In what world would Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover model Brooklyn Decker be considered too big?

That would be the world of model, according to Decker, voted No. 1 in Women's Health Magazine's "Best Summer Bodies."

I think you may be exaggerating just a bit, obese hippos are no more "normal" than Taylor Swift's body type which is basically non-existent. When people say a girl is too skinny, they're not talking about women like in the OP, she still has some much needed meat to her body and doesn't look like Skeletor.

I just ask because whenever I see most women (most especially in the US) call themselves "Curvy", they seem to think that is because of being very much obese (ie. a very large "curve" around their waist).

The reason it's "often to big" is because models smaller in size are easier to create clothes for; both in time spent making them and cost of materials. The clothes are made to fit a specific sized woman and woman who are very very skinny generally have the same body type. Where as woman who have curves may have bigger breasts, hips, butt etc.. This way they can just make the clothes and since all models fit a specific size do only minor alterations before a show.

If they modeling industry used size 4 woman who have curves, they would still need to be very specific and only take woman who are size 4 with X-sized breasts, X-sized hips, X-sized waist etc..
