I swore it was going to be GTA IV but glad it wasn't I would have picked MGS4 but Fallout 3 would have been my second choice. So good pick IGN... wait does that mean Fallout 3 is the game of the year 2008 since it got the most critic picks?

Seems like Fallout 3 and MGS4 are the less controversial choice this year, with less hate if they vote for it as GOTY.
People surprisingly hate GTA4, not happy with LBP, ignore GoW2, look down on SSBB etc.

ING fails again. I can't wait for the inflated RE5 scores every website gives the game. Fallout 3 and Bioshock are the perfect example of pretty good games that got waaaay higher scores and praise then they deserved. RE5 is next for sure.

A lot of people have cooled off on RE5, especially after playing Dead Space. The game is going to have to a hell of a lot more than the demo indicates.

Fallout 3 deserves this completely. Incredible atmosphere, awesome leveling options, great casting and sound design. And not to mention it tickles the history dork in me in my cock area.

There were plenty of games that could be GOTY for 2008, but Fallout 3 easily surpassed everything.

And the guy who said Bioshock was just "good" needs to play more games, he'll realize what an achievement it is.

So far I have been much more impressed by MGS4, but it still seems like a good game (from the 5 or 6 hours Ive played), just a bit too much like Oblivion.... Definitely wouldn't be my choice

Fallout3 was just "decent" for me.

The main quest and the ending was terrible. And you would think the game would be repayable because it has different options you can make. But when I tried to replay it I just got really bored.

didn't like it, though i liked it more than oblivion.
it's a good game, but way too depressive for me. Sometimes the open world and all the options are just toooo much for me to.

Even though MGS4 was my personal GOTY 2008, I can see why some people wouldn't like it. It's a game for MGS fans more or less. Sure they improved the controls, but half the game is completely lost on people who have never played a prior MGS game

Its the final game in a story-heavy series that had been going for over 20 years. Did you actually expect anyone who went to play it without proper knowledge of the story to understand whats going on?

Great choice, it is my GotY. I'm happy it's getting the praise it deserves, most people that hate on it obviously haven't invested enough time on the game.

I fully agree with the choice. The game might be flawed in a lot of areas but nothing else gave me so much fun for the buck. I've spent around 70 hours in the game so far and enjoyed every second of it. Looking at the map and all the locations i haven't even seen half of the game yet.

Will continue playing it in march when they raise the level cap.
