Importing from the US to Japan

thetrin

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
Hey guys. I currently live in the states, but in a few months, I'm moving to Japan for a couple years on business. While I do import quite a bit, there are certain titles I would rather import from the states, due to my less than stellar grasp of the Japanese language, and the fact that most of my consoles are NTSC US.

The question I had was, what is the best venue to use to import american games to Japan? Take into consideration price, title selection, etc etc.

Any helpful comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you're staying in Tokyo, then there are several game shops in Akihabara that carry American games. If I remember correctly, one of them is Game Hollywood.

Otherwise, you can order your US games from Play-Asia or Lik-Sang as well.

I remember Game Hollywood from when I was in Akihabara in August. It seemed like a good place to pick up US imports. It had a surprisingly large selection considering its product base.

Thanks on the advice on Play Asia and Lik Sang. I always import JP stuff from NCSX, so I hadn't taken that close a gander at the other two before.

I requested to be placed in the Kanto Region, so hopefully I'll be close to Tokyo. Whether or not I get the placement is another story, though.

It is kinda funny seeing games that you could buy for like $5 in the US sold for upwards of $60-70...but the same situation would likely exist in the US if such stores were more common.

The same kinds of stores do exist in the US...and yes, it is the same situation, sadly. There's an import store in Boulder, CO called Game Force. They have a great import selection, but the prices are ridiculous.

"a friend who lives in the US" = best solution. if they import from Japan you can usually work out mutual trading systems.

otherwise, eBay is good, as are play-asia and lik-sang

Yeah I usually have a friend send me any game I want, of course I do the same for my friends back in the States. The PSP GTA was 8000 yen at the shops in Den Den Town.
