IGN's best 25 Wii games

My list probably sucks and shows my bad taste, but oh well.

10. Mega Man 9
9. Toki Tori
8. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
7. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
6. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
5. Punch-Out!!

1. Super Mario Galaxy

De Blob? Rabbids? Excitebots?!

Sorry, but..... no. Absolutely not. I can think of way better stuff to go in those spots.

Hey, Excitebots and de Blob are pretty good games. Maybe not members of the top 25, but certainly they shouldn't be singled out as games that shouldn't be on one.

Fails to be one of the best 3D platformers or even a very good one since you must waggle to jump, and it works badly.

Any platformer where you must waggle to jump automatically fails as a platformer.

Loved the music in De Blob, though, and the core concept has a lot of room to grow. I'd like a sequel, as long as they mapped the jump to a button.

But yeah, the jumping mechanic was pretty annoying. It wasn't the worst you could find in a Wii game, though.

And I've been meaning to ask, the left person on your avatar is Claus, right?

from 6-25 i have 14 of them, and i know that of the 6 i do not have, 2 of them my family'll have by the end of december.

from 1-5 i most likely have all 5 or 4 of the 5.

And I might as well list the ones I've played before...

25) De Blob
24) No More Heroes
23) Wario Land: Shake It!
21) Wii Sports Resort
18) Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
16) Excitebots: Trick Racing
15) Super Paper Mario
13) Mario Kart Wii
12) Punch-Out!!
11) Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure
09) MadWorld
08) Okami
06) New Super Mario Bros. Wii

That rent 1 game get 1 free deal sure does come in handy. x3

And Super Paper Mario will always be my biggest disappointment of the system's life. :<

Like usual I don't really agree with any of these. These threads are good reality checks.

My list would probably have Brawl, NSMBW, WSR, Wario Land, MP3... LKS too.

I don't really have any sort of pattern to judge the games by though. Whatever works works.
No Galaxy or TP because of the sheer number of hours I put into the other games as well as how much I enjoyed myself every second. It's just not on the same level and I won't let IPs blind me.

I'd say it's a very good platformer despite the wagglejump. Wagglejump is definitely the worst part of that game, though.

I dunno, since you have to jump a LOT, I'd say it really is one of those things that takes the game down a major notch.

The other elements are there, though levels often can take too long to complete and needed a more elegant save system, but when the jumping is so crucial to everything it really is something that should have been rethought. Turned a fairly good product into a mediocre one, imo.

Ha, my theory was right for the top 5 too. Silly predictable IGN.

and lol @ Matt using Metroid Prime Trilogy just so that he could include Metroid Prime 1 and 2 with Corruption.

Well they got #1 right, that's for sure.

Super Mario Galaxy :salute:

I don't mind seeing SMG at #1. I can certainly understand why people like it so much, but Brawl is way too high and so is World of Goo.

Games on their list from each year:

2006: 1
2007: 4
2008: 6
2009: 14

I think they overrepresented 2008 and underrepresented 2007.

i thought Brawl was really bad, but I also though Melee and 64 were bad. I just buy them for the Mother characters/locations/music.

I see them once and smile to myself, and then the gameplay starts and I try to slash my wrists so that I die before I have to experience the horror. Somehow I always wake up in the hospital several days later, bitter memories of my time spent :(

I really enjoy it as a multiplayer game, but I can't do the single player. Co-op is all right too.

The fact that Galaxy has those stupid pointer slingshot and ball rolling levels automatically puts it out of the top five for me. They are just that terrible. Whoever thought those would be good ideas for levels should be fed burning hot shards of glass.

And I cannot see myself playing something like World of Goo on a console at all; playing the demo only reaffirms my stance. A toilet version may be a different story, but I still doubt I'll play it much even less make it to any of my proverbial lists.

And I just checked the list again: Where the fuck is Klonoa?! Shit like that is far better gaming than turds like Gh5 or Muramasa.

That whole Conduit situation was pretty embarrassing for IGN. I mean it was immediately clear the second it came out the reason they were hyping it up - a developer totally taking the Wii's hardcore audience seriously WOW - was a complete farce. Eventually they were going to have to acknowledge it as the cold hard failure it was, else ignore the title.

Conduit is seriously so bad. It is bad in so many numerous ways, that to like it is by definition self-delusion. You have to ignore everything that makes a FPS even remotely worthwhile to take it in and place it on a pedestal. It's like a relic of the mid 90s, only none of the good parts. It's not Quake, it's not even King Pin. It's just fucking awful.

