Well yes, at the IGN XBox gamescom prediction podcast they heavily teased RE7 if this isn't a bad joke.

And if I understand it corrently, they even hint at a XBox (time-)exclusivity? At least "they say people who are interested in THIS show..." and since it is a XBox podcast, it could be a hint. But that's just pure speculation, it could mean anything else too.

doesn't sound like a resident evil hint marty was just fucking around. sounded more like its coverage of a xbox exclusive which will likely be halo.

Doubt it. Jose Otero (works for IGN but covers Nintendo) was in Japan this month, obviously there for something related to their IGN First, presumably for August. Was on the 8-4 podcast last week talking (but not talking) about why he was in Japan.

I just don't see this happening honestly; Sony might have been cool with Tomb Raider pulling this but I don't know about Resident Evil. That is brand that sells a lot of systems; if that gets timed exclusivity on X1 for a period of time, it could be a serious threat to PS4 sales.

But, I could see Capcom offering Sony one of two options; pay for Street Fighter V or pay for Resident Evil 7. I guess they picked the former due to having no huge fighter of their own and assumed that RE7 would be a sure thing regardless of outside support.

Who knows honestly; if anything, this could be a IGN First for Resident Evil 0 Remastered or a possible REmake 2.

It was a joke

If they had the "hot exclusive" and were tied to an NDA they wouldn't just flat out namedrop it. At most they'd say "a fan favorite franchise is coming back, and we have the scoop", but even then that might be too much

Marty always mingles words like that on all the IGN podcast he's on I wouldn't take this seriously. To just flat out say that would be breaking embargo rules anyway.

Jeebus how many exclusives can they buy?

They really are fighting the good fight arent they?

XB1 just keeps getting better. Probably gonna grab one once it gets a slim revision.

I have no hope left in this series. I always want to believe the next RE will be great but it never is. Eventually they'll just remake RE4 again for the 10th time.

I highly doubt Resident Evil 7 being timed exclusive is going to be a threat to PS4 sales lol.

It honestly wouldn't surprise me. If Capcom can't afford to make SFV on their own, I highly doubt they can afford to work on RE7 by themselves.

They just released Revelations 2 this year. This whole "Capcom can't pay for their own games!" is nonsense. They're just a lot more careful with how they spend money and prefer to seek out deals with their riskier projects. Resident Evil is still their biggest franchise even with RE6 disappointing.

It's the least they could do after DC3

Yep.

What's the typical sales split of a modern RE game? Seems like a series that would sell significantly better on Playstation systems.

Then again, so is Tomb Raider.

Also, if MS truly indeed got RE7 timed-exclusive, it's not going to be revealed as an IGN First lol.

It'll be the headlining megaton of MS's Gamescom press conference.

It'd be odd to have another franchise that's heavily associated with the PS brand be (timed) exclusive to XB1.

There are people who associate RE with playstation in 2015? Hell even the early games in the series had saturn/PC/N64 ports, at least the Gamecube games were exclusive for a long time.

It used to be associated with the Sony, then Nintendo, then just multi-plat.
Did 5 & 6 sell most on 360? It wouldn't surprise me if they had. (Although, if RE still sells well in Japan a 360 lead would have been unlikely.)

They can afford to do all kinds of things, but they're only going to actually do what aligns with their business objectives.

Are you calling Dead Rising and Street Fighter risky projects?

I think the reality of the situation is that Capcom is simply open to having their titles bought. Nothing more, nothing less. If they'll do it with Street Fighter, they'll do it with anything. If either MS or Sony offered an amazing deal to Capcom for Resident Evil, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they jumped on it.

I don't mind IGN getting the exclusive story, it's just boring that it takes an entire month for them to get the information out and each article is a pitiful amount of content.

They can afford to make a title in their most successful franchise.

Yes? Look at the sales.

Resident Evil 5 - 6.9m
Resident Evil 6 - 6.3m

Dead Rising 2 - 2.9m
Street Fighter IV - 3.3m

There is a clear difference in the current popularity between Resident Evil and Dead Rising/Street Fighter.

That is a good point; it is selling very well and one game doesn't have power to slow sales down that much. Guess I overacted there; sorry about that.

For RE6, 13-15% of the sales came from Japan. (eg. Playstation)

Tldr; Japan likes Biohazard.

but isn't the team who was asking about Remake2 the lead RE team ?

still seems far off if they are still remastering stuff

Not there's two different teams. Insiders here have said its been in dev since right after 6. Also there had been leaked involvement from the cast.
