Because there's no one to discuss it with. Plus, it's an experience to see what people think of it, while you're watching it. I just like to do it.

I dont get these kind of threads. If you're posting while watching a movie, then you aren't watching the movie. I mean, its fine if its something you've seen ten times, but if its the first time, come on, people!

It was panned in the 80's, much like 2001 was in the 60's.

Reference quality picture and sound, and a landmark movie to boot.

It's the director's cut on instant watch, and I'm now seeing that it expires tomorrow! I should watch now.

Most sci-fi films age poorly, Blade Runner doesn't.

It's one of my favourites, maybe my favourite film of all time. It's definately my most watched one.
 
I need to watch it.. first time with friends was boring as FUCK. We turned it off about 50% into the movie or something
 
My probably all-time favorite movie. It's amazing looking on blu-ray. Man do I love the visuals on this thing.

Well there's no unnecessary action to keep people with short attention spans staring the screen.

And technology: they don't even show many nifty sci-fi devices. I mean, shouldn't that be the idea behind science fiction in the first place?

it was received pretty appropriately when it came out, of course no one went to see it - and that version wasn't worth seeing anyway, and ford didn't help sell it to anyone "it's about if man can fall in love with his toaster."

2001 has a pretty split response among critics, something that's true today. kael's review sums up my thoughts pretty well. but it got a handful of oscar nominations so "panned" is a pretty strong word.
 
I just watched it few days back (final cut) and it's still one helluva movie.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.

I'm big CyberPunk geek and this movie does it so fine. Really liked the futuristic setting of LA it's a shame that they don't show more of it in the movie. If there is going to be another Blade Runner movie in the future I really hope they keep the dark and gritty world of the first movie.

Oh, and don't forget to read the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick.

director's cut is the best. final cut looks the best. us and international are pretty bad, but might help you appreciate the other ones more.
 
I guess its impact on cinema can't be denied but I have to be honest and say that this movie does not do much for me. I much prefer Scott's Alien to this movie. Blade Runner has taken on a kind of legendary status on the internet and I suppose there is a great deal to be mined from it, thematically, but I found that I didn't much care for the plot or characters.
 
I watched it for the first time a few months ago. The visuals were impressive, as was the atmosphere, but other than that, I didn't like it.
 
If you disliked this movie, you're scum, and you know nothing of filmmaking.

I kid. I'm not going to pretend to be one of those types.

Blade Runner was boring. 2001: A Space Odyssey was boring.
 
Best sci-fi movie of all time, nothing else comes even close.

I watched this once a couple years ago with my girlfriend. I thought it was fuck-awesome, she fell asleep and did not put out :(

I just got the 50 disc blu-ray edition for Christmas, I think I shall put it on before the New Years festivities tonight :D
 
Off topic but I watched Apocalypse Now Redux last night and am thoroughly pissed at how useless and overly lengthy some of the additional scenes are.

And yes, Blade Runner is great.

Never watch Redux. Its such a bloated experience. The plantation scenes kill the entire flow of the movie.
 
Not only my favorite movie but one of my Ultimate Taste Tests.

Don't like it and you get put on the list. I can no longer take your opinions seriously when you make the list.

EDIT: best use of practical effects ever IMO.
 
I saw the final cut a few months ago and thought it was pretty swell.
However, I saw the ending of the original version on youtube :lol

I really disagree the Director's Cut is better. Final Cut is the best version of the film I think, but no, it's not just a remastered version.

Final Cut is the actual director's cut.
