I'm thinking of moving to Portland.

I go to Portland every day.

It's a nice place to visit. Not a nice place to live. Live in one of the nearby cities if you need to live close to it. Beaverton, Hillsboro, Gresham, Lake Oswego, or perhaps over in Vancouver or Camas. All are better than Portland.
Hahaha fuck that. The burbs are such cookie cutter places that suck to.bike around in. Portland is great to live in and the bike culture is great. I can bike anywhere safely.

Eugene is lovely if you don't need a job.

Hahaha.

Haha.

Ha.

...

;.;

You would be in good company, hur hur hur

Edit: Oh, Eugene.

It's funny because it's true. One time I saw a homeless kid with his cat riding on his shoulders walking around downtown. I do not think my cat would do that so I was impressed.

Portland is worth it for Powell's alone (though it's become tourist trappy and way too expensive in recent years, it's still fun to go and look around. For actual used book shopping Smith's is superior.)

Hi! I've lived in portland most of my life, live in Downtown right now. You'll love it here probably. But if you're planning on living here keep in mind that is is the pacific northwest and can be wet and cloudy a lot. But we've got an awesome public transit system (which I recommend you take advantage of even if you drive, especially if you're going into the city). And a lot of great food carts. And some okay hiking an parks, if you're into that.

You'll never have your shortage of meth heads in Gresham. When I was growing up I remember there was a drug bust in the next door apartment, lots of cops and guys in hazmat suits. It is bad in some areas, but totally fine in the more suburban areas with big houses.

Better to live in San Fransisco or Seattle.
I go up to Seattle every year for PAX and its a pretty awesome city, but MAN I would hate to live there. Too many hills, and some really steep ones.

There is a consistent stream of cat carrying bums that walk by my apartment and through the downtown area. At night they gather downtown in a pile of rags and dogs and create a cigarette-sucking black hole that lasts until 3am when they mysteriously vanish.

They come to shoot up under a porch across the street from my apartment building.

I love Portland, and it's probably the only major city I'd like to live in. I'm spoiled by southern Oregon's good weather though..

I went down to southern Oregon once, it pretty much confirmed my suspicions that I'd never survive in some place like California. I don't see how normal people can stand all that sun >_>

The sun is awesome. I expected more rain this summer since it was pretty muggy and rainy when I got here. This summer was quite like CA in the Bay Area.

I lived about 40 minutes outside of Medford for several years. Though the summers got hotter, we also got more snow in the winter. The valley is pretty mild overall in comparison to other places.

It RARELY rains in the summer in the valley. Just avoid going to the beach.

Pretty much. I live about 15 minutes from Medford and I like that we get a lot of sun but also have a winter as well. It's a lot different from the Bay Area and Southern California in that sense.

Bay Area gets a rain filled Winter every once and a while. While I was growing up there was El Nino and flooding for a couple of years.

This was a very dry summer in Portland. Don't expect it next year.

That's what I figured.

Egh...it was normal I would say. The rain lasted for longer than normal but we are getting an Indian summer right now to make up for it.

Fall is in the air though, I am actually wearing jeans and a sweatshirt out tonight.

Last night was pretty cold compared to the warm nights that preceded it.

I spent a few summers in Lake Oswego. I haven't been back for about 20 years, but going by that video downtown doesn't look to have changed, lol.
There was a critical shortage of attractive people at the time, so I'm willing to believe the claims here. All the best-looking people were either on vacation from California or just moved from there, lol.

The Bay Area has terrible weather.

The only notable thing about camas is the smell. People joke about the "aroma of Tacoma" but mah gawd

lol, that smell is only really noticeable if you live directly next to the mill. Anywhere over a mile away and you can't smell it unless it's REALLY windy outside, which isn't often. It's the same way with Longview and Kelso.

Maybe where you lived.

I've never lived there, praise Jeebus.
But my dad did for most of the '80s. My mom lives in Monterey now. That's definitely not Bay Area, but I still go there a few times a year because of it.
Enlighten me. Where is it not terrible? Bear in mind that my reference for normal is San Diego.

Typical camas propaganda.

Also of note is that the iPhone does not regonize camas as a proper name. This is not true for Portland, Vancouver, or Seattle. -1 points for camas.

Re: your edit, man I never thought I'd see kelso or Longview mentioned on this board hah. What's next, chehalis?

Why live in the burbs though if you are under the age of 45 and/or have a family with 2+ kids? Living in Portland is actually relaxing unlike most larger cities. Everything is so damn close and can be easily biked or by taking public transit.

Shut your filthy mouth. I hate that speed trap zone.

So I take it there's a thing about Camas.

Also I suspect I will never not find Boring, Oregon amusing.

iOS 6 maps doesn't recognize lots of things. -1 points for planet earth.

:p I'm just mentioning areas around Portland. I know people who live in Kelso and drive to Portland for work every day.

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't ever want to live *in* Portland. I prefer the smaller cities that are really close to big cities.

surrounding areas are very scenic, i love the pacific northwest. i have some friends working at intel, they live in portland suburbs. micro-breweries, music scene...definitely better than buffalo. either come downstate or move to portland, buffalo is dreary.

My area is pretty calm other than people goin' a little nutty near the store. (I think there is some bad juju over there.)

I am assuming they have families.

The suburbs are not just smaller "cities" though, they are suburbs. Now if you are talking about places like Newberg, I can understand that, but living in Gresham is like living in the armpit of Portland and loving it.

You live in the NE right? Is the store a Plaid Pantry or a local bodega?

Its pretty hilarious unless you have to live there. Boring is absolutely dead. A friend lives out there and he could barely get internet service up until recently, it was either dial-up or satelite.