I was curious to see what I owned (or have owned) out of their top 25

25) De Blob
24) No More Heroes
23) Wario Land: Shake It!
22) Rabbids Go Home
21) Wii Sports Resort
20) Dead Space Extraction
19) Muramasa: The Demon Blade
18) Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
17) Boom Blox: Bash Party
16) Excitebots: Trick Racing
15) Super Paper Mario
14) Lost Winds: Winter of the Melodias
13) Mario Kart Wii
12) Punch-Out!!
11) Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure
10) Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10
09) MadWorld
08) Okami
07) Guitar Hero 5
06) New Super Mario Bros. Wii
05) World of Goo
04) Twilight Princess
03) Super Smash Bros Brawl
02) Metroid Prime Trilogy
01) Super Mario Galaxy

17 out of 25, the only one I don't still own is Wario Land. I intend to buy Zack & Wiki, Boom Blox BP (I have the first), Wii Sports Resort and Punchout!! in the future. It's an OK list honestly, though, I agree when people say lists like this are pointless when a generation isn't over.

Is there something wrong with me if I did not enjoy (not enough to beat them) any one of these 25 games? I'm the worst wii owner ever.

If they only had Nights on the list..

I only played the multiplayer for 5-10 minutes, but I thought the whole bounty hunter thing was kinda neat. The single player was some sad mockery of Half-Life 2 or something. Again, I only played that part for 5-10 minutes, so I didn't get a complete view of the whole game and I don't intend to.

Anyway, Red Steel 2 is going to be similarly bad.

Of course, being credited in the game is something that should have never happened. Even though it was up to HVS to do it, clearly Matt and Mark had done a lot to get to the point where HVS thought it was a good idea to get them in the credits.

Top 5 will probably be some nintendo games... unless Nights make it :lol

the top five is already out. Right above you.

I find it hard to believe that none of those bottom 20 titles were enjoyable to you, but then again some people find it difficult to believe the Wii doesn't appeal to me much. To each their own.

What's so bad about it? I heard that GH5 Wii was the best version...
Best version = equivalent to the PS3 and 360 versions? The game simply put, is trash. Rock Band 2 should be on there and in the top 5. GH5 has no business being there over RB2 except for IGN being Activision's "Hero" game bitches.

Andrex you're fucking wrong. Stop being a bitch and go play RB2.

I'd go ahead and say 3 was the best in the GH series, but I think it's all personal preference at this point. I honestly don't think it belongs on the list, but hey, that's just me.

yawn, try harder with your joke posts. Who is going to believe someone who suggests that Nights: Journey of Shit is better than Super Mario Galaxy or any of the other titles listed?

Personal opinions. ever heard of them?

I think I'm just different since I didn't grow up with Nintendo console games. Okami though I would enjoy if there's no motion control.

What's Intelligent Systems making right now anyway?
They've been pretty busy actually, just with a lot of small projects. WiiWare, DSiWare, co-developed software, etc. Especially DSiWare.

In a list of the best Wii games GH5 takes the tech cake with SDHC card support, full DLC song streaming, and song exports. You didn't even read the entry, mang.

Uh-huh. A predominatly PS3 poster comes into a Wii thread, precedes to troll the Wii by arguing that Nights: Journey into Dreams is better than the rest of its library and then tries to exclude the PS2 Okami from this by using the motion control excuse. Uh-huh, yep. I sure do believe that you're not just a troll or joke poster, if not both.

To repeat an imagery I used previously, lets see what happens if someone goes into next weeks "Top 25 PS3 games" thread, argues that they didn't enjoy anything on the list and says that Haze is better than the rest.

1. :O that's a bit paranoid of you.
2. I personally liked Nights more than any other but that doesn't stop me from respecting other people's opinions.

Getting back to the topic, it's great to see 2 wiiware titles on the list... hopefully there will be more interesting wiiware titles in the future.

Yes. Even if it was a list of games named Super Mario Galaxy, that´s still exactly what it would mean.

World of Goo should be higher, like in the top 3. I don't mind Guitar Hero sneaking in the list, but I really don't like the music game genre. My age has made my response time far too slow. :lol

I'm not gonna laugh at people for thinking so, but there's no way SMG is better than NSMBW.

If the SMG soundtrack was set to a black screen it would still give NSMBW a run for its money.

This list make the Wii kinda... well, I dunno how it really stacks up to other Nintendo generations

gonna try to pick up some of the ones I don't own soon

is that why you dissed Super Mario Galaxy
Eh, I always find myself liking the lighter, more efficient in design games to the more ambitious ones. I mean heck I chose Minish Cap for my favorite Zelda in that favorite games of all time thread.
You have to admit Galaxy had some filler going on. The whole star flying stuff.
