I love how suddenly this thread is about mocking Republicans. This isn't socialism. It's charity. My goodness. Last I checked, Republicans are not anti-charity.

Anyway, awesome kid. Great feel good story.

Liberal GAF is running scared about the election.

The Republican-hate is reaching fever pitch.

Came into the thread expecting a story about excess, came away feeling real good *round of applause*

Honestly, if he had spent it all on ridiculous things, I wouldn't have facepalmed at all. Think about what your priorities were as a kid.

Having said that, this is ridiculously heartwarming. Kudos to the boy.

Seriously. The whole point of socialism is that the government forces people to do it because a lot of the time, they won't do it voluntarily. This is clearly a good kid, and you don't have to have a particular colour of politics to believe in doing good deeds with money.

Children are the only thing completely true and pure in this world. I feel bad they have to grow up in it.

This statement does not really describe the actual behavior of children, or adults for that matter.

Kids are expert liars before they know how to write their name, and adults are capable of selfless acts, as well as leading good, pure lives. It's just not very easy because adults have a lot more to worry about. I love this story but let's not get carried away. ;p

Makes me think of this NDT quote.

Neil deGrasse Tyson said:
Kids are never the problem. They are born scientists. The problem is always the adults. They beat the curiosity out of the kids. They out-number kids. They vote. They wield resources. That's why my public focus is primarily adults.

Ah well, maybe I just don't know enough adults that don't suck.

Makes me think of this NDT quote.

I love that man.

I've been thinking that people are all born inherently aligning with socialist ideals.

Wish we could all grow up and not let that cynicism, prejudice, greed, and hatred seep in.

Take a childhood development course and you'll come to know that children are evil little things that must be broken and reshaped into human beings by a society.

I was expecting porn magazines or something like that.

Everything went better than expected.jpg

The hate in this particular thread is probably related to the fact that the Republicans are hellbent on preventing the existence of a United States in which 8-year-olds don't have to donate their fucking scavenger hunt prizes to pay for a 2-year-old's life-saving medical care.

Good luck in November.

People defending capitalism here in the side discussion going on miss the big issue: it should not be up to charity whether or not people can afford such a treatment. Rich people should not have the right to decide who gets or doesn't get medical help in such tragic cases.

So yeah, great kid, heartwarming story, it makes you believe that such moral grandeur can eventually lead to a political consciousness in defense of a more collective economic system.

Feel good stories are awesome :)

charity isn't a socialist ideal. even lower case. being a capitalist doesn't mean I'm against being charitable towards my fellow man. i think most people are charitable and very few would not want to help their fellow man if they had the resources. people trying to turn this into a political bat are dead wrong. For all the people slagging on republicans, they give more to charity than democrats/liberals.
Socialism and socialists have everything to do with charity. EVERYTHING.

Republicans only give more because they actually have more money and need to fund their crazy churches.

Damn, this brings a tear to my eye, literally. The beauty of youth and innocence and young friendship. When you're that little your friends mean the world, man. You haven't been stabbed in the back by assholes, no one has slandered you, everybody wants to play and hang out... its just so pure. Then you get old and life experience fucks over that innocence and unhesitating willingness to give and love freely.

As a dude who once had a huge heart as a kid and has watched himself become more cynical and bitter over the past six years this shit hits me hard. We should all be there for our friends.

if this kid can give $1000 away to help his neighbour then why the fuck is so much of the US opposed to universal healthcare?

Amen to that.
