I still visit Kankakee fairly often, just because even though I lived in Chebanse, and went to school in Central, I've always had a greater affinity for the Kankakee area...just not enough to live there.

But anyone from there knows Boz's Italian beef is worth driving 90 minutes for!

There's a tiny place on North Street near the railroad called the Windy Hill Grill. They have the Italian Beef Crown.

If you've ever ventured into certain parts of Will county, the accent gets thick, and the confederae flags thicker.

Chicago-Gaf is always welcome.

I live in the more urban part of Will County (Naperville-Bolingbrook border, basically), but once you get south of Joliet, you've basically entered Central IL, which looks/acts no different than most people's stereotypical view of midwesterners.

Yo, Dupage County over here. I live just a little north of Glen Ellyn, a comfy distance away from Chicago proper.

The competitive Smash Bros. scene here is healthy and keeps me going day to day, not to mention the nearby Brookfield Zoo, Six Flags, Galloping Ghost Arcade, and all the Chicago food you could want.

When the Cubs won the world series there weren't crowds in the streets, but fireworks were popping like it was the 4th of July, lol.

Hey, guys!

Born and raised in Decatur, left for boot camp when I was 18 and never looked back. I've spent time in Champaign-Urbana, and now I reside in the great city of Chicago.

I'm in Champaign. There's a good number of us around.

Same as in you also work at Volition, or same is in you live in Champaign?

EDIT: Also, crazy that you grew up in Brocton. I had a classmate back in school that lived there. Weird that they came to Oakland, while I assume by your post that you went to Paris?

Born and raised in Joliet but now living in Germany after studying and living in Wisconsin for 13 years. I'm a die-hard Cubs fan who grew up watching Sandberg on WGN. Going back for the first time in two years this July and I'm super excited. Going to take my wife to Wrigley for the first time where she will proudly be wearing her Baez shirsey.

It's crazy how much enrollment at EIU has dropped. I lived in Charleston for a few years and delivered pizza for Papa Johns. We spent most of our nights running to the various dorms. When I heard Taylor Hall (and another I don't remember the name of) had closed, it blew my mind. Having those huge buildings sitting there empty is fucking nuts.

EDIT: Looking online, looks like they actually reopened Taylor Hall, but Carman is still closed?

Born and raised in California (lived in Norcal and Socal), moved to northern Illinois in 2012. Now I'm living in Waukegan and working in Vernon Hills.

Central Illinois, west of Springfield. It's a little funny and strange entering a thread and recognizing pretty much every area that people are talking about.

I've been going to college and living mostly in Wisconsin the last five years, but I grew up in the northwest suburbs, Barrington.

Crazy to see how many people are from the Land of Lincoln

Wassup bro, I'm mega close!

Born and raised in Gurnee/Waukegan
Been living in antioch the last few years
Work in Barrington at Heinen's
Hi friend, I can't imagine how frustrating it must be having to turn onto rt 59 every single day. You must have the patience of a saint.

Man, I'm not one of those people who dream about moving away from Illinois. But, I can't imagine moving here from California, especially up north.

I used to be a drug guinea pig in Waukegan. Didn't really spend any time there other than the place we tested at, the hotel, and the train station, though.

Born and raised in New Mexico, moved all over due to husbands job in wind, currently living near Peru, Illinois. Your streets suck guys, seriously lol

Yeah, it really sucks. I love my time spent here (class sizes aren't too big, met plenty of really great friends).

Can confirm Taylor is still open.

I live near Joliet. And anyone who hasn't been to Ghalloping Ghosts is missing out.

Seconded. Doesn't have a lot of the newer machines, but it's still an amazing experience. I wish The Grid got a console port.

When I was going to EIU I worked at that Staples in Mattoon for a good ~5 years, is it still around? Also - I love me some Mchugh's, oh and the original Burger King!

No, Staples closed down a while back. A good number of places have gone out of business in the last few years in Charleston and Mattoon. New businesses are moving in, though. Which is weird. Seems like a pretty big gamble with EIU struggling like they are.

Welp now I feel old! Enjoy your time at EIU, I look back on the years I spent there fondly. Those Chubbies stix...phew.

No kidding? Wow, I know SPLS as a whole was struggling but that one was well managed when I worked there.

Grew up in the west suburbs. Went to Fenwick for two months, hated it, went to Hinsdale Central, then my parents sent me to boarding school in Pennsylvania and I never took up residency in Illinois again after the age of 16.

Yeah, Staples closed end of last year. October according to what I'm reading online. Had a friend who was working there at the time. They offered some of them jobs at the Champaign store. But, who the fuck is going to make the hour drive for a minimum wage job.

Chubby's pizza is fucking great. They skimp on toppings like a mother fucker, though. If you don't ask for extra toppings, you'll get like 1 piece of sausage per slice, literally. I actually thought they went out of business, too, but apparently not. Crazy.

Extreme temperature changes will do that. Water turns to ice turns to cracks turns to potholes, and that's not to mention the damage salt can do.

Born in Dixon, moved to Aurora as a kid, going to school in Chicago now. I'll probably be in Rockford in a few years.

You go to ASH@WIT?

Edwardsville originally before I fucked up and moved to Springfield like a decade ago. The only thing the Capitol actually has going for it is the Lincoln stuff, everything else is bars and a handful of good pizza joints.

Lived in Chicago (Lincoln Park), Glenview, Northbrook, Niles, Grayslake, Gurnee, Antioch, Waukegan, Evanston and Winnetka. Recently moved back to Gurnee.

GO CUBS.

Live in Charleston. Work in Mattoon. Surprised how many on GAF live around here.
I grew up/went to school in Mattoon through HS

Country cruised a lot - check
Broke into Ashmore Estates on acid - check
OG Burger Kang - check
Shot a deer - check

Charleston is cool too, we used to 'cruise the strip' between the HS and McDs on Lincoln. The spillway is a sweet spot to fish.

I miss it sometimes, I could reeeeally go for a horseshoe right about now. (Or some Casey's pizza)
