IGN - Nintendo Fans Around the World React to Switch

Serious question - I preordered a Switch and Zelda, but I don't really collect physical games anymore - this is day and date digital too, right? And is there any reason to get physical that I have not considered?

Really just storage options i'd say. Not like there's any mandatory install to the system memory when you buy physical. If that's not a problem, then there's really no issue. And with digital, yeah, it should be day and date. Nintendo's digital stuff usually unlocks/releases right at midnight too.
Amazon/Best Buy gives you 20% off.
This is a good reason though. It adds up.

Its so weird watching this and realise its not a Nintendo commercial but a ehm gaming journalist segment where Nintendo fans say positive things for 2mins. I suppose IGN is not for me..

ok.
If you want negativity you can just go to 99% of switch threads

Based on the title, which is "Nintendo Fans Around the World React to Switch", what did you exactly expect?

Besides, IGN has also made the same articles as any other site there with the same positive and negative critisicm. Not that I like IGN anyways, but your post just seems too funny.

I was just thinking the other day the Joy-con seem bigger than the pictures make them out to be. The buttons are kinda huge especially compared with the Vita.

Those cartridges are supposed to be quite fast, you'd need an adequate SD card to match them. There was a thread about it.

Nice positive words on switch. I'm pretty torn, I think its a really nice system and it does a lot of really nice things. The idea of a portable system that docks is absolutely fantastic.

Its really too bad the system isn't more powerful, it means pretty much any multi plat game will always be better on my ps4 or pc. I haven't really liked pretty much anything I have heard about Nintendo online. I really wish more wii u ports were announced with dates, so I know that once I finish BOTW I would have more games to play.

Still, playing breath of the wild on the go is a cool idea, still pretty torn on whether to keep my pre order or not. Its not the money, its the idea of spending $400, playing one game, and then not really using the system again for months. Which is where my vita, 3DS, and old wii u were at.

Cartridges are small and have awesome load times?

Eh, if you're going to have a large SD card, go either way

Who was the IGN black guy??? He looks famikiar from twitter. Teminds of that dude that covers Smash and was involved in a fake advertising that blew up on Nintendo's face about a little girl being a Smash champion

That's D1. Smash Commentator and works for Twitch as well.

It's like GAF is offended by any positive reaction to the Switch.
It's cool nowadays to be unimpressed by everything.

I'm surprised some people on here don't go out and manufacture their own console and then convince game companies to make games for it. I mean, it's so easy and all.

I suppose they would if they could be bothered.

The thing shows very well. Many people are excited. A contingent on gaf is pretty mad at switch right now, tho. I think they really wanted nintendo to do the normal stuff and fit in.

Most of the negativity is coming from fans of other consoles and resident Nintendo haters. It's predictable and boring.

In saying that, there are definitely people who were clearly excited about Switch before the event whom are now quite angry and dismissive. I can't help but wonder if they should have maybe tempered their expectations. Anyone following Nintendo with a modicum of interest for the past 10 years would surely realise that Nintendo would not and could not release a portable PS4 Pro and sell it for $200. Which seems to be what they want. Or maybe the current Switch with no motion controls and a cheaper price? Then where is the Nintendo Difference? That would be boring (Vita 2).

I don't think a lot of people have huge issues with the hardware itself. The negativity stems from the pricing, not only of the console but also of the accessories, the move to a paid online model, the apparent half-assed nature of the online service, the sparse launch lineup, and the general sense that the Switch would have been better served launching in the Fall and that it is being rushed to market to coincide with the end of the fiscal year. Those all seem like valid concerns given what we know and are distinct from the actual quality of the hardware.

For me personally I'd go physical because 1) Nintendo games tend to hold decent value if you ever want to trade in. 2) God knows how their online infrastructure is going to hold up day 1.

I can't agree more. And, like everyone that is complain, I will buy one sooner or later.

Leaks and rumors had people expecting better - cheaper price, analog triggers, Splatoon pack-in, Mario at launch, lots of new tracks in Mario Kart 8 DX. Mario x Rabbids was for a long time supposedly a launch game. The system was going to launch the same week as Monster Hunter XX and some guy linked to Monster Hunter tweeted about the event. Tekken 7 was assumed to be announced since the release date was supposed to be revealed at an event in January. Emily Rogers was hyping up the first-year line up and said something along the lines of better first-party support in the first year than in the Wii U's entire life.

None of this happened, and now Nintendo is charging for online. I was disappointed too because I really expected Nintendo to just hit it out of the park with that event. I want one ASAP, definitely, but I also want Nintendo to be highly successful and I don't see a big comeback happening for them, which is such a shame because they had great momentum. They were riding a wave of hype and hope as their reveal video was much better than the Wii U's.

Besides the 20% off with Best Buy GCU/Amazon Prime that was already mentioned, I will mention the fact that physical goods can be re-sold later. Not that you will necessarily want to sell it later, but physical goods have resale value, and at this time, digital games have none. (Of course, physical goods can also be lost/stolen, but there are pros and cons to everything)

Nintendo fanboys love Nintendo and water is wet. I was lined up and ready with my credit card until the presentation when I slid my card back into my wallet along with a single tear.

Well, the moral of that story is don't believe leaks and don't give "leakers" the attention they so desperately crave.

I'm a long time Nintendo fan, but I always keep my expectations in check. I'm just as eager to get my hands on a Switch now as I was before the event. With Nintendo I know what I am getting, great first party games and unique hardware. I don't need leakers to tell me that.

Of course I'd like it to be a little cheaper, but I am sure Nintendo priced it as low as they could (with the technology that's in there) so as still to make a profit.

I recognize D1 and Etika, should I know any of the other people? Youtube personalities?

Arms hype is a little surprisingly. It's been written off a lot on GAF but it looks like something that could end up having a bit more depth than it initially let on.

The person with the glasses with D1 and Etika is Nairo, a top level Smash 4 player.

Well I for one still really dig what the Switch seems to offer for the most part, even if launch year feels thin to me. Glad about the positive responses in the video and I'm curious with what they've got up their sleeve for E3. Surely this time they'll have a bigger presence, more surprises, games? Ect...

They found a bunch of random people in New York City.

Who happen to be popular people who play or run the smash scene.

This was a happy accident. Our camera men didn't know who they were. I didn't find out until later and had to explain who they were afterward.

This is why I always laugh, when y'all be on that "DOA" foolishness. This ain't the Wii U. I can't wait till launch.
