WHERE ARE ALL THE NEW GAMES?

A lot of those games are sequels/new entries in well established franchises. Fucking creatively bankrupt industry. The indy scene is the only place where you can actually see new ideas.

I get the frustration, but come on dude.

I actually welcome some of these remasters, as I missed them entirely last gen. Same goes many 360 > PS4 players too, that needed to sell/trade their old console to upgrade.

Not all sequels or new entries are bad...some even change things up quite a bit....

And it's not like indies are the only fun games.

Remasters are awesome because everyone can be Square Enix now and gouge loyal customers for every possible cent in leiu of supporting inane craziness like that 'backwards compatibility' thing that used to be a thing (before the newfound viability of 'remasters' pissed all over its corpse).

It works in everyone's favor, sometimes. There are times where I'm hella hyped to see a new perspective or better performance out of an old game. but seriously, compare remasters of notable IPs on these consoles with the number of games on these consoles at the same degree of visibility and IP appeal. They represent a pretty shocking portion of the big 'bombast'-style games on these new platforms right now as far as I can tell, and so many people are literally asking in numerous threads to be taken advantage of by asking to pay a premium for games that would hardly benefit from the treatment in the first place.

This was not a parody thread. I realistically hate all of these fucking remasters; if I was to post that, would I have been juniored?

15+ years on all forms of GAF and you juniored me for this? So lame.

Though I can see why everyone else is laughing, GAF just goes after the thread title quick laughs now.

yoooo just be happy the first response wasn't some lame fucking joke we've all heard a billion times before, or else shit would start to sound like a Brazzers video up in here

I don't mind all the remaster because I pretty much wasn't gaming at all during the PS360 era. But I can definitely see how annoying it has become for some.

Still waiting for that Vagrant Story remaster though.

I don't really believe remasters do NO harm, but the whole thing is a sign of the problem the AAA makers in the industry is facing(rising dev costs leads to none taking any real chances with any form of game design, knowing their game needs to sell "x" copies just to release the next one, remasters being a way to "pad" the margin of error a tad).

To me, I think the *real* story about this is the amount of remasters we're seeing is very likely the reason why none of the new consoles have backwards compatibility in the first place, but the OP didn't really encourage any discussion, so pbbbbbblt. :p

Doesn't have to be uniquely innovative to be a great game. Tons of fun to be had in the non-indie scene.

It's not even a good argument OP. Remasters do no harm at all.

Go take a nap.
There's the thought that "Hey guys, don't worry about pushing for a Fall release of X2 because we have X1 remastered releasing during that time to hold down the fort" could be a thing. I have no idea if there's been examples of this happening, just speculation.

it's not that I hate them. I dislike last gen remasters. can they not go back another gen? there was plenty of great games on the xbox and ps2 i'd love to see remastered

OP can't keep his rather simple story straight.

WHERE ARE ALL THE NEW GAMES?

Having not played any of these upcoming titles I can't properly judge them, but to date and from all that we know of many of those titles, the majority of those games are more of the same, rather than something "new" or vastly improving on prior concepts - to some of us it is utterly boring, no matter what light you shine on it. This is one of the annoying problems I have with the industry today - it is utterly conservative and serving the same content in a shiny new package - all because that has the greater assurance of being well received. The state of things in the last generation of consoles around this same time was far more interesting.

Now generally, indie titles are leading the charge of interesting new content, and that simply comes down to the fact that they can be less risk averse.

is this closed yet? is OP banned?

without remasters i never woulda gotten to appreciate TLOU.

all hail remasters.

really waiting on stick of truth to be "remastered" for new gen.

that being said, i do think they shoulda just remastered the saga instead of gow 3.

There's nothing wrong with remasters and I'm tired of remaster threads getting derailed by the constant group that just needs to hate on them. A remaster does not mean a new game isn't made, it just means that we now get another game to play on our next Gen consoles

Well technically it's a new game to some people, TLOU was brand new to me on ps4, as was GTA and now GoW3, some people just don't have time to have played every game or own every system

Man, I don't understand this hate for remasters. Specially for people that didn't own all consoles or didn't have time, like me, to play all the games at the time.

Like, I'm going to be playing DS2 for the first time, I played GTA5 for the first time on the PS4.

The people that already played them can have that, they played it first, years ago. Now, if they want, they can play them again, but a better version of it.

Only thing what can be harmful is that good selling remasters are the final nail in the coffin for BC for the next consoles. But i think there was already a slim chance for it (even if is not hard to do for PS5/XBTWO).

Btw, sold my PS3 for PS4 but don't have played Dark Souls 2 and are looking forward to the remaster soon. Wouldn't have a chance to play it without this filthy remaster (my laptop would melt trying to play DaS2).

I think that Remasters offer individuals the opportunity to try out games that they may have not played last gen, and can breathe new life into a title which many of people may have enjoyed. Like any product, vote with your wallet, and there is nothing saying that you have to purchase every game that comes out; but try not to deflate the excitement of others who may appreciate things such as Remasters.

At the end of the day, life goes on, and you'll be playing your Bloodborne's and Arkham Knight's and Witcher 3's shortly.

lol oh please. Every gaming gen since the 16 bit gen had many sequels/new entries to existing franchises.

As many others have said, no one is forcing you to buy remasters. I think this GoW 3 remaster is a complete cash grab due to the fact that there was a God of War SERIES remaster on the PS3 for the same price but I'm not "raging" about it. I would simply choose to not buy it.

Think I'm going to skip Bloodborne and get the remaster on the PS5, or maybe they'll remaster it for the same console.

Hm. I guess you could say the mods didn't appreciate your method, man.

(I haven't been here 12 years, but the 300th thread on why remasters are bad would probably have turned out better.)
