IGN plays Mario Strikers Charged online

Why can't they just release a system update that gives us a code for each of our mii's?.. if that's the way they want to do it for every game..

Okay so hold on. If I want to play a 2 on 2 match, my son and I versus my two brothers who live at my parents house, We will have to register FOUR different friend codes between us, as we each have seperate Miis? What in the hell are Nintendo thinking??! I sure hope that Mii friend code registration codes are the same for EVERY online game...

uhm, no. That would be like two friend codes.

Because we're building society around online predators now.

That explains Friend Codes. Not game specific ones. I think I remember reading an interview awhile back where somebody at Nintendo made the connection that you may not want somebody on your Mario Kart friends list coming in and ****ing up your Animal Crossing garden, so the codes should be separate. Which is the dumbest logic I've ever heard, just have a ****ing "block" option.

I just don't understand what Nintendo's reasoning is with the game unique friend codes. I understand the system in general, but if you've added somebody to the Wii Address Book than it's safe to say that person probably isn't going to be waiting outside your house to rape you. So why do you need a new code for a game?

But I thought the codes were MII specific, not WII specific.
True. But sadly, when you are playing online with 2 players on one console you can only choose one Mii. The other player is like a guest. It was shown in the Video I posted earlier.

Well in MSCharged, the codes are not game specific but Mii specific.

Because the whole family is using the Wii, right? And I don't wanna play my mum's soccer friends!

neither does she play soccer nor Wii

Okay. Makes sense now. one Mii and the other can be a guest.
However, could I take my Mii friend code and play online on another persons Wii at their house and have all of my records/stats in tact? If thats an option then can we store friend code data on our wii motes much like we can store our miis?

So is the friend code universal in any way?

People are saying that I have to register each Mii with each person I want to play with. Does this mean I have to register it with each game? There are three of us who want to play online with my Wii, would we have to register 3 times per game?

Pretty shocking :(

Any online system that requires some sort of outside communication is utterly irrelevant.

Like Xbox Live then? None of my friends have their 360 on permanently, so 90% of the time that I want to set up a game of Crackdown I have to arrange it with them outside of Xbox Live.
It's the total lack of communication within this game that bothers me, unless there's some sort of text chat that I haven't heard about.

The gameplay is tight, great, that's what I wanted to hear. Too bad for not being able to choose two Miis on one Wii, the rest was expected. Bring it on! :D

Am I the online one thinking maybe we could avoid turning this thread in another friend codes debate ?

will this game have voicechat?

i have yet to see a nintendo game do online play and voice chat at once. (pokemon dosent count as you take turns)

Metroid Prime Hunters I think.

I dont understand the interest behind the game. There are other countless online games to chose from except this, a follow up to a boring and mediocre gc game.
Ok it is Nintendo's first online Wii game, so what, there will be other much better titles till Christmas to devote time to. I guess everyone is caught into Nintendo's "Wii is online!!" hype

Any football/soccer game in Europe is going to be a big deal., especially at this point of the year when the football season is coming to an end. Regardless of the format.

Mario Strikers is not that much of a football game, not with those supershot moves being the main dynamic behind the game. And the GC game was just "fun" in multiplayer, nothing to shout about imo (and definitely not with so many other excellent games out there).

Well this is not how its being promoted. Its being promoted as a football game on steroids. Its being promoted in the UK with Ian Wright and his son Shaun Wright-Phillips. This game will be huge.

Mario Strikers is boring just is you play single player, which lacks of something to make the game interesting. On the Wii, the game adds online, which means no need to play single anymore, so the biggest problem of the original is solved.

Also, the rankings are going to make the game a lot more interesting for those who takes competition seriously.

I made a table football game for mobile phone were the simple gameplay ended in a tremendous addictive game. That was due to two things: online ranking for competition and personal level ranking for make the CPU harder (also, there were different rivals which played the game in different ways, so the game didn't drop into routine easily).

So if a game as simple this table football game I did can get interesting and adictive in mobile phones... the deep gameplay with online gaming on Mario Strikers Charged is going to be amazing. At least, this is what I think of it.

Mario Strikers was ****ing great if you played multiplayer with poeple at the same level as you. I found that the game was too complex and too fast for people new to it, and when I had the opportunity to play with someone close to my level, both of us we're amazed on how great the match was.

I actually like the idea that the more you knock the ball about between your players, the more the ball glows.. the more it glows, the more power you can throw into a shot / special move. It's gonna be fast and arcadey, and nothing like real football, but I'd think people would expect that.

I'm willing to give this a shot. I only know a handful of friends that have a Wii, so the friendcode thing won't be too taxing. It also means my brothers can have their own profiles. As there's no voice/text communication, and ranking only works when you play games with strangers, I'll probably be playing a lot of random people too.

¡ADELANTE! :lol EDIT: ups, no hotlinks allowed :(

Is there any one character whose power is broken? I'm thinking specifically of Boo, which I believe they said can turn insubstantial and go right past the goalkeeper. If you get down the timing for that, isn't the game balance dead?

