IGN's Mario Kart Wii Review

Just watched the video review. The online looks amazing. But so did the review of SSBB, so I'm gonna have to wait and judge for myself. The WiiKart Channel looks very very helpful. And, yes, I agree with Bozon. If Nintendo does this with future games, I wouldn't mind that at all. Even better would be an online channel intergrating all online Wii games.

But since that seems like a common sense solution I'm sure Nintendo will avoid it at all costs.

Yeah. Aside from the cheap 150cc AI, I'm a fan. I used tilt control only in the final version, and in the end I'm a fan of it. As you can see with Matt's comments though, it isn't for everyone, and it takes a while to get the feel of it. Like Brawl though, any control combo you can think of is included, thank god.

Online rocks.

oh shit.. GAF implosion imminent

color me surprised. The original screens definitely caught my eye as the game looked awesome, but then the bad single player reviews started coming out. Now, I actually might be picking this one up.

Just when I think IGN has completely gone to the dogs they go and do the most accurate review of MK:Wii I've seen. Kudos to them! :D

150cc no item mode
i.e. proper racing mode
GP as an unlockable and full length seasons of 12 races that I could play with friends or online would have made the game untouchable. As it is it's still my current preferred racer this gen.
Please don't fuck up F-Zero Wii Nintendo, just make sure it's as good as MK but still 100% F-Zero and no one has to die

Hey Bozon, great review!

Yes Mario Kart Wii is becoming more and more addictive for me. It is the typical kind of game that becomes better and better the more you play it. You will see after 6 month you would give it a 9 for sure.^^

Keep up the good work, man.

You only powerslide in the wrong direction if you don't tilt the wheel in the right direction while hopping.

The only thing I don't like about the wheel controls is the wheelie, because if you flick the wheel upwards you can tilt in one direction slightly, which can have some serious consequences. It's a minor gripe though.
I used to flick upwards for the wheelie, but I found it easier and more manageable by moving the entire wheel upwards, kinda like lifting a plate. This is of course if you're holding the wheel horizontally with the Wii symbol face down versus holding it traditionally.

The Wii Wheel is so much damn fun though and only adds to the shit tons of fun the game is.

Great Review Bozon. I have a question though, What would Matt Have given Mario Kart Wii after what he said about it in your review, Also was it online that saved the game from getting a 7?

Online sounds so awesome. Graphics still crappy though, but does look clean and polished.

I wonder if people complain enough, nintendo will re-release brawl with the same online functionality as mario kart wii.

This review is spot on. The game has its share of flaws, but it cannot divert from this simple fact: it is awesomely fun, for about anyone.

So you're driving truck style? Hm I may have to give it a shot. And the wheel is fun to the max - 100% wheel represent :D .

Just a shame that local play didn't turn out better. I spent hours upon hours playing MK64 battle mode, and I was hoping for more here after the disappointing battle mode in DD. Oh well, I'll pick it up just like I have every new Mario Kart game and I'll enjoy the hell out of it. See you all online! :)

MII INTEGRATION

Mii integration is all over the damn place in Mario Kart Wii. Not only for your profile pic and an unlockable character (whose weight is based on the size you created him at) but even in the scenery. You've probably noticed it a lot in the Coconut Mall stage, but every once in a while some of the statues on other tracks will have their head replaced by a random Mii's face.

I wish I had taken a picture of LuiJesus on the first track when it showed up...

Yup. It begins to make more sense as you get used to it playing with the bike. Wii Wheel ftw!

DK's voice has been drawn straight from hell. He howls like a chimera in agony, and I'm not even kidding.

:lol

Are there any videos where I can hear him?

You can turn off items and have a 12 race "season".

not sure if I like it or not. I waited until my son came back from Japan before opening it, so I only played today. (bought last week in the UK)

the wheel seems ok, but I have had that 'powerslide in the wrong direction' a few times.

My main concern is the steering. there doesn't seem much lock on it, so you understeer massively on many of the courses. That never seemed to be a problem on previous mario karts, you'd just lose a little speed. Now it seems there are corners you *have* to powerslide around or you'll go off.

and the drifts don't seem hugely controllable either - I can tighten a drift but it doesn't seem very willing to unwind it - it just doesn't feel as natural as others in the series.

do these issues go away once you're a little more settled with the game?

Yes (well, as far as I've experienced).

To ensure you powerslide in the right direction every time make sure to start the turn BEFORE pressing the B/1 button - even in mid air. Once I realised this I've never had a powerslide problem.

I don't even know if I powerslide or not, and no problem at all. It's definitely a matter of getting used to the wheel, which is a bit weird at start since we're so used to another control system

I can understand why people hate " rubber band AI" but I have always liked it in games like Mario Kart.

I've been hearing really great things about MKWii online. I pretty leary after SSBB's online disaster.

Its one of the best experiences I've had online and, yes, that includes 360, PS3 and PC games.
