"...I'm a size 4. In modeling, that's often too big."

To (sorta) quote the dearly departed Robert B. Parker, the body of the average model can often be "very slim, the kind women admire and men don’t" for a reason. Men aren't the primary target audience for the product being sold in the modeling world and, sadly, certain women desire thinness to a ridiculous extent. But there is some method to the madness, buried beneath the layers of dubious requirements: it's probably easier to produce designer clothing for presentation in bulk to fit the frame of waifs rather than the varying builds of voluptuous women - as voluptuous as they may be, even in this case.

I am man enough for her gaf. She needs me to feel happy about herself. Only I understand her weight issuesand see her true beauty beneath the rolls of fat.
Come to me, my plump little tigress. Let me show you my comic collection before we make love...
I bet she likes Sandman.

After the fat/skinny thread of people Gaf would like to smash, and now this thread too, I'm concerned about people's perceptions of what constitutes a fat woman.

I am convinved that most of GAF have never seen a naked woman in real life. Their entire view on what woman look like is based on all those retouched, photoshopped, plastic-looking, skinny women they see on the internet.
So true.

Or for girls and adolescent teens, the magazine covers.

The question young girls/women looking at these impossible to achieve "role model bodies" should be asking themselves should not be "what can I do to look like that?" but "what did they do to make her look like that?"

Are you equally worried about young men looking at the insanely buff dudes on the covers of Esquire and Men's Health magazines and asking themselves "what can I do to look like that?" I don't think most girls try to look like famous models or actresses. If they did, they wouldn't be an obesity epidemic in America. The number of anorexic women in America is miniscule. It absolutely pales in comparison to the number of overweight and obese women in America. I think girls just try to look like their peers.

Brooklyn Decker's spread from Sports Illustrated 2009, is still set as my Official Xbox Live Dashboard Theme. Yes, that's right.

Well ive been told there's no actual definition of dress sizes and stores label them as they please, including often writing smaller sizes on the labels than women would expect so women feel attractive and thin and willing to spend money. She could very well wear dresses that say size 4 on the tag.

Size inflation goes on in both sexes and has since the 80's. The clothing industry, in an attempt to cater to America's obesity problem, has bumped up all men's sizes. Extra Small is what Small used to be. Small is medium. The fact that we have anything above XXL is shameful.