Yeah, Boo can do that and Montymole can dig into the ground and appear inside your goal. But you can stop them just like the captains. I think it is good they have their own super shots, it is very fun

Could you please explain how works the "invite" thing ?

You enter the "WFC Central" and connect. Then you can choose "invite" and a list with every added friend is shown. It says who's online, who's playing and all of that. You invite them and they accept/deny or vice-versa.

So, let me get this straight.
Does Mario Strikers require a separate friends code than the standard Wii address book?

Yes that's is. They're 12-digit codes. And not just that: you can have different profiles for several users on the same Wii.

Friends codes do not have to be a chore, IF they provided an easy way to exchange them with people. Why can I not send a Wii message to someone in my Wii address book and have the friend code embeded in that? Simple safe and straight forward.

Can they play at once? Or does the "second" player only play as a guest, i.e. without being identified with his own personal profile?

Gawd i hate friend codes, but i see why they want you to have seperate id's so each Mii can have their own profile. The only thing i dont like is having to run the game to see if any friends are online....

Nintendo, hear this!! Add a new channel, 'Friends Channel'! Click on it, select your Mii and it automaticly checks your friends llist for each game and give their present status. If they're playing a particular game you want to play, Log off and start the game. If theyre not ingame, send them an instant message. DO THAT AND I'LL BE HAPPY!!! :D

You should be able to see (in your global address book) what games each user has and you should be able to just click "request" to get it, it gets saved to the disk and when you start the specific game it gets added automatically.

He's a guest. In the video they suggested to create a "Team Mii" if you want to play together frequently. But that means new FC again.

Agreed.

Infact , didnt Iwata promise us that we would be alerted whenever our 'friends' purchase a new Wii game. Wasnt that one of the original ideas behind the messageboard system?

why is it that users are the ones with the good ideas, instead of Nintendo?? :(:(

I think Nintendo has the mentality of "when nintendo fans complain, people listen."

The first game lacked in-game music other than the menus, which was substandard at best. It looks as if they've improved on it, so some progress is being made.

I really wish they'd use custom soundtracks like in Excite Truck.

I really like how they've changed the gameplay. I thought it would play like the GC one, but this time it is more difficult, more strategical and more "serious". For example, you cannot shoot a lost ball with strength just pressing the B button like in the previous one. Now, only the biggest characters can do that and reach the goal (Donkey, Bowser...).

It's still a pain in the ass and I wouldn't blame anyone for not wanting to bother with it. It's just a horrible system. This is all compounded by the fact that we have Wii codes, as well.
entirely correct. Nintendo could have easily circumvented all of this nonsense by using the system friend code as the game friend code. I understand why the DS doesn't have unified codes.. because it ties the cartridge (where the save is) with the DS (uniquely identified MAC address). But he Wii's storage area and MAC address are already intrinsically tied together. There was no need to establish separate friend codes. And when this itteration of Wii-online fails, hopefully Nintendo will learn and release Gen2 games with unified friend codes.

I'm sorry to disturb you, but it will not fail or become close to it. I guess they will make changes to the friend code thing, like all you said, a "friends channel", a way to send embeded FC... remember that the Wii OS is pretty young and they has a lot of job to do in order to improve it. It's just a matter of time.

btw. How does everyone already know that each game will use different codes? Maybe there will be ONE code for every Mii and that's it.

I know it seems unlikely but people have to stop bitching until plans for coming online-games are announced imo.

I agreed until it became clear that Nintendo was letting you have multiple profiles on one system. At that point the Wii code became inadequate, because it's not specific to any one profile on that system. I just hope there is only one friend code tied to your specific Mii. The system sucks, but I can see why they went with it. [sigh]

Looks like at one point they decided it was going to be multi-user and tried to retrofit this into all the system software, but without too much success. You can't send a message to a Mii, for example.

Man I'm just happy there's finally a date for Strikers in the US July 2nd. It's a good ways away, but now I have something else to look forward too.

Bububuu what about THE PEDOPHILES !!!

They could also redo the wii message system so that the system friend code is no longer used (except for old games), you would have to choose your mii before you can see the messages, that way you can have messages sent to just 1 mii.

That's true. Knowing that everybody could read the messages sent to me has gotten me far less using this function.

Otherwise I would have shared my Wiimail adress to all friends/family just like another e-mail adress.

Well you either haven't played the GC one at all or not with any friends. Mario Strikers is anything but boring. You can criticize quite a few things in MS but I never found it to be boring at any time. For me MS is one of the best action sports games around. The best would be NBA Jam but that's a different story altogether.

One unified Mii code across all games = GOOD (best system)
One code for Mii, unique to each game = verrrrry bad

So we still have no clue how this system works. Great

Also the worst thing about friend codes is that if they're unique to each game, no one's going to want to put in all the gaffers they know or something, every time. With a gamertag, you wouldn't need to worry about this since your profile spans all games but making online play consistent with multiple codes is a chore.
