Immortals |OT| From The Fall's Tarsem

I thought the movie was amazing.

The part where Poseidon
jumps down
was the most badass scene of all. I wish they did more stuff with the gods. I wanted to see more awesome gods stuff with that visual style. Maybe Poseidon doing more cool stuff with water. Or I dunno. Hermes delivering a letter. Ares was cool too. Maybe in the sequel.

Totally agree.

I always thought Titans were big monster things. Who knew!?

If there is a sequel (not counting on it given its tame BO performance), they were definitely hinting at more stuff with the gods.

It might seem like tame BO but it's the best Singh has ever done money-wise. I don't think he'll make a sequel though -- he doesn't seem to like the idea, and prefers new ideas with every project.

Just saw this last night and I thought it was utter garbage.
At this point the God of War series tells a better Greek mythology story than Hollywood and I think GOW is pretty bad.

Just seen the trailer.

Wow.

This is some ugly shit.

These openly fake sets and ugly ass costumes ! God, is it stealth product placement for papier maché or something ?

The Fall was a pretty bad movie but it had some interesting and well composed visuals.

costumes and set designs were absolute fucking atrocious.

there's no other way to classify them. they look like the work of High School students.

Uhhh... huh? A signature of Tarsem Singh's work is beautiful costumes and set designs. I don't think we watched the same film.

The Fall a bad film? LOL.

Singh's previous BO performance doesn't really matter. Also don't care if he's involved in a sequel. If the movie does well enough, they will make one, with or without him. I'd like to see it do well enough to warrant a sequel, but IMO, it doesn't look promising and certainly hasn't provided a particularly good argument to counter PG-13 trash like Clash of the Titans.

I don't know why you don't care if he's involved in a sequel... it's his film.

I don't believe I've seen The Fall. But the costumes and set designs in this film were laughable. Dry, empty, uninspired. Outfits looked like someone took some plumbing pipes and shaped them into headgear. I lol'd in the theater every time the decided to show the Gods talking on mt. Olympus.

I actually think all the headgear in this movie was pretty amazing. Most of the other costumes and sets were just okay though.

Just finished watching it. Easily the best 3D movie that I've seen in my life.

Not sure why it's rated so poorly. Maybe if it was directed by an American director with some household actors it would have been "reviewed" better.

really? I guess intelligent minds will differ. to my eyes, they looked like small brass pipes similar to what a plumber would use, bent into corny shapes. idk.

I liked their outfits when they were fighting on Earth...but up on Olympus, I thought they were super-wack.

Not sure why it's rated so poorly.

maybe because you haven't read the reviews? it's one thing to disagree, but another to claim to not know. :-)

I've never said "Holy shit" and seen so many ways a person gets killed in the most brutally awesome ways in one single film before. Goddamn. It almost makes me want Tarsem to direct a GoW movie.

Immortals will top $150 million worldwide. That's pretty damn good for an R-rated movie with little to no stars outside of Mickey Rourke and coming from a director that the mainstream public has never heard of. I doubt they'll do a sequel, but I'm happy with what we got, and I think doing a sequel wouldn't really be warranted. They ended it nicely I thought.

There are some pacing issues, for one. The middle of the movie is almost completely dead until they get the bow and the gods begin to show up. There's little character development. Mickey Rourke is just playing Mickey Rourke as an ancient Greek. The whole subplot with the traitor makes absolutely no sense and has an unsatisfying conclusion. And my biggest complaint was that with the glimpse at the end, nothing in the movie has any sort of consequence.
Hyperion unleashes the titans. The gods are wiped out, but still survive. Theseus fails to stop Hyperion, and only kills him at the end while sacrificing himself and thousands of the soldiers when Mount Tartarus falls. And then they're all alive, including Ares, fighting in a new war in the heavens.

All of that is to say, I loved the movie, and will definitely buy the blu ray. But it's not without some serious issues.

Agreed. I also don't understand why
Zeus killed his son for helping Theseus, but then let Athena give the humans her horses anyway.

