I'm addicted to cracking my knuckles

I can't stop and I do it all the time.

In fact sometimes I'll do it without even realising it.

I've tired to make an effort to stop but never follow through with it.

It really can't be good for you doing it multiple times a day every day for years right? My mum reckons I'm going to develop arthritis or it that just a myth?

I crack the knuckles in both hands using just the one hand exactly like this:

Anyone else do this?

Studies have shown cracking your knuckles has no permanent or long term affects.

So crack away cracky mcccrackerson.

I crack my knuckles, elbow, neck and knees constantly.

If i want to get real freaky I'll crack my whole foot too.

The arthritis thing is just a myth. Though I have arthritis....AND I CRACK MY JOINTS! Anecdotal evidence ahoy!!!

No really, it's safe.

As I slowly read the title, I was becoming excited to read this thread only to be let down faster than the speed of gravity.
On topic, I used to crack my knuckles all the time. I have no clue why I stopped it.

I crack any joints I can regularly and derive great pleasure out of it. I suffered a major laceration to my wrist 6 years ago and now that wrist has "infinite" pops. I can sit there and crack it for hours and it just keeps going. Pretty cool I guess. I used to be able to crack the "ball" of my foot, you know, that joint that leads to the big toe. Super satisfying. And neck/back cracking is one of life's little pleasures. Never gets old

I crack my knuckles, elbows, toes, knees, ankles, back, neck. You're fine, the sound is nitrogen gas if I'm remembering correctly. It releases tension for me and I'm just very clicky in general as is my Dad (who is a doctor that I've spoken about this recently to him).

That said, if it concerns you go and speak to a doctor about it to put any concerns to rest

Edit: Cracking my back is one of the greater pleasures in life and I have even elicited a crack out of my sternum which was definitely strange

Been doing this since high school. I can also do the knuckle crack where you just make a fist and make them all go at once.

I always get tempted to go to my high school just so I can sit in those desks to crack my back.

I crack everything I can daily... ankle, all the joints in my hand, elbow when possible, neck, etc. I crack my fingers and hands whenever I have to sit in traffic to give my hands something to do.

While I can't crack my knuckles, I have a cracky body. It seems every year I find a new way to crack a joint. Cracking hip joints is the best one.

I'm a cracking addict. Neck, back, shoulders, elbows, wrists, fingers, knees, toes, ankles multiple times a day. Drives my family nuts. I know it doesn't really have any negative health effects but I'm doing it so much I'm starting to think it might be a genuine obsession.

It's pretty well known. Any physiologist, chiropractic practitioner or remedial therapist will tell you that cracking joints is totally harmless.

I usually crack my knuckles, neck and back. Back is the easiest and most rewarding if you learn to do it in a safe manner.

I used to do it only when angry or stressed, but I've been doing a lot more often lately, and yes, much in the same way as Yamori/Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul.

Asking for a source is not aggressive. Feel like my question got some defensive posts.

I'd rather not ask a chiropractor anything.

At least you look cool like Kaneki

Same—I do it all the time. Neck too. I used to be obsessed with clicking (I call it clicking, not cracking) my jaw as well.

I crack everything. Sometimes my hands don't function properly until I've done it :/ But then when I try to stave off cracking - when I eventually go to crack and there's no sound I am overcome with sadness.

It's the best. I used to do it in the middle of exams when I was in school. Nothing funnier than in a completely silent room/lecture hall suddenly having a loud cracking sound as and people turning towards the sound.

I do it everywhere, but it fucked my neck up a bit. If i rotate my head its like there sand in it, it grinds along. I used to crack my neck so loud that people around me though i broke something in there. My elbow crack is still loud as hell.

The sound is generally caused by the formation of cavitations.
