[IGN] Top 25 PlayStation 4 Games

There's nothing mindless about it, and if they feel it's good enough to warrant #1 in spite of having a mission missing at the end, then so be it. There are a few games that come to mind that are highly praised yet nevertheless incomplete, such as KOTOR 2. For some, it taints the experience, for others, it's good enough in spite of that.

You rate what you experienced.

It sets a terrible precedent that it's alright to release unfinished products as long as "what's there is fun." Not only that MGSV is flawed. The Witcher 3 and Bloodborne are far more complete than MGSV is and they are damn fun as well.

I played 7 of those games and, hopefully, by next year this list will see more new titles.
I wouldn't call the ps4 games so far lackluster, but only very few have honestly impressed me.

Not a bad list. I think professional reviewers are hesitant to give Rocket League its just due, just because of how simplistic the game is. Here's my list:

5. Metro Redux (two incredibly underrated games)
4. GTA V (how a remaster should be done)
3. Bloodborne
2. Rocket League (easily the most fun times I've had playing a game this year)
1. Witcher III

I can't believe Shadow of Mordor made #8, above all those others, that's strange, but I do appreciate that Rogue Legacy earned the 15 spot.

I'll echo many of the comments here and say that DA: Inquisition shouldn't even be in the list, let alone that high. I got bored to death of that game a mere 15 hours in. Deathly dull stuff. And every model was a victim of a small character creator selection seemingly, because I was starting to notice the same haircuts, nose bridges and chin shapes the further I progressed. Nobody looked like a coherent human being, just a mish-mash of different parts to choose from. It was really off-putting lol.

I'd have been happy with either MGS V or Bloodborne as #1, so I'm satisfied.

I haven't played Witcher 3, but I mostly hear good things about it.

But shouldn't it be judged on what's there and not what's missing? I mean, even if I put it down after the first chapter, I would have thought that it was the most entertaining 50 hours I've had in a long time and therefore, the best game I've played this year. I still had just as much fun in chapter 2, but maybe because I don't care about story or anything when gameplay is that good, things being missing when I've already put 150 hours in would just be icing at that point.

It'd be one thing if it came out and it was a 10 hour unfinished game, but this has length and fun in droves still. I was happy almost every minute I spent with it and to me, that is the only thing that matters.

If I were to watch a season long TV show (something this game hilariously tries to do and fails) only to find out that several plots that were brought up throughout the season didn't get resolved then yeah. They should have never brought the plot points up if they couldn't complete them.

I guess, I just rarely care about the story in a game for most genres. If it makes me care, awesome. If it doesn't, not a problem. The stories could have literally been about Big Boss wanting to make D Horse take a dump on various members of my family and I'd still probably say it was the best game on PS4.

Let's be honest here, aside from a few people, the only people that like IGN top PS lists are IGN. They have NEVER had a PS list any of my friends or myself have liked.

MGS V being number 1 on any list is a travesty. It's problems go far beyond the story. Almost every facet of the game is a mess.
Dragon Age Inquishition being on any list is just wrong.

Try again, IGN.

Bloodborne/Until Dawn too low. Dragon Age/Mordor too high.

No Galak Z, Driveclub, Teraway, N++ , Astebreed, or Alien iso

not impressed by IGNs listing ability

Consider people who didn't have a PS3, would you not recommend The Last of Us and Journey as some of the best games on PS4? They absolutely should be on these lists.

Yes I definitely would recommend it, but wouldn't count it in a best off list of PS4 games since that game is not original for that system. I know it is slightly different situation, but I feel it is similar to recommending an old movie.

There should be a differentiation between a bet of and games you should play list. I guess that's just me because that is a missed spot since I already played the game on PS3.

Spelunky is in my all-time top 5 so picking at 25 PS4 games ahead of it seems crazy to me.
If the criteria was different I'd get it but they count last-gen games as equals and value longevity. Spelunky lasts for ages and I'm pretty sure people will still point to it as a classic long after some of those games have been forgotten.

Oh well, different tastes and all that.

List is bad.

Though MGSV should be 1 and Bloodborne at 2. Both are some of the most fantastic mechanical titles I've played in some time.

They put most of the rest of the titles to shame.

Dragon Age and Shadow of Mordor being up there too... lol

25. The Wolf Among Us - never played it
24. inFAMOUS: Second Son- Horrible game in my opinion.
23. Broken Age-Never heard of it.
22. Until Dawn-Is this a good game?
21. Minecraft-Never played it.
20. Far Cry 4-Never played it.
19. Everybody's Gone to the Rapture-Never heard of it.
18. Rocket League-Never played it.
17. Guacamelee- Didn't care for it
16. Batman: Arkham Knight -Never played it ( I thought this came out on X1 also)
15. Rogue Legacy -Never heard of it.
14. Rayman Legends -Never played it.
13. Child of Light- Never played it.
12. Diablo III-Never played it.
11. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn-Never played it.
10. Transistor-Never heard of it.
9. Resogun-Never played it.
8. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor-Never played it.
7. Grand Theft Auto V-Great Game
6. Journey-Never played it.
5. Dragon Age: Inquisition-Never heard of it.
4. The Last of Us: Remastered-Mediocre game
3. Bloodborne-Great game
2. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt-Never played it.
1. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain-Want to play it.

-I would definitely substitute Killzone Shadow fall for Second son
-I would switch sleeping dogs for Guacomelee

I think this says more about you than it does about the list tbh.

They way I look at the list is "If you just got a PS4, what are the best 25 games?" while taking into account nothing else, not if they appeared anywhere else or anything. Because for all we know, it might be someones first console.

FWIW, mine would look something like this right now (haven't played Until Dawn or SOMA yet, but will very shortly):

10. inFamous: Second Son
9. Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
8. Batman: Arkham Knight
7. The Evil Within
6. Wolfenstein: The New Order
5. Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor
4. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
3. Alien: Isolation
2. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
1. Bloodborne

I think that's a really strong ten.

Strange, The Order must have completely slipped their mind..

I also think putting a game at #1 that *just* came out is a little silly. At least give the game a month to cool off.

I see that as a double edged sword. If I got the console today I would see that game and if I didn't know about it at all then cool a great game, if not it would feel like the best games of this console include an old game?

I guess I agree that the game is good and should be on the list , but some note/penalty or something should be taken into account because it is a remaster.

Same crap in the Witcher as well.

Same for MGSV too..but ssshhhhhh, its a secret. I really liked DA:I and had no problem ignoring the checklist missions that didn't interest me. I love TW3, will probably be my game of the year, but a lot of the side content, particularly the monster contracts and treasure hunts are rinse and repeat. They didn't bother me anymore than the DA:I missions either but I still haven't figured how they are somehow so much better than the other.

It's missing Velocity 2X.
Another great game. Only argument against it is that it fits better on Vita (in my opinion of playing both platforms). But it's still a better game than many on the list.
But shouldn't it be judged on what's there and not what's missing? .
No. What's there is incomplete. That is a valid reality that can't be handwaved away, no matter how hard people desperately try.

I think we can all agree that at least no COD or Battlefield is significant progress........

disclaimer - I am a huge BF fan but the launch of BF4 and subsequent bullshit that went on for months was enough to skip this list I feel.
