about piracy with the 360.
