IGN Officially Reveals Multiplayer-Only Warhawk (WOWOWOWOW PS3)!

In the end, this game will just be a quick snack compared to the full course in UT3 though :)

For my personal tastes I'm probably going to spending more time with this than UT. I just get a bit detached with games that are way too liberal with double jumps, sidestep orgies, lots of armor and whatnot.

Yeah that sequence made me laugh too when I saw it. Own3d!

Must download faster! AHHHHHH!

Is it fine to post HD pics of the vid? Obviously I can't post the entire video, but would pics be ok? Anyone?

Hey chub. Go get an interview with the guys and ask them how they plan to sell this thing.

I was pretty bummed about no single player game... But after watching the video... wow. I'm in. It must be nice for them (in developer's perspective) to say ok we are going to focus and polish one aspect of the game and deal with other parts later. The game looks amazing.

Not to be a stickler, but I've got a bet riding on this - where's the official confirmation it's a downloadable game? It's not in IGN's coverage.

They went multiplayer only. Do u expect them to sell it at retail?

How big is this download? A few games like this of any significant size sitting on a PS3 20 gig unit and I think I would rather buy games of this type through retail.

This seems utterly orgasmic.

This really needs to be a big hit... but I'm a little worried considering this is (supposedly) download only. I really don't see what harm could come from sending some discs to retail... other than Sony wants to make a point?

Also, when the hell are the PSN "debit cards" actually going to be available?

I don't get it. What's so funny? Looks amazing though!! I can imagine hours playing this game.

Dude owns everything in sight...one...by one....by one.

If they want to price it cheaply (19.99?), then sending disks to retail would reduce margins.

The problem is that Warhawk will come out for $30 or whatever...and a year later it will likely be the same price. If it were released through retail at $40-50, I could most likely pick it up for $20 or less in six months. I see why this is good for publishers, but I'm not sure why this is good for me, especially on a service that isn't as good as Steam.

That said, direct download works better with multiplayer games than single player, so Sony was smart to take a floundering project in this direction and experiment. Looks like it's resulted in a much better game, anyway.

There's no confirmation to be found.

I dont think it will be 20 bucks. Imo that seems like a steal for what you get. 29.99 seems like the perfect price.

It goes back to that shadowrun discussion, what would you pay for it., etc.

Though of course I wouldnt complain if it were 20 bucks. Which could have a more positive effect on it with getting the word out to more people. More people know about it, more people buy it.

What makes u think the game will be priced the same after a year?

I was just about to ask that. I think they could lower the price on this after it hits a certain number of sales and/or sales slow down. I mean this isn't your ordinary downloadable title that is 3 bucks for all time.

I also wonder how this would work with sale-age threads.

Graphics are a little plain sometimes, but it looks like it plays fast as hell, and it's kind of charming to have power-up tokens in a game these days. Looks fun!

When the soliders were runing around the warhawk map, was I the only one expecting him to start jumping over multiple buildings in a single bound ala Crackdown? :lol

BuddyC, any mention of clan/party support similar to resistance? I think it's vital in a game like this. Especially with the customizations way more in depth than resistance (no offense Insomniac). I can see the clan skins appearing already. :p

Yes it's okay. Post away.

Not bad. Not my type of game, really, but that PSN decision could very well be a great one for everyone.

Great job moving into new territory, though. Exciting stuff.

Trust me, when I'm able to talk about it, you'll know everything I do.

Oh well. I was hoping for a sequel or even remake...a real game, so to speak (I'm not calling this a non-game).
I hate playing online. I love multiplayer, but by that I mean game night in one place, whether that's a LAN party or just multiplayer games on one machine.

I could see getting into this like Unreal Tournament, but it would need LAN mode and some bots to slaughter. Any sign of that?

A pretty brilliant move if you ask me. Sony really seems to be pulling out all the stops - and if it plays as lag free as Resistance, it should be awesome.

Yeah, they did say something about going the download only route in the video. It was towards the end. He said something a long the lines of that they were planning on doing it as download only from the beginning, and that it is the only way that makes sense to distribute the game.

Awesome.

I'm kind of glad that it's an online multiplayer only title now, it reminds me alot of the TMB feeling. If they can take this and do this really well, then it's worth it.

Good to see Dylan Jobe in the video, I wonder what happened to Upton.

Great thing they removed those ugly cottonball clouds and changed up the palette a bit. Warhawk used to kind of make me sick when I used to look at it. It has a nice, solid look to it now.

would be cool if there was a mode to compete against other players trying to kill as many of those endless computer-controlled drones/battlecruisers we saw in the E3 demo for a multiplayer mode.

that would be a really chaotic mode if you can fight against each other too, and steal some points from them if you killed them.

I think they just moved the clouds up to their proper altitude. I think the previous demoes only have a couple hundred scale feet between the water surface and clouds. This looks like the clouds are in the proper place in the sky. I'm not sure they changed anything about the appearance of the clouds themselves, though. PEACE.

Wow, looks great.

If this thing is region locked because of dedicated servers and I can't play anyone with my JPN PS3 I think I'm almost at the breaking point for buying a US PS3 >_<

Can you at least tell us if you know if it's indeed a downloadable game or a retail product?

The clouds and god rays are nice and remind me of Just Cause. Very nicely done. Everything else...looks like a semi-futuristic Battlefield game, I guess. The Warhawk ship is still damn cool, though.

So wait, this is battlefield like combat, but with focus on the vehicles, and it's a downloadable title on the network?

Sony really is making a comeback. :D

Wow, this game sure has come a long way since we last saw it! It definitely has a Battlefield vibe to it. I was also reminded of Twisted Metal: Black Online, particularly with a few portions of the video demonstrating the ground vehicles.

Even if it isn't officially confirmed as a downloadable game, I wouldn't be surprised to see them go that route. After all, if it's going to be only playable as an online multiplayer game, then they might as well distribute it online. Also, this would eliminate confusion at retail for people who purchase the game and expect there to be some offline single-player component.

If offered as a downloadable game, this (along with other games like Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection) could serve to call attention to the download system, and pave the way for digital distribution of major high-profile releases in the future.

the same guy who reported this is the same guy who reported about the scaling being fixed.

you know what that means...

Hasn't stopped other such games from going to retail.

Like I said, I know which way the wind is blowing but we ain't there yet.
