IGN's Top 9 Christopher Nolan movies

I am not sure whether you are aware these are all of Nolans movies.

Still need to see Interstellar, but I mostly agree with the list. Maybe would put The Following over The Dark Knight Rises and maybe Insomnia. And Batman Begins before The Dark Knight. And Inception behind the Batman movies.

Oh I'm well aware, I was just so let down by that movie I think it should be forever forgotten.

At least most agree that Prestige should be at the top.

Also GAF hates everything so interstellar will get a lot of flak right meow, but people will like it a lot more in a few months time.

Bingo. My list.

TDKR is terrible.

Sure is.

The glaring flaw with this list is Interstellar being lower than TDKR. On ambition alone, Interstellar should not be that low.

1. The Prestige
2. Memento
3. Interstellar
3. Batman Begins
5. The Dark Knight
5. Insomnia
7. Inception
8. TDKR
9. Following

I've never seen The Prestige. I guess I have to now. Is it as much as a mindfuck as his other movies?

The Prestige is my favorite movie. I went into it blind (didn't know who was in it, who directed, etc.) and I re-watch it about twice a year. It's just so good.

Memento above Prestige? DKR above Interstellar? Da fuck?

You haven't seen Good Will Hunting?!

I have. It just slipped my mind. My memory sucks.

That's the best one, too.

EDIT: Just looked at his IMDB page, and I've seen pretty much all of his dramatic roles. I thought I was missing some. I didn't finish The Fisher King, because I didn't like it.

Memento is so overrated

Every Nolan movie is overrated but Memento is probably his best nonetheless.

The
duplicating machine
in The Prestige is pretty dumb, ruined the movie a little bit for me. Makes no scientific sense whatsoever, and that's hard to stomach in such a self-serious movie that isn't in the fantasy genre.

Memento as #1? Yeah, gotta disagree. His worst movie by far IMO.

1. TDK
2. Inception
3. The Prestige
4. Batman begins
5. TDKR
6. Memento

Haven't seen Interstellar, Insomnia or Following yet.

I haven't seen Memento but I think I've spoiled it for myself by watching some parodies on the internet.

Watch Memento. It is not just about story (which is pretty spoiler-proof anyway), but it is especially about its brilliant foreboding atmosphere. I love the film to death.

Insomnia... it is his "simplest", least ambitious film. Still fantastic though.

Dark Knight Rises should be the last on the list.

It's such a terrible movie from start to finish. It had so many scenes that made no sense, a twist that was utterly predictable, and so many mischaracterizations.

It was basically Nolan's way of telling everyone that he didn't want to make another Batman movie. So he took Batman out of it for three quarters of the movie.

According to who? You? If it has fantastical elements, it's fantasy. You should read up on "Magical Realism"

inception's shit though. that should be near the bottom with dark knight rises. i'd probably replace inception with interstellar and it would be my list.

Batman Begins is a way better film than the Dark Knight. Heath was awesome but the movie was like an hour and a half too long.

Agreed. The only way you rate that movie high is to title it "Joker scenes".

Hey guys, instead of going down the path of arguing about opinions where no one will ever admit they're wrong, even after 50 pages, how about we celebrate this rather incredible body of work. Why posts our own list? No one really cares all that much.

Don't be useless bitches.

I'll start us off:

Look at this kick-ass movie poster
interstellar.jpg

Look at these beautiful shots

Remember the time you didn't overthink Inception and, instead, got caught up in how amazing this ending was

How fucking excellent was this dude?

Can we discuss how he always succeeds at making these movies better by just being in them? Is having him in these movies basically cheating? Should we discuss the fact that he may support a theory that these movies exist in the same universe?

1. The Prestige
2. Batman Begins
3. Interstellar
4. Inception
5. The Dark Knight Rises
6. The Dark Knight
7. Memento
X. Insomnia & Following (haven't seen yet)

Interstellar really that bad? I guess that saves me some money.
No, it's not, don't listen to the snob GAF hate machine. It's the best and pretty much only hard sci-fi blockbuster we've had in forever, the visuals are astounding, the score is fantastic, and performances, although predictable for each actor, were solid.
Most fun I've had at the theatre in ages.

Decent list. Mine is as follows, omitting those I've not seen - 3 and 4 are about even.

1) Prestige
2) Memento
3) Batman Begins
4) Insomnia
5) Inception
6) Following
7) Dark Knight

1. The Prestige
2. Memento
3. Batman Begins
4. The Dark Knight
5. Inception
6. Insomnia
7. Interstellar
8. Following
9. The Dark Knight Rises

There's a pretty big drop off after Batman Begins IMO.

You mean after The Prestige? It came out after BB

(I agree).

Edit: Oh wait you meant in terms list ranking lol

But the movie doesn't present it as fantasy. It presents it as a scientific invention by a famous electrical and mechanical engineer.
"Pardon me, it's very rare to see real magic".

The film is about radical technical advancement and its sense of wonder. If you can actually clone a person or not is irrelevant. To the average person at the time, it's as impossible as it is to create lightning in a room.

I haven't seeing Following or Interstellar yet, but everything else seems spot on. Needless to say, I now feel tainted for agreeing with IGN.

Not bad. Only changes I'd make is Following > TDKR, TDK > BB > Inception, and Prestige > Memento.

Have not seen interstellar.

Edit:
1. Prestige
2. Memento
3. TDK
4. Batman Begins
5. Inception
6. Following
7. TDKR

I don't like that list

Here is mine

1. The Prestige
2. Interstellar
3. Memento
4. Batman Begins
5. The Dark Knight Rises
6. Inception
7. The Dark Knight

Interstellar was his return to FORM to what he was before.

None of these movies are bad, they are not even OK, they are good to best

Awesome post. Does the ranking really matter? In my eyes he has never really done a bad film. One of the few directors that I will see anything they release day one, no trailer needed.

He takes crazy ideas and uses pretty large budgets to see them come to life. We need more directors and studios taking chances with their movies, and even biting off a little more than they can chew sometimes. I don't want perfect movies. I want unforgettable movies.
