and actually, living in space like this is not new to me, when i used to live in Toronto, i used to live in shared house downtown with 15 rooms in a house, and my room was basically about the same size as mine now.[/QUOTE]

I lived in a room close to that size for 2 years. (~85sq ft - Dorm room at uni). Don't know if I could do it now.

How much rent do you pay, if you don't mind me asking? Is there a possibility of renting long term storage spaces in HK?

Awww… This is kind of cute. Wouldn't have minded living in one of these during college or even right after.

I could buy a plot of land and pack like 10 of these puppies in and rent out to students. Profit!
I kind of want to buy some land, build something small like that. Hook up electricity, water, sewage, communication.

I wonder how much it would cost.

That's smaller then my bathroom.

:P

I'm moving into a 650sqft apartment by myself in a couple of weeks and it seems tiny, lol. Good luck, OP!

The key is to find someone who has land that is willing to let you setup camp at that is already developed, like a ranch or horse properties. I found some properties that will let me do it for about $100 a month.

as i said, mine is not as bad as the photos on my first post, im actually moving from a 2bedroom + living room space into this, the key is to not have too much junk in the room, make it knee and organize and things will work out! And i do have my own bathroom and toilet.

My dorm room in college was maybe double the size of that, but was still livable. This doesnt even look that bad if all youre doing is surfing the web and sleeping there. My only thing is the kitchen and bathroom. I don't like sharing :(

i like the lighting in your room.

Thank you, i always try to make things look nice with different lighting

AND I DO have a bathroom and toilet all on my own within the room, its just not shown in the picture, its right by the fridge/window area

If you are a single dude and working or going to school I can't imagine needing much more space than that. It doesn't look too bad. At least you get some life experience out of it lol.

Can you show us? I'm really interested.

It actually doesn't look too bad as long as you can get out enough and not planning on having company. I am not sure how long I would or could do that. Currently I am living in a decently sized apartment, but don't have it filled.with anything. I hate clutter, and if I don't plan on using it a good amount, I just pass on it.

Well damn. That sounds perfect to me, honestly. As long as the neighbors were ass holes I would move in!

Hmmm… The houses start at around $57,000 and to have it delivered is $500-$3000 depending on where you live, then I'd warrant another couple thousand for the sewage/electricity hook-ups (especially if you want to integrate solar panels and net)… Probably at least a $70,000 investment just to start. Be kind of a fun thing to chip into with a couple of friends. Tiny retreats would be very appealing to many, I think. Writer's getaway or therapy. So many options.

I'm paying HKD $4000 which is about US$500 for this place

and before i moved in, i actually re-painted the room (blue), brought in my own wooden table and cut it in half to make a table and shelve on top of the sink. will get some white fabric to make curtain for the window

Ouch. That's a deal breaker right there. I know prices are steep in HK, but damn.
Still, hope you enjoy your new place!

I really wish tiny living spaces like that were more popular here as it'd be affordable enough for me to live on my own instead of always having roommates. Bump size up a tiny bit to give a separate small bathroom and a small kitchen area and I would love it.

I lived in a "bedroom space" that was rough 50 sq ft. for nearly two years. It was an apartment's dining room converted into an extra bedroom by hanging sheets and making walls with cardboard. So while my private space was quite small I did share the usual apartment public spaces with my other roommates.

I would not recommend buying one of these pre-made. It kind of defeats the purpose. I am looking at $15,000 to build mine. And by the way, you have to worry about insurance and damage to it. This does not fall under the same class as a house or an RV unit. You could lose thousands if something goes wrong due to an act of God, vandalism or theft.

You can also rent them. I took one out to the red woods last spring. I highly recommend it because the minimalist and small space life-style is not for everyone.

That seems pricey :(

I'm in the City of Houston and your average apartment is $600 USD/month

Awesome thread btw.
A+

Hm, a guy I know is buying land for a few thousand. Tennessee.

Yeah, that was just for pre-made, I think. I'd rather build because it's more fun. I did imagine insurance would be tricky as it seems not quite house or vacation van. Which one are you going for? And, do you have your own land or did you buy…?

Haha. It did seem pretty steep. Don't know if 10k could match it, but just doing it yourself would be way cheaper no doubt. Be a fun project to work on.

I lived in a pretty small apartment when I was studying in Osaka. Not as small as what you've got - I'm guessing it was 100~110 square foot, and we had a mutual kitchen area so that stuff didn't have to be in our individual rooms.

I ended up really liking it. Even spending a lot of time in it, you get used to a small space very quickly, and one of the best parts is that it makes you consider very hard anything you might think about wanting to own. I broke a lot of collecting / buying habits due to living there, and I think I'm far better off for it.

Thats slightly smaller than the dorms in my college, but to live there for a long time....
I dont think I could handle it.

If its cheap, at least you can save up and buy cool stuff!

Most likely a Cypress variant, as the porches on the others kind of seem pointless and take up valuable space. We have a lot of horse properties out here that people put up on Craig's list for people to use with their RV's so I will most likely use on of those for awhile. Nothing like waking up on a farm.

Stuff like this and what housing is like in Japan should really start making their way to US. I wish something like that was available when I first started living on my own in NYC. Affordable housing for young folks is a must. It's rough over here :(.

That sounds really cool. Would love it if you made a thread once it gets underway. To see the progress as it goes up would be fascinating.
