IGN's Top 9 Christopher Nolan movies

The Prestige is his best movie no doubt about that, I still think TDKR is his worst movie yet isn't a bad one, just incredibly disappointing after the game changer that was TDK.

I still need to see Interstellar though.

I agree with Memento, and The Prestige would be up there too. TDK though I don't feel holds up very well in repeat viewings if it weren't for Ledger's brilliant performance. Begins was better IMO.

Following at number 9??

For me:

1) Memento
2) Following
3) The Dark Knight
4) The Prestige
5) Inception
6) Batman Begins
7) The Dark Knight Rises
8) Interstellar
9) Insomnia

Insomnia, Prestige, Memento and TDK are my favourite Nolan movies. And, in fact, some of my favourite movies of all time.

Insomnia in particular is hugely underrated IMO. Whilst a straightforward thriller in many ways, the film is absolutely dripping with atmosphere and the score is superb. I've seen it several times and it totally sucks me in every time. It's also Pacino's only decent performance in his 'coasting to retirement' period, he captures the part perfectly. Also - as with One Hour Photo - Robin Williams is cast surprisingly well as the bad guy. And to top it all, it is beautifully shot. Definitely an unforgettable film for me, I'm surprised it's so low down on everyone else's lists.

I haven't seen Interstellar yet, but from the reviews I have concerns that Nolan has finally been truly sucked in to the Hollywood machine that was previously only reserved for his Batman movies. I hope this isn't the case and I look forward to seeing the movie myself and making my own opinion.

My ranking Nolan's films:

1. The Dark Knight
2. The Prestige
3. Insomnia
4. Batman Begins
5. Inception
6.Interstellar
7.The Dark Knight Rise

IGN made a pretty good list though

I like all of his films. I'd have to go:

1. The Prestige
2. Interstellar
3. Inception
4. The Dark Knight
5. Memento
6. Batman Begins
7. Insomnia
8. TDKR
9. Following

Surprisingly good list! Haven't seen Interstellar yet and would drop Inception one or two spots, but other than that I concur.

I've never seen The Prestige. I guess I have to now. Is it as much as a mindfuck as his other movies?
Not at all. The magic is just a backdrop for a nice little character piece. It's my second favorite Nolan movie, after Interstellar! :o

But I've learned the trick to enjoying his films: think in themes and don't focus too much on the plot. The latter is only there to serve the former, and it's quite flexible. Also, expect clunky dialog.

Sadly, I literally fell asleep watching Insomnia both times I tried watching it...the irony. I just can't seem to get into it :( My favorite Nolan films are Prestige, Memento, Dark Knight, and Interstellar in that particular order.

Insomnia is so fucking boring god damn, and I can't take (RIP) Williams as a villian seriously.

But I don't think is a bad movie at all.

My list is better.
5. Inception
Quite possibly the smartest action movie you will ever see. The concept is so out of this world that there are flowcharts created to show how the dream layers work.

4. The Prestige
This is one of Nolan's fully realized films. The whole movie sets you up for the final act, and what a brilliant final act. David Bowie as Tesla is such a fantastic casting decision that only a madman can come up with.

3. The Dark Knight

In my opinion the greatest superhero movie ever made. Nothing comes remotely close except Begins. Why I ranked this in top 3 is because of a few things: Harvey Dent's character, Batman realizing his limit, and of course Joker. There's electricity in the air the moment Joker is in the scene and it's extremely hard to deny the fact that Joker-Batman relationship will never be this good in any other superhero movie with hero-villain relationship. Oh and Joker's theme also will never be topped. Ever.

2. Memento

What I like about the movie is not the reverse chronological order. But the crazy expose scene near the end/start. A completely layered experience that you do not get from movies at all. Now...where as I?

1. Insomnia

This is such an absolutely terrific movie. I think the delirium that sets in with insomnia is so brilliantly captured, and the constant daylight in Alaska is just as big of an antagonist as Robin Williams in his best role to date. This is the best cat and mouse movie you will see in your life and it cannot be topped. Forget Godfather/Scarface, Al Pacino was born for this role.

You can't be serious about Insomnia are you?

Forget Godfather Pacino for this "on autopilot" Pacino?

Jeez....

:P

lol i like the movie but he lost me there. wtf. godfather al pacino is one of the GOAT performances.

insomnia al pacino is just another weary old cop, not bad but it was already done much better in heat.

Since we're all doing lists:

1. Memento
2. The Dark Knight
3. The Prestige
4. Batman Begins
5. Inception
6. Insomnia
7. Following
8. The Dark Knight Rises

Insomnia separates men from children.

Funny you say this since I think of myself as a 30+ year old kid lol.

:P

Godfather Pacino was so hypnotizing that when he has scenes with Brando I always felt like they were making pure art while filming, still do.

He was not just another weary cop, but a weary, dirty cop suffering from insomnia. Godfather Pacino is goat, but so is Insomnia. I have watched the movie over 4 times and it's my favorite Pacino performance just because it's so subdued. For reference I watched Godfather 3 times...

I have seen the light. Prestige is Nolan's best movie. As mindbending as Inception was it wasn't as subtly deep as Prestige. I will watch Interstellar this weekend.

I cant watch DKRises all the way through. I've tried, but since I saw it in theaters I dont think I can go through it again, it is definitely his worst film.
