I'm a PC Gamer and I prefer to Use a Controller...

Well, yes and no. It doesn't seem as a big a disadvantage because the average online player in most games is mediocre and you can compensate by just being better at the actual game, but in, say, a CS:GO match against half decent players you'd have no chance at all.

See, I haven't played Counterstrike in over a decade, so that particular wrinkle doesn't come up. I'm fine with keyboard and mouse, I started gaming on PC(though, when I started the keyboard was used more than the mouse), but I just feel like a controller is more comfortable.

Vast majority of people never break into the top-level of play where the control format is a deciding factor and I don't really do much worse in shooters playing with a controller than I do with KB&M.

I tried finding a good lap setup, but nothing works well. Totally impractical for me to have a KBM setup on my PC via my TV. Been using a controller exclusively now for five years or more.

I played Dead Rising 1 on PC with keyboard and mouse and was headshotting everything with ease, even though melee is a big factor. Games with aiming mechanics generally are more enjoyable this way. Also I played Dark Souls 3 with k/m, never did I think I would do that.

I honestly can't do FPS games on a controller - don't get how people can. I tried some Battlefield on my roommate's Xbox and it's like... man! I felt like I was playing with one of those claw machines, everything so stiff and sluggish. And he always plays sniper, too. Dunno how he can do it.

Honestly the Wii FPS is the only control scheme that's ever come close to KBM. Even the "motion aided" stuff like Splatoon feels way too slow for me.

Shooters, RPGs, and strategy games just need it in my opinion. Controllers just feel inefficient. Other genres are better suited to a controller 99% of the time though.

I do too

K/M is for work

I went through the same transition a few years ago. It took me about a year and a half before I became competitive on PC with a mouse and keyboard and I'm 36 so it's not like I have a ton of time to play these days. If you're younger u can probably do it quicker. When I play BF now I'm always in the top 10 (I always seem to come in 6th place for some reason. Lol) so u can definitely adapt. All the skills and strategy still work the same but u have to build muscle memory. My best advice to u is to try and match your sensitivity in every FPS u play. U can only really do it by measuring how many inches it take for u to do a full 360 with the mouse. After I did this my skills just took off.

thanks, will try what you have suggested because i really want to embrace the full PC experience with mouse and keyboard

It's kind of a pain to set up with specific drivers etc. but PS3 Nav controller + Mouse is a pretty excellent way to play singleplayer FPS

I'm currently hoping Dishonored 2 works as well as Dishonored 1 in that regard :]

Yeah, I used to fall back on workarounds like this, just for the sake of analog movement. Steam Controller streamlines things a ton though, and I don't regret switching over. I mean, there's still effort to put in with configurations, but the fact that Steam handles input mapping, and gives options like mode shifting makes it a lot easier to get games working with it. Definitely a nice alternative for those who prefer a comfy input device, but not at the loss of mouse-like precision.

Playing Dark Souls on a keyboard is worse than playing DOOM on a controller. You should be ashamed.

I play with my keyboard on my lap and a mouse mat next to me on my sofa. Not exactly hard. Mouse plugs into my keyboard which is handy.

Oh and I play games such as Arma 3, DayZ etc.

I'll quite happily use a controller for certain genres, but stuff like FPS and RTS are obvious KB/M games through and through.

Steam controller is really the perfect middle ground in games that work well with it.

I use all my controllers DS4, XB1, Steam controller and KB/M depending on what I like for the game but the steam controller quickly became my vastly preferred one to use, it's amazing when you get used to it.

I use a controller whenever possible on PC. I work for a software company so I spend all day typing and using a trackball and my wrists really hate coming home and playing with a mouse/keyboard. Have had some issues with repetitive strain type pain the past few years. Unfortunately my favorite genre is AARPG and they are really not great with a controller on PC. I tried a steam controller for diablo and that just felt bad. Grim dawn is Ok with a controller but still feels not super great. I really hope for diablo 5 they bring that console controller support to the PC. I still tend to use mouse and keyboard for FPS on PC just because it doesn't put nearly the strain on my wrists as AARPG and even MMO do.

Solution to what? You said you already have a controller and prefer using it.

EDIT: ah, you mean solution for using kb and mouse comfortably for the operating system? I use a Bluetooth keyboard with a big Logitech touchpad literally taped onto it. It's great.

I love using my controller for most games.Controllers remove so much janky movement you get with M&Kb, the witcher 3 I couldnt stand playing with m&kb. On the other hand, I grew up playing unreal tournament and cs so I really don't want to play any shooters involving a controller. Playing Uncharted 4 right now with aim assist and easiest difficulty since the gunplay is unbearable for me with a controller. I like the story and the platforming tho so I still enjoy the game. RTS and some simulators with a controller is a no go too.

Yes, I know KB&M is superior, especially for FPS... but like many nowadays, my PC is connected to my TV and it's a pain in the ass being hunched over with my KB and mouse on the coffee table. Are there any solution (thought about trying one of the car desks but I dunno if that would really work. Also thought about getting a new coffee table that raises up... but those tend to be pretty big. I dunno, my Xbox One controller has been getting the job done, I don't play competitive MP.
as do I

I usually roll with M+KB, but some games I prefer gamepad on. Doom with the Elite Controller and Jump tied to the bottom left paddle was great. I was destroying people in multiplayer.

Xbox One controller all the way except for the obvious choices. I started out as a KB and M but got away from that as console player player for years and when I went back to PC for most games now I was just more comfortable with it.

Always despised using a controller, also the reason why I never touch any of my consoles.

Regret buying a ps4 day one considering I only used it to play Bloodborne so far, which I haven't played since release week due to my aforementioned dislike of controllers.

Bought a Wii U for Bayonetta and gave up 45 minutes in.

Use whatever you want op, don't think there is an efficient solution to your problem though.

Will only ever use MK/B on MP FPS games or the occasional game that doesn't support controllers. Which I rarely play anyway.

It's just not comfortable in long sessions.
