I play old games, but jesus PS1/N64 era was the most disgusting thing to ever happen to graphics.

Many PS2 games didn't even run at 640x480, stuff like Silent Hill 2 was running at 640x240 or something. Plus most didn't even support progressive scan :lol

PS2 textures looked like puke even back in 2003, and a lot of it was a jaggy low ress mess :lol

I...I'm in shock, really. Thanks for talking about PS2, when I'm not even ****ing talking at that system. I'm talking about N64, which I guess you addressed...with you're obviously bloated and moronic opinion. There's nothnig disgusting about them unless you look at them EXPECTING them to be as good as the shit we have now. I look at Ocarina of Time, Paper Mario, Banjo Kazooie, Rayman 2, Final Fantasy IX, Vagrant Story, etc and I see games that still look good now, despite their hardware limitations. The only thing disgusting here is your attitude.

I would imagine that Nintendo is still trying to figure out how much they are going to charge and how much/what they are going to include. The last we heard about price, Nintendo said they will still trying to figure out how much everything would cost them. I'm sure once they finally figure out that price, and weigh the retail demand, and decide just how popular the PS3/Xbox 360 will be this year, then they will set their own price.
Well, we're about 3 months out, when would FINAL completly true details be expected?

It's okay your can keep your blocky characters, mud textures, 15 fps, and no bilinear filtering N64 games :lol

And you seem to be prancing back and forth between the line of troll and annoyance.

You and Anihawk seem to love me so much. But my points are actually all pretty valid ranging from what I sa regarding Wii's price and our little graphical N64 debate. It's just my opinion take it or leave it but thinking that I'm going to get into some intellectual "better than you" arguement is kinda ridiculous :lol

$230 is OK, but it had better come with a classic controller.

Offtopic: It seems like imported emoticons are being overused and abused lately. Just sayin'.

AHEM!

I hate to interrupt all the sexual tension between you guys right now, but may I suggest we put a lid on it until TGS or otherwise official information is released?

Several possiblities:
2) Nintendo expects the Dollar to drop further

I believe you’re absolutely correct in your assumption. Nintendo’s pricing structure is based on the dollar and since we could see dramatic decline pre-launch I expect Nintendo will be waiting as long as possible to announce price.

Hence, this IGN article, like most is full of shit--much like this thread. The whole defining of ‘value’ bit was surprisingly entertaining.

Are you getting a Wii at launch no matter the price?

No, but at $230, it's not too huge a ripoff. Like I said, I think $200 is the best choice, and that's what I was expecting.

EDIT: Stop with the ****ing emoticons.

Well personally at this point I'm deciding between a 360 and a Wii for my first console. A bundle and a good TGS for 360 could make me consider it before a Wii. Especially if I need to buy a wireless router for it and if I'll have to buy new standard controllers since cause Wii might not come with one.

I'm sure you are thrilled by my little dilemma and my lovely emoticons that make it much more easy to display a certain emotion in my posts

It's to late, I'm already bleeding from the scratches I need to make in my face every time I read one of his posts.

:lol ?

I noticed Nintendo seems to be following a lot of pages from the Ipod book. The design, the attracting people who usually wouldn't be into having that, and now a pricepoint. I don't think I've ever seen a normal Ipod on the dot ($300, or $400), its always $374 or some crap.

Wow, someone must be ripping of Nintendo if they sell the Wii at 229 and still take a slight loss....

Maybe they decided to not lose anything at launch noting that they are getting 5 million console out the door... OR this rumour is baseless crap. Could be that too.

I had to correct you on this...

For one, most PS2 games actually DO run at 640x448 resolution with a full frame buffer. It just so happens that a number of larger titles use field rendering, which alternates between two 640x224 frames each second. The benefit was 60 fps (well worth it).

Progressive scan support is way overblown. A good TV today will deliver an image of roughly the same quality with either 480i or 480p. In fact, many field rendered PS2 games look better than 480p XBOX games on my current display. A great scaler can do wonders for you.

Only the jump to 720p and beyond really matters. 480p is hardly a big deal (though it has a few benefits).

it's fascinating how this goes on and on and on, people talk about value and power and cost and blah blah blah while no one seems to have the slightest clue how expensive the wiimote tech actually is.

quoting myself for the second time:

aren't some of you underestimating the manufacturing cost and the value of the wiimote tech though? isn't the tech at least clearly more expensive than what sony and microsoft use for their controllers?

Silly rabbit, everybody knows that everything beyond graphical power is cost free.

amir0x seems to think that shit comes off the back of a truck

when it some high tech shit that takes a bit to make (hello, GYROS!)

Argument #1

Microsoft's controller is wireless and costs $49.99. I would say that with the gyroscope functions, speaker, and mic, the Wii controller costs more to produce. But let's say it's the same. So if Nintendo throws 2 of those in the package = $99.88. Then "a suped-up gamecube", so if a new one is $99.99, then say the Wii hardware is worth $149.99.

149.99 + 99.98 = 249.97. So basically, Nintendo takes a ~$20 loss on each unit. I got it all figured out. So it's a fair price.

Argument #2

Sony's PS3 costs $600, 360 is $400, stop bitching.

ugg just stop using MS overpriced accesories as a justifacation for a $229 gamecube turbo.

DS has wifi in it so I guess the rest of the hardware is $30? :lol

The DS hardware itself is worth several thousands of dollars. The Wii costs millions per unit to produce. $229.99 is a wonderful deal.

Well, it was mostly sarcasm, but I do feel that it is a reasonable pricepoint. I mean, did you people really expect it to be $149.99? I mean, that's not going to happen.

The controller's technology is ahead of it's time, it's probably costing Nintendo more than you people think. And while it may be a "GC Turbo", GC's are going for 100 right now, so a little extra horsepower + 2 controllers, to me, warrants the extra 130.

Wii != "GC Turbo" beyond the basic chipset.

Handhelds are not comparable to home consoles- at least that's how I usually see it go here on GAF. So, that is null.

MSFT is perfectly reasonable to use. That's how much it costs to get non-warrantly voiding, licensed WiFi connectivity. Overpriced or not. 64MB of flash RAM will set you back about 40 dollars too. That is the precedent that has been set.

people are too busy reciting from rote memorization what they heard someone they consider "in the know" say in an article or on a podcast to think for themselves and use reasoning.

except my old buddy jarosh.

Wait, why the hell is everyone saying "2 Wiimotes in a package"?

Why the hell does anyone think Nintendo will do that?

Well for one it is called "Wii" and because $230 seems much for nothing extra.

does it?
i would be surprised if nintendo doesn't launch wii at $200--it's the de facto price for all nintendo home consoles, right?

the truth, though, is that once i'm paying $100 for something, increments of $20-$30 seem pretty insignificant. so $200 for a console and $230 for a console are both completely doable, as i feel if i can accumulate $200, i can scrape together from the change in my couch enough to get the system. you know?
