Where's Knives?

Light deserved number 1. Such a good villain, I kind of wanted him to win and actually felt what he was doing was just.....until he went full crazy.

Griffith deserves to way higher as well.

Why are so many people criticizing this list for being mainstream? I mean, there are so many better choices in the mainstream animes like Shishio, Do Flamingo, Aizen, Orochimaru Toguro's younger brother...

This list is straight up bullshit.

Griffith (Berserk)
Johan Liebert (Monster)
Light Yagami (Death Note)
Hisoka / Kuroro Lucifer (HxH)
Freezer (DB)
Adrian Rubinsky (Legend of Galactic Heroes)
Dio (JBA)
Orochimaru (Naruto) / Aizen (Bleach)
Blackbeard (One Piece)
Vicious (Cowboy Bebop) / Lust (FMA)

lmao at Vegeta

He spends most of his time as a top 10 anime chump

#1 should have been Griffith
I like Griffith but he is not a better villain than Johan.

Light deserved number 1. Such a good villain, I kind of wanted him to win and actually felt what he was doing was just.....until he went full crazy.

Griffith deserves to way higher as well.
Not over Johan. Light had the Death Note and what did Johan have? nothing. This IGN quote about him is amazing.

Johan just used his own wits and knowledge of human nature to commit his evil. He's most frightening because he exposes the base nature of his victims. He turns other people into monsters, but he doesn't have to use any spells or special powers. He's just a masterful manipulator, and his tools are cleverness, words, and a knowledge of how the human mind can be broken. That's what makes him so scary.

So yeah

Can't say I agree with the list, except for number 1. Great choice.

It should have included manga to have the best bad guy ever:

I wish more japanese manga/anime authors had the same skill as Naoki Urasawa when it comes to creating unique and interesting villains

It is still crazy for me that we don't have an anime base on the 20th Century Boys :/

This is definitely a list of someone who has seen a few popular anime.
Which makes Monster showing up out of left field kind of surreal, I haven't seen it but it does sound like the choice really IS worthy of a #1 spot, but I also know it wasn't successful enough to fully release on disc in the USA.

Hamdo from Now and Then, Here and There

Not exactly the most calculating or intelligent villain, but he does atrocious things such as kidnapping children and turning them into soldiers. HE ALSO KILLED A CAT.

Yeah, fuck this guy. I don't think I hate any other anime character more than this guy.

Griffith should be higher.
Shou Tucker is memorably awful but feels like a bit of minor character for a list like this.
Gankutsuou should be on the list; he is the antagonist of the adaptation and is a great villain.
Lucy barely qualifies as a villain, not least by the standards of the show she's in.
Vegeta's an actual villain for about a hot minute and he doesn't belong on the list for what little he did.
I suppose Light is something of a villain-protagonist, but I don't think he belongs that high on the list even if he is included.

Number one is, of course, appropriate. Though I think Griffith is worse as far as villainy goes.

STOP SPOILER TAGGING LISTS
This is the second time I've said this recently, but wow....I'm generally not too picky with lists, but this list is awful.

Agree completely with everything you've said here, especially having Gankutsuou on this list. One of my favorite anime, and one of my favorite characters.

Was gonna shit all over this list, but they put Johan at #1. Respect.
Still a total shit show of a list

Really, though. Griffith at #6? After the eclipse? C'mon son. I never wanted to see an anime character kill another more than I wanted Gutts to kill Griffith after that. That's an easy top 3. Light shouldn't even be on there, though I had assumed he would be listed as #1 when I saw the thread title. L was the only remotely interesting character of that entire show.