Zeus had reason to kill all children involved.. but then he chose to levy all of the punishment on only one of them. It was Zeus choosing to break a little bit/cave on his own rule of uninvolvement.

...

Ok...

Also, why didn't Athena just stop that hyena that took the Bow instead of giving out some horses? Capture bow, danger over. But nope.

The fact that
they couldn't catch a hyena or even make an attempt to do so was funny to me.

Yeah this movie is hilarious, imo. It's filled with stupidity like the one you just wrote about.

While this movie did look ok it's rather silly and I don't understand why people are blindly defending it.

BTW, I spoiler tagged my previous post just in case. If you could edit the quote in yours, I'd appreciate it.

Ares doesn't even die though. He's shown in the battle in the heavens at the end.

Because it's got great visuals and it's entertaining.

The visuals are ok, yes. Entertaining in a bad way. I couldn't stop laughing at all the stupid mistakes they made. In that regard, it was indeed entertaining, but I'm sure that wasn't the intention.

This movie was fucking awesome. Maybe there are some people who do not think that Greek mythology is improved by having Zeus do awesome slow motion chain whip combos, but I am not among them.

Shallow one-note characters? Style over substance? Yeah, okay, I guess so. But when style is awesome enough it serves as substance. That scene where the oracles walk into the salt mine in those freaky red outfits? If Herzog or somebody made a whole boring movie and then just had that part critics would declare it genius and the image would go on the Criterion cover.

Plus, the women were smoking.

And yeah, that last shot.

Saw it this weekend. Dunno why it got such bad reviews. I found it more enjoyable than Clash of the Titans, and I went into the movie thinking it would be utter trash. The fight scenes were very well choreographed, the visuals were awesome, and the story was passable.

Were people going into this expecting some deep character drama or a thought-provoking take on Greek myth?

So what you guys are saying is that..

This movie doesn't have most of the things that make a good movie. Or at least the most important things that make a good movie....... But it's a good movie.

OK.

It was OK, not as good as 300. And in all honesty I do think GOW tells a better greek mythology story as well as more jaw dropping action. GOW Poseidon >>>>>>> Immortals Poseidon

I don't think you understand the definition of a "popcorn movie."

In other words it's good, but a good film doesn't have to make you think.

Oh it made me think . So many dumb things written in there, couldn't stop thinking about them.

You can do good "popcorn movies", instead of how this one was made.

But hey, people like what they like.

Why do you keep posting in here when you admittedly don't like the movie and do so only to antagonize people and make fun of those that do like it? People like to watch movies for different reasons. Enjoyment is not always necessarily based on the quality of the film.

Man, I keep forgetting some people on the internet are overly sensitive. Can't even handle the fact that other people have different opinions.

Guess that's what internet forums are like. For the discussions to be completely one sided. My bad guys.

I actually felt cheated after watching this movie. Everything made it seem like it'd be a great movie. "From the creators of 300" and so on. But it just feels like it was a cheap and fast way to make money.
I made the posts I made because I didn't want other people to waste money just like I did. Then people started giving lazy excuses as to why the bad things in this movie didn't mean it was a bad movie and I felt like that should be discussed.

But oh well.

just saw this, it was pretty good. Not horrible like Clash of the titans.

It's been a while since I said "woah' in a movie concerning fight scenes. Henry Canvill is going to be a great superman.

I think your point fell totally flat when you considered "from the creators of 300" to be a good thing.

Why was Zeus such a dick about not letting the other Gods go and help mankind?

And when he killed Ares I bet he was wishing he had him back when they were fighting the titans.

Im also confused about the actual Godness of the gods.
So they can kill each other with blades right, well could a human who got luckly kill a god by cutting of their head?

Go to one film a weekend. It's a ritual my wife and I have. And I must say out of all the movies this year or maybe ever this is hands down the biggest pile of shit ever. When I went to the Muppets Wednesday night and walked by the Immortal theater I instantly got annoyed just by the thought of how bad that shit was.
