I'll buy a PS3 in the near future (this weekend), but I come from a disapointment whit the 360's hardware problems, I bought 4 of them NEW and ALL of the RROD on me, so I'm being careful now and want to make the best purchase I can, so, can you tell me if a model in particular is suffering some issue or in general, what should I be looking for and stuff?, I need your help, I don't want to experience again my problems with the Xbox.

I want to buy the 40gb model from amazon, if you need to know.

They're all pretty solid. :\

I've heard problems with the drive (not reading BD), and the power source (excuse my english), in some of them, paticularly in the 40gb model, so I wanted to know if this is true/happens often.

The only problem I've had is every now and again, I'll come out of folding or I'll stop a movie I'm streaming and it'll freeze for what seems like forever. Then I have to restart it, although one time, I went to restart it and it finally started working again. So it could mean that I'm just impatient. But other than that, no problems at all. 40gb model, btw

No it doesn't.

Which is pretty much the only model around. You are fine as far as reliability (all models are equally well made), but you will need a HDMI or other HD cable.

If it does happen it has to be increadably rare cause you would of heard that shit here first and all other news areas and forums.

It's really well constructed. If you are going to have a problem with it, it will be with the Blu-Ray diode, which Sony will just go ahead and fix for you. I bought a 60GB late last year and have yet to have any problems with it. I watch two or three Blu-ray movies per week.

I've never heard this. The PS3 is very reliable. There will always be the odd system that will break down but by and large the PS3 hardware is problem free.

if you can find a 60 gig PS3, you will never have any problems with it. If you buy 80 gig then some PS2 games wont work on it, but almost all of them do. If you buy 40 gig you cant play PS2 games. Other than BC confusion, it is the Toyota Hilux of consoles.

Hardware issues? What hardware issues?

But seriously, there are some reports of disc-read errors, or systems running way too loud for some reason, but they're miniscule in comparison to...other...things.

My PS3 has gone through two very rough incidents. Obviously they weren't intentional.

Still works like it's new. I've probably logged a 1,000 hours or so on it.

... but even if you do get a problem, just get it fixed.

I can't get it fixed, I'm not from USA, and have no support here, so if it breaks I'd have to send it to USA and pay the stupdly expensive freight and taxes TWICE.

You spent $1600 on the Xbox 360 system?!

Yes, I couldn't get it fixed, and didn't want to pay to send it to the states for warranty, so I'd sold them cheap and bought another.

Well I can certainly understand your concern. But in all honesty the PS3 is very reliable. Yeah there's the odd system that has the Blu-ray drive fail but those are really exceptional and it's not like the rampancy of the RROD issue.

I understand you, I got 2 x360 and both died on me and there's not MS support here where I live :/

PS3 is a pretty well built console. I have both my 1st retail and test unit. I can not say the same for other consoles. If you can find one pick up a 60gig. Target is notorious for still having them on the shelf.

Fair enough... I think you'd be ok. No hardware is failureproof though.

My PS3's laser died after one month of use. Next-gen gaming is not fail proof.

Ceiling cat is getting worn out!

Honestly, do you think your situation represents the hundreds of thousands who own PS3's? Millions? I'm sure it does not.

That could have happened with any previous generation system...

The PS3 is about as reliable as you can expect a machine of such capabilities to be. By and large, people are not having issues with it. Problems can occur, but they are rare.

I think he was just making the point that even though PS3 is one of the most reliable consoles around, there is always a chance of a failure. Pretty simple really and applies to all modern electronics, regardless of build quality.

Well, he's pointing that HIS ps3 laser died. I don't see anything wrong with that statement.

To the OP, the ps3 reliability is very high, so i would go for it.

Maybe some one can help me. My ps3 is hooked up through components (old tv) My games run and look fine. but everytime i try to watch a movie blue-ray or regulard dvd there is like a purple film over the screen. Does anybody know why this happens and how can i fix it? besides buying a new tv and hooking it up through hdmi. Please help i have a few movies that i cant even watch.

Most of them are rock solid.

Some of the first 60GB models to roll off the line have a problem with the fans kicking into overdrive at the 10 minute mark and pretty much drowning out the room. I had one that was like that and it was annoying. The system worked fine, but the sound of the fans was too much. I gave that one to my dad and got a 40GB model for myself and it is deathly silent at all times, even after its been on for a couple of hours straight.

Right, nothing is fail proof. Thus, why post that his is dead, as though it is evidence that there is something wrong. Do you not follow jett? He is in fact Mr. Negativity, and he's posted about his broken PS3 in dozens of threads over the past few weeks.

That sounds like your component cables are mixed up to me.

To my knowledge, the most common problem is optical drive-related (which should be the most common issue given normal standards).

That said, it doesn't happen often. Its well within normal QC standards in terms of fault-rates.
