IGN"s exclusive trailer is Dead Island

Trailer was a nice art piece. If the game goes for a goofy tone like Dead Rising after that trailer however, i will be upset.

Still, after experiencing DR2 and Just Cause 2, the idea of an open world tropical island survival horror game sounds amazing.
 
Finally some new stuff about this game. At a time where zombies have gotten old, oh well

Looking forward to it still, that trailer was very well done
 
Awesome trailer.. fantastic I must say. I'm tempted to say "too bad it's another 1st person shooter" too but I will wait and see what the game looks like now.

The game industry sure likes to create serious trailers, but in the end it’s all mindless killing.
 
If its got true RPG and persistent survival based elements I'm in. I'm talking about finding a spot on the island, fortifying it, collecting supplies, and working towards some goal of getting off the island.

The fact that there's a mystery plot element is a cool touch too.

Left 4 Dead is one hell of a co-op experience but it never got the Zombie genre feel right. Here's hoping Dead Island can bring it.
 
I actually read up about this game, and recall being disappointed that it was basically vapor-ware. Good to see that it has resurfaced. Although I'm not expecting it to be that good, despite liking the premise.

Speaking of, I hope there are no silly L4D style super zombies in this game. Zombies should be threatening enough on their own, in packs.

early previews talked about there being fast AND slow zombies... so make of that what you will.

Exactly. And you couldn't really immerse yourself in the fiction of Left 4 Dead since everything was about gameplay/versus elements first and foremost. Makes for a nice game, but doesn't feel like a true zombie survival movie.

There have a been a shitton of zombie games and zombie modes, but nobody has really nailed the genre conventions yet.

Thats 5 major releases this Generation with Zombies as the main focus. I have no idea why people have Zombie Fatigue when really it is one of the most under represented genres for full games.

Manshooting is so much more creative, and is such a rarity these days.
 
In all my years of gaming, I've never seen such a well made trailer like the one for this game, and I thought the Gears trailer was the best, but this one surpasses it in every respect. It really struck an emotional chord for me.
 
Finally just got round to watching that. Choked me up a little bit I must say. When the mothers hands go up to her face, and the dad puts his arms out at the end. Really affecting...

i suppose the 'men with guns' sub genre is just fine then.

zombies have always been a staple enemy in gaming and always will be.

you don't have to play a game to be tired of something over saturating the market. I don't play COD or any military shooters but it's still fair to say you're tired of those games being pushed.
 
Dead Island and Dead State are the two upcoming Zombie games of note. They both try to be somethng different than the mindless slaughter of L4D and Dead Rising.

I think there is a chance these games will capture the feeling of vulnerbility and desperate survival from classical Zombie movies.

Um, Dead Nation is already available on PSN... and it's a arcadey shoot 'em up. unless there is another game with the same title not yet released...
